  • Liquefaction characteristics of the reclaimed marine sand deposits is studied by means of the dynamic response analysis and the cyclic triaxial compression test. 1) From the result of the dynamic response analysis. it was found that the amplification of ground surface maximum acceleration varied with input earthquake motions and soil data, and earthquake coefficients were proposed to be applicable in evaluating liquefaction potential by simplified prediction methods. 2) For upper and soft sand deposits with small N-value, liquefaction strengths estimated by Seed and Idriss's simplified method were lower than those by the cyclic triaxial test while those by Iwasaki & Tatsuoka's or Vs-method were not lower. 3) Simplified methods were inclined to overestimate liquefaction potential in comparison with the dynamic response analysis and the cyclic triaxial compression test Allowable depths of liquefaction(safety factor 1) were estimated to be 7-14m for 0.1 -0.2g of input maximum acceleration.

  • This paper deals with the electric field sensor and automatic measuring system of the time-varying space electric field produced by lightning discharges. The theoretical principle and the design rule of the measuring devices are investigated, and the semisphere-type electric field sensor and the signal process system are fabricated. From the calibration experiments, the frequency bandwidth of the measuring system ranges from 200 [Hz] to 1.56 [MHz] and the sensitivity is 0.96 [m V/V/m] as the amplification gain is 10. In addition, the electric field waveforms produced by lightning discharges are observed by the proposed electric field measuring system from June to August in 1995. The data is sampled with the time interval of 200 [ns] and is automatically recorded by transient signal analyzer(Necolet Pro 30), the resolution of which is 12 bit. And it is registered at personal computer. The electric field waveforms produced by intracloud discharge tend to be bipolar, with two or three narrow and fast rising pulses superimposed on the initial half-cycle.

  • Malva vein clearing virus (MVCV) is a member of the Potyvirus species, and has a negative impact on the aesthetic development of Alcea rosea. It was first reported in Germany in 1957, but its complete genome sequence data are still scarce. In the present work, A. rosea leaves with vein-clearing and mosaic symptoms were sampled and analyzed with small RNA deep sequencing. By denovo assembly the raw sequences of virus-derived small interfering RNAs (vsiRs) and whole genome amplification of malva vein cleaning virus SX strain (MVCV-SX) by specific primers targeting identified contig gaps, the full-length genome sequences (9,645 nucleotides) of MVCV-SX were characterized, constituting of an open reading frame that is long enough to encode 3,096 amino acids. Phylogenetic analysis showed that MVCV-SX was clustered with euphorbia ringspot virus and yam mosaic virus. Further analyses of the vsiR profiles revealed that the most abundant MVCV-vsiRs were between 21 and 22 nucleotides in length and a strong bias was found for "A" and "U" at the 5′-terminal residue. The results of polarity assessment indicated that the amount of sense strand was almost equal to that of the antisense strand in MVCV-vsiRs, and the main hot-spot region in MVCV-SX genome was found at cylindrical inclusion. In conclusion, our findings could provide new insights into the RNA silencing-mediated host defence mechanism in A. rosea infected with MVCV-SX, and offer a basis for the prevention and treatment of this virus disease.

  • Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is associated with formation of Kaposi's sarcoma, multicentric Castleman's disease, and primary effusion lymphoma. Replication and transcription activator (RTA) genes are expressed upon reactivation of KSHV, which displays a biphasic life cycle consisting of latent and lytic replication phases. RTA protein expression results in KSHV genome amplification and successive viral lytic gene expression. Transcriptional activity of viral lytic genes is regulated through epigenetic modifications. In Raji cells latently infected with Epstein-Barr virus, various modifications, such as acetylation and methylation, have been identified at specific lysine residues in histone H4 during viral reactivation, supporting the theory that expression of specific lytic genes is controlled by histone modification processes. Data obtained from chromatin immunoprecipitation and quantitative real-time PCR analyses revealed alterations in the H4K8ac and H4K20me3 levels at lytic gene promoters during reactivation. Our results indicate that H4K20me3 is associated with the maintenance of latency, while H4K8ac contributes to KSHV reactivation in infected TREx BCBL-1 RTA cells.

  • For preliminary structural analysis of superstructures on very large floating structures(VLFS), superstructures are analyzed considering elastic deformations of barge type lower-structures subjected to wave loads. In this case, to consider the effect of wave loads on the superstructure, initial displacements at the support points of superstructures are evaluated as input data for the analysis. However, the evaluation and application of displacement loads are tedious and very time-consuming processes. Therefore, this paper proposes a simplified static analysis method to analyze the structural behaviors of superstructures on very large floating structures subjected to wave loads. In this study, the member forces due to the variation of beam span and the amplitude and period of wave load are analyzed by using an example 4 span -3 story structure and the amplification factors for beam moments are represented by the specific regression equation.

  • We performed a case-control study to investigate whether SNPs of CHIP might affect the development of IA in Chinese Han nationality. We believe we are the first to have screened IA patients for mutations in the CHIP gene to determine the association with these variants. The study group comprised 224 Chinese Han nationality patients with at least one intracranial aneurysm and 238 unrelated healthy Han nationality controls. Genomic DNA was isolated from blood leukocytes. The entire coding regions of CHIP were genotyped by PCR amplification and DNA sequencing. Differences in genotype and allele frequencies between patients and controls were tested by the chi-square method. Genotype and allele frequencies of the SNP rs116166850 was demonstrated to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. No significant difference in genotype or allele frequencies between case and control groups was detected at the SNP. Our data do not support the hypothesis of a major role for the CHIP gene in IA development in the Chinese Han population.

  • In this paper, we suggested a sensing method of PoRAM with the multilevel cell When a specific voltage is applied between top and bottom electrodes of PoRAM unit cell, we can distinguish cell states by changing resistance values of the cell. Especially, we can use the PoRAM as the multilevel cell due to have four stable resistance values per cell. Therefore, we proposed an address decoding method, sense amplifier and control signal for sensing of a multilevel cell. The sense amplifier is designed based on a current comparator that compared a cell current the cell with a reference current, and have a low input impedance for a amplification of the current. The proposed circuit was designed in a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, we verified to sense each data "00", "01", "10", "10" by four states of a cell current.

  • This study sought to explain the process of conflict between early childhood teacher and parent (T-P conflict) and was guided by the following three questions: (a) how does a T-P conflict begin? (b) how does a T-P conflict develop over time? and (c) how does a T-P conflict end? One hundred cases were provided by private kindergarten teachers with experiences of T-P conflict. A qualitative grounded theory design was used for analysis of the data. Open coding and axial coding resulted in six categories: (a) "causes of conflict" (b) "conditional context of conflict" (c) "state of conflict" (d) "amplification of conflict" (e) "problem solving strategies of conflict", and (f) "cease of conflict". The stage of selective coding drew out three core categories: (a) "prelude with tuneless instruments" (b) "duet for discords and concords, and (c) "splendid finale vs. unplanned intermission". Additionally the study raised the doubts about current early childhood education policies based on neo-liberalism and their impacts on relationships between teachers and parents.

  • With the widespread use of the obstetrical ultrasound, identification of a fetal suprarenal mass becomes more common. Most of these masses prove to be congenital neuroblastomas (CNB) postnatally. However, the diagnosis is often confused with other benign lesions and the post-natal management remains controversial. The medical records of 13 patients that underwent primary surgical excision for an antenatally detected adrenal CNB, between January 1995 and April 2009, were reviewed retrospectively. The clinical, radiological, surgical, and pathological data on the suprarenal mass were collected. Staging evaluation was performed after histological confirmation of the CNB. Most of the CNBs were stage I (N=11), with 1 stage IV and 1 stage IV-S. Four patients (3 stage I and 1 stage IV-S) had N-myc gene amplification. The stage I patients were cured by surgery alone, and stage IV patients underwent 9 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy and currently have no evidence of disease after 39 months of follow-up. The patient with stage IV-S is currently receiving chemotherapy. There were no post-operative complications. For early diagnosis and treatment, surgical excision should be considered as the primary therapy for an adrenal CNB detected before birth. The surgery can be safely performed during the neonatal period and provides a cure in most cases. Surgical diagnosis and treatment of CNB is recommended in neonatal period.

  • Hymenolepis nana and Hymenolepis diminuta are globally widespread zoonotic cestodes. Rodents are the main reservoir host of these cestodes. Brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) are the best known and most common rats, and usually live wherever humans live, especially in less than desirable hygiene conditions. Due to the little information of the 2 hymenolepidid species in brown rats in China, the aim of this study was to understand the prevalence and genetic characterization of H. nana and H. diminuta in brown rats in Heilongjiang Province, China. Total 114 fecal samples were collected from brown rats in Heilongjiang Province. All the samples were subjected to morphological examinations by microscopy and genetic analysis by PCR amplification of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COX1) gene and the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) region of the nuclear ribosomal RNA gene. In total, 6.1% (7/114) and 14.9% (17/114) of samples were positive for H. nana and H. diminuta, respectively. Among them, 7 and 3 H. nana isolates were successfully amplified and sequenced at the COX1 and ITS2 loci, respectively. No nucleotide variations were found among H. nana isolates at either of the 2 loci. Seventeen H. diminuta isolates produced 2 different COX1 sequences while 7 ITS2 sequences obtained were identical to each other. The present results of H. nana and H. diminuta infections in brown rats implied the risk of zoonotic transmission of hymenolepiasis in China. These molecular data will be helpful to deeply study intra-specific variations within Hymenolepis cestodes in the future.
