This study started to deduce a permeability relationship that can consider the geometric features of various porous media under different flow regimes. With reference to the previous works of Kozeny and Carman, the conventional Darcy-Weisbach relation (Darcy's friction flow equation) was reviewed and expanded for porous flow analysis. Based on the capillary model, this relation was transformed to the friction equivalent permeability (FEP) definition. The validity of the FEP definition was confirmed by means of comparison with the Kozeny-Carman equation. Hereby, it was shown that the FEP definition is the generalized form of the Kozeny-Carman equation, which is confined to laminar flow through a circular capillary. In conclusion, the FEP definition as a new permeability estimation method was successfully developed by expanding the Darcy-Weisbach relation for porous flow analyses.

The discharges of groundwater flow were estimated using Darcy's method along the coastal zone in the Masan Bay. The estimates using the information, i.e., groundwater level, location of the observation well, hydraulic conductivity, the thickness of the aquifer, and coastline length, were 1.65% of the precipitation of the watershed. The estimated groundwater discharges through fractured rock aquifer and the aquifer with sedimentary material were $0.7\times10^4$$m^2/year$and $1.0\times10^7$$m^3/year$ respectively. Whereas, the discharge estimated by KORDI (2003) using isotopes method is about 20 times larger than the estimates from this study because of the influence of the re-circulated seawater through the coastal zone aquifer. In order to quantify this effect in detail, the groundwater levels and salinity changes in the observation wells located in the coastal zone should be continuously monitored and analyzed.
In analysis of pipelines or pipe network we calculated the friction loss using Hazen-Williams or Manning formula approximately, or found one by friction coefficient from Moody diagram graphically. The friction coefficient is determined as a function of relative roughness and Reynolds number. But the calculated friction coefficient by Hazen-Williams or Manning formula considered roughness of pipe or velocity of flow. The friction coefficient in Darcy-Weisbach equation was obtained from the Moody diagram. This method is manual and is not exact from reading. This paper is presented numerical solution of Colebrook-White formula including variables of relative roughness and Reynolds number. The suggested subroutine program by an efficient linear iteration scheme can be applied to any pipe network system.
A theoretical analysis was conducted of convective instability driven by buoyancy forces under transient temperature fields in an annular porous medium bounded by coaxial vertical cylinders. Darcy's law and Boussinesq approximation are used to explain the characteristics of fluid motion and linear stability theory is employed to predict the onset of buoyancy-driven motion. The linear stability equations are derived in a global domain, and then cast into in a self-similar domain. Using a spectral expansion method, the stability equations are reformed as a system of ordinary differential equations and solved analytically and numerically. The critical Darcy-Rayleigh number is founded as a function of the radius ratio. Also, the onset time and corresponding wavelength are obtained for the various cases. The critical time becomes smaller with increasing the Darcy-Rayleigh number and follows the asymptotic relation derived in the infinite horizontal porous layer.
The basic purpose of the current study is to compute the numerical analysis of heat source/sink for Darcy-Forchheimer three dimensional nanofluid flow with gyrotactic microorganism by rotatable disk via porous media under the slip conditions. Due to nanoparticles, random and thermophoretic motion phenomenon occurs. The governing mathematical model is handled numerically by shooting method. Additionally, the characteristics of velocities, mass, heat, motile microorganisms and associated parameters are thoroughly analyzed via plots and tables. Different physical parameters like Forchheimer number, slip parameters like velocity, porosity parameter, Prandtl number, Brownian number, thermophoresis parameter, heat sink/source parameter, bioconvected Rayleigh number, buoyancy parameteron dimensionless velocities, temperature. Approximate values of Sherwood microorganism are analyzed.

In this paper, the dynamic characteristic analysis of carriage structure supported by air bearings were performed. Toward this end, the characteristics of air bearing were numerically analyzed to estimate the stiffness of the air bearing and the clearance between air bearing and guide surface. The modal analysis of the carriage structure was performed by using finite element method, and the experimental modal analysis was also performed to validate the finite element model, where rigid body modes were compared to validate the stiffness of the air bearings. From the results, the air spring stiffness can be estimated within the range of acceptable accuracy under any pressure and clearance condition.
The governing equation of flow in porous media is developed on the bases of the continuity equation of fluid for transient flow through a saturated-unsaturated zone, and substitution of Darcy's law. The numerical solutions are obtained by finite element method based on the Galerkin principles weighted residuals. The analysis are carried out by using the unsteady storm data observed and rainfall intensities which are obtained by using the rainfall excess model in considering of the initial losses. The functional relationships between the hydraulic conductivity, capillary pressure head and volumetric water content are applied to the flow of water through unsaturated soil varied with changes of water content.
Within the optimization field, addressing the intricate posed by fluidic pressure loads on functionally graded structures with frequency-related designs is a kind of complex design challenges. This paper thus introduces an innovative density-based topology optimization strategy for frequency-constraint functionally graded structures incorporating Darcy's law and a drainage term. It ensures consistent treatment of design-dependent fluidic pressure loads to frequency-related structures that dynamically adjust their direction and location throughout the design evolution. The porosity of each finite element, coupled with its drainage term, is intricately linked to its density variable through a Heaviside function, ensuring a seamless transition between solid and void phases. A design-specific pressure field is established by employing Darcy's law, and the associated partial differential equation is solved using finite element analysis. Subsequently, this pressure field is utilized to ascertain consistent nodal loads, enabling an efficient evaluation of load sensitivities through the adjoint-variable method. Moreover, this novel approach incorporates load-dependent structures, frequency constraints, functionally graded material models, and polygonal meshes, expanding its applicability and flexibility to a broader range of engineering scenarios. The proposed methodology's effectiveness and robustness are demonstrated through numerical examples, including fluidic pressure-loaded frequency-constraint structures undergoing small deformations, where compliance is minimized for structures optimized within specified resource constraints.
This study was carried to investigate the effects of steaming and four different drying methods on the longitudinal liquid permeability of Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis Sieb.et Zucc.) board. Four drying methods were air drying, conventional kiln drying, microwave-vacuum drying and high temperature drying. Darcy equation was used for calculating the specific permeability of the small sapwood specimens taken from the treated boards while capillary rising method was used for the heartwood specimens. The sapwood specimens were extracted with water and benzene-alcohol solution to examine the mechanism of liquid flow in treated wood. No significant correlation was found between specific permeability and the number of resin canals of the sapwood specimens. Extraction decreased the differences of specific permeabilities of the sapwood specimens between the five treatment methods. The effects of extraction on the longitudinal permeability are different between five treatments. The fluid path in heartwood was observed by dynamic observation method.

In this paper, we propose a fast GPU-based method for representing pore flow, absorption, emission, and diffusion effects represented by cloth-liquid interactions using smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), a particle-based fluid solver: 1) a unified framework for GPU-based representation of various physical effects represented by cloth-liquid interactions; 2) a method for efficiently calculating the saturation of a node based on SPH and transferring it to the surrounding porous particles; 3) a method for improving the stability based on Darcy's law to reliably calculate the direction of fluid absorption and release; 4) a method for controlling the amount of fluid absorbed by the porous particles according to the direction of flow; and finally, 5) a method for releasing the SPH particles without exceeding their maximum mass. The main advantage of the proposed method is that all computations are computed and run on the GPU, allowing us to quickly model porous materials, porous flows, absorption, reflection, diffusion, etc. represented by the interaction of cloth and fluid.
