Purpose: This study was done to identify factors predicting sick-role behavioral compliance in hemodialysis patients. Methods: The subjects were 133 patients from outpatient dialysis clinics at seven major general hospitals located in D and P cities. Data were collected by self-report questionnaires. For data analysis, SPSS/WIN 14.0 program was utilized including one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: This study showed a positive correlation between sick-role behavioral compliance and social support (r=.29 p<.001), knowledge (r=.31 p<.001), self-efficacy (r=.52, p<.001) and age (r=.21, p=.015). The factors predicting sick-role behavioral compliance were self-efficacy (${\beta}$=.46), knowledge (${\beta}$=.25), and age (${\beta}$=.18). These factors accounted for 36% of the variance of sick-role behavioral compliance in hemodialysis patients. Conclusion: The results indicate that it is necessary to increase self-efficacy and knowledge in order to improve sick-role behavioral compliance in hemodialysis patients.
Objectives: This study examined factors influencing hospital workers' perception of patient safety culture, job boredom and job crafting in reporting of safety compliance. Methods: Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from 245 hospital workers who were full-time staff for six months or more. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and hierarchical multiple regressions with SPSS/WIN version 22.0. Results: The mean score for perception of patient safety culture was 3.16±0.32, for job boredom was 2.52±0.52, for job crafting was 3.35±0.49 and for degree of safety compliance was 2.87±0.3. The hierarchical multiple analysis revealed that hospital work environment (β=.27, p<.001), communication process (β=.27, p<.001) of subarea perception of patient safety culture and cognitive crafting (β=.15, p=.039) of subarea job crafting were predictive of patient safety compliance (R2=.47, p<.001). Conclusions: The findings indicate that perception of patient safety culture and job crafting are important factors to be considered in working to improve hospital workers' safety compliance. Therefore, education and systematic programs to improve perception of patient safety culture and job crafting should be developed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model of health behavior compliance among patients with percutaneous coronary intervention based on self-determination theory. Methods: A total of 227 participants who received follow-up care after percutaneous coronary intervention were recruited. A structured questionnaire was used to assess health providers' autonomous support, basic psychological needs, autonomous motivation, controlled motivation, type D personality, and health behavior compliance. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 program. Results: The final hypothetical model showed a good fitness with data: GFI=.94, RMSEA=.07, CFI=.96, NFI=.92, TLI=.94. The results revealed that autonomous support of health care providers, basic psychological needs, and autonomous motivation, and D-type personality accounted for 51.8% of health behavior compliance. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that enhanced autonomous support of health care providers is essential to promote patients' basic psychological needs and autonomous motivation. This leads to maximized compliance to the health behaviors among patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. We recommend that health care institutions establish various measures to foster the special environments in which health care providers can actively provide and utilize autonomous support for their patients.

Purpose: The study was done to examine hemodialysis unit nurses' knowledge on blood-borne infections, compliance and barriers to control and predictors of compliance. Methods: A descriptive correlational study was conducted with 122 nurses from hemodialysis units. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The data collection period was May to September, 2017. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. Results: The mean score for knowledge on blood-borne infections was $15.41{\pm}2.01$ out of 19 and the compliance with blood-borne infection control was $4.08{\pm}0.49$ out of 5. Barriers to the performance of blood-borne infections control were lack of time and personal protective devices. Knowledge on blood-borne infection did not correlate with compliance on blood-borne infection control (r=.13, p=.171). Predictors of compliance on blood-borne infections control were 1) infection control education on injuries caused by injection needles (${\beta}=.23$, p=.010), 2) infection control room (${\beta}=.24$, p=.006) and 3) blood exposure experience over the past week (${\beta}=-.24$, p=.005) and explained 22.2% of the variance (F=10.81, p<.001). Conclusion: Findings suggest that to improve the performance of blood-borne infectious disease management, customized education for nurses on blood-borne infection and systematic support related to the infection control room should be given priority.

Purpose: This study evaluated real-world compliance with surgical treatment according to Korea's gastric cancer treatment guidelines. Materials and Methods: The 2018 Korean Gastric Cancer Treatment Guidelines were evaluated using the 2019 national survey data for surgically treated gastric cancer based on postoperative pathological results in Korea. In addition, the changes in surgical treatments in 2019 were compared with those in the 2014 national survey data implemented before the publication of the guidelines in 2018. The compliance rate was evaluated according to the algorithm recommended in the 2018 Korean guidelines. Results: The overall compliance rates in 2019 were 83% for gastric resection extent, 87% for lymph node dissection, 100% for surgical approach, and 83% for adjuvant chemotherapy, similar to 2014. Among patients with pathologic stages IB, II, and III disease who underwent total gastrectomy, the incidence of splenectomy was 8.08%, a practice not recommended by the guidelines. The survey findings revealed that 48.66% of the patients who underwent gastrectomy had pathological stage IV disease, which was not recommended by the 2019 guidelines. Compared to that in 2014, the rate of gastrectomy in stage IV patients was 54.53% in 2014. Compliance rates were similar across all regions of Korea, except for gastrectomy in patients with stage IV disease. Conclusions: Real-world compliance with gastric cancer treatment guidelines was relatively high in Korea.
Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the relationship among knowledge, self-efficacy and compliance behavior on breast self examination(BSE) of female college students'. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with a convenient sample of 499 female college student. Surveyed data collected from May to August 2008 were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean score of knowledge and self-efficacy concerning BSE was low, and compliance was high. The levels of knowledge, self-efficacy and compliance were differed significantly by experience of thinking about breast cancer, perceived susceptibility of breast cancer, experience of meeting with breast cancer patient, and educational experience of BSE. Significant correlations were found between knowledge and compliance, knowledge and compliance, knowledge and self-efficacy. Knowledge and self-efficacy were a powerful predictor of compliance. Conclusion: Focus on perceived knowledge, self-efficacy about breast self examination(BSE) of female college students may be beneficial to improve compliance, and should be reflected in the development of effective BSE education program.
The purpose of this study was to examine determine the relations relationship between the child's characteristics (i.e. temperament) and maternal behaviors (parenting and the content of demands) and the child's compliance. Data were gathered from 153 mothers of toddlers in Seoul, via questionnaires. The major principal results of this study were as follows: Neither gender nor age differences was found were observed in toddlers' compliance. Correlation analyses revealed significant relations relationships between both a child's emotionality and the mother's parenting, and a child's compliance. That is, in cases in which the child's emotional reactivity and the mother's authoritarian parenting were high, the child evidenced lower compliance, the child showed whereas the higher the mother's authoritative parenting were was, the higher compliance the child showed displayed. The hierarchical regressions analysis indicated that maternal demands on 'caring' was constituted the most significant variable to predict for the prediction of toddlers' compliance, and child activity level and maternal authoritative parenting behavior were also significant variables.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin), WHR (Waist hip ratio), WTR (Waist thigh ratio) and compliance in elderly diabetes mellitus patients aged 65 years or over. Method: We conducted a survey and measured HbA1c, WHR, WTR in a total of 180 elderly patients with diabetes from 5 May 2014 to 30 May 2014. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient using the SPSS program. Results: There were no significant differences in diabetes-related characteristics for HbA1c, WHR and WTR. However, patients with a family history had low compliance scores (p=.004). Furthermore, patients who visited the hospital regularly had higher compliance scores than patients who visited hospital when they were sick (p<.001). Patients with diabetic complications had low treatment compliance scores (p=.001). In addition, WHR and WTR (r=0.47, p<.001). and WHR and compliance (r=0.15, p=.045) showed positive correlation. Conclusion: For elderly diabetes mellitus patients, diabetes-related characteristics and compliance were highly related, so it is necessary to improve compliance for managing diabetes mellitus.
Background: A well-designed shift schedule has been reported to have a positive effect on improving health problems associated with shift work. This study aimed to identify compliance with the 17 recommendations on work schedule (WSRs) for shift nurses and related factors. Methods: The descriptive study was conducted with 182 nurses who worked in three shifts for more than 1 year at superior general and general hospitals in three regions. Data were collected with selfadministered questionnaire and 13-week work schedule tables, and analyzed with both person- and cycle-based compliance. Results: Person-based compliance was 11.77 among 17 items in total. However, no one completely complied with WSRs of "no work on weekends" and which showed the lowest cycle-based compliance (22.3%). Compliance with some WSRs was related to hospital type, proportion of nurses in school and having standards on work schedule at institutional level. Conclusion: Compliance with WSRs of shift nurses in Korea is still unsatisfactory, and one day off after night shift and work on weekend are quite common. Hospitals should keep the standards on work schedule, monitor compliance with standards, and try to introduce modified shift systems to improve the current problems.
The purpose of this study is to examine to control of glucose level and the occurrence of chronic complications of diabetes by compliance groups with health care regimen The subjects were consisted of 300 out patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from beginning of March through the end of April in 2001, who visited at the endocrinology department at Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital of Catholic University in Seoul. The patient's compliance level with health care regimen was assessed at questionnaire. However, the blood glucose level and the occurrence of chronic complications of diabetes were assessed at medical record review. The data were analyzed by SAS program for chi square test and t-test. The results were as follows. 1. Significant differences were found among the factors such as duration of diabetes, the number of participation of diabetes educational program, job, smoking, self monitoring of blood glucose and the methods of diabetes therapy between high and low compliance groups. High compliance group patients had a diabetes longer than low compliance group patients. High compliance group patients more frequently attended the educational program and checked themselves monitoring blood glucose than low compliance group patients. Also, they did not work recently, smoked less and got more insulin injection therapy compared to low compliance group patients. 2. No significant differences were found among the result of fasting blood glucose. 2-hour postprandial blood glucose, and $HbA_{l}c}$ between high and low compliance groups. 3. The occurrence rate of macrovascular complications of chronic complications of diabetes were lower, however, the occurrence rate of microvascular complications were higher in high compliance group than in low compliance group with health care regimen.
