  • Background: The working conditions of bus drivers are difficult; they lead to occupational diseases and require careful study, particularly in Ukraine. The objective of the article is the description of occupational health risks of passenger bus drivers that lead to deteriorating health. Methods: The risk assessment was performed using a modified Risk Score method, which allowed determining the generalized level of danger to the driver's health. The hygienic hazards level was assessed as based on Stevenson's law, which was generalized later. Results: Based on the modification of the Risk Score method, it was possible to depart from expert assessments method of the risk level and calculate the general indicator based on the degree of dependence of the impact on the human body on its intensity, proposed by V. Minko. This allows objective determining of the impact of hygiene hazards on the health of the driver and to predict the occurrence of occupational diseases associated with the cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, and partial or complete disability due to the accumulation of emotional fatigue. The hazard assessment was carried out for three brands of passenger buses common in Ukraine, in which the driver is exposed to the dangers of fever, vibration, noise, harmful impurities in the bus cabin, and emotional load. Conclusion: The health of drivers in the cabins of passenger buses is most affected by hygiene hazards: fever, vibration, and emotional stress. The generalized level of risk is calculated by the modified method of Risk Score is 0.83; -0.99, -0.92 respectively.

  • Due to climate change, there is an increasing risk of complex (hybrid) disasters, comprising rising sea-levels, typhoons, and torrential rains. This study focuses on Marine City, Busan, a new residential city built on a former landfill site in Suyeong Bay, which recently suffered massive flood damage following a combination of typhoons, storm surges, and wave overtopping and run-up. Preparations for similar complex disasters in future will depend on risk impact assessment and prioritization to establish appropriate countermeasures. A framework was first developed for this study, followed by the collection of data on flood prediction and socioeconomic risk factors. Five socioeconomic risk factors were identified: (1) population density, (2) basement accommodation, (3) building density and design, (4) design of sidewalks, and (5) design of roads. For each factor, absolute criteria were determined with which to assess their level of risk, while expert surveys were consulted to weight each factor. The results were classified into four levels and the risk level was calculated according to the sea-level rise predictions for the year 2100 and a 100-year return period for storm surge and rainfall: Attention 43 %, Caution 24 %, Alert 21 %, and Danger 11 %. Finally, each level, indicated by a different color, was depicted on a complex disaster risk map.

  • Resuspended dust from paved roads in Seoul and Incheon metropolitan areas is regarded as one of the major $PM_{10}$ sources in these areas, according to the recent emission estimates using the emission factors compiled in AP-42. It is well known that the AP-42 model for estimating $PM_{10}$ emissions from paved roads requires information on silt loadings of particular paved roads. The conventional AP-42 method (vacuum swept method) for road silt sampling, however, is expensive, time consuming, and dangerous. These drawbacks led us to develop a Mobile Dust Monitoring System (MDMS) capable of doing real time measurements of silt loading of paved roads, thereby we could get higher resolution silt loading data both in terms of time and space without too much human efforts and danger. In this study, for the real-time measurement of silt loading of paved roads, the principle used in the TRAKER method of U.S. Desert Research Institute was employed and the entire sampling systems including data acquisition system were designed for theses purpose and mounted on a SUV. The correlation between the silt loading measured by vacuum swept method and the speed corrected ${\Delta}Dust$ was derived for the vehicle-based silt loading measurements, and then the variations of silt loading on paved roads were surveyed using the MDMS in test routes of Seoul and Incheon. From the results of real-time measurements, temporal and spatial variations of silt loading data together with the existence of hot spots were observed for paved roads in Seoul and Incheon. The result of this study will be employed to estimate fugitive dust emissions from paved roads.

  • Large and small marine accidents which are related to vessel's navigation are happening continuously and these maritime accidents have caused loss of lives and properties, and serious maritime environmental pollution damage. It is also true that maritime pollution damage is increasing due to these accidents, probability of growth of seaborne volume and complicated maritime traffic environment. Korea, recently, is developing an evaluation index which can assess sea risk through the evaluation of maritime traffic environment and provide danger and general information with relation to maritime traffic environment on target sea area to evaluate maritime traffic safety. In this paper, we intend to confirm the validity of maritime traffic safety on the basis of vessel navigator's risk consciousness and various sailing conditions by using the ship handling simulator. To confirm the validity of sailing vessel's maritime traffic safety, we use analysis of variance. By using analysis of variance, we analyze vessel navigator's characteristics, distance, speed and encounter type between vessels. Through multiple comparison of each factor's risk difference, we can confirm the change of numerical value of risk difference in statistical aspect.

  • The change in fuel moisture in accordance with the number of days after rainfall is an important factor in predicting forest fire dangers and supporting forest fire rangers. Therefore, in order to clear up these forest fire occurrence conditions, forest fire danger levels for surface fuel 0.6 cm or lower, 0.6~3.0 cm, 3.0~6.0 cm, and 6.0 cm or above by fallen leaves layer, humus layer, soil layer, and diameter after rainfall of 5.0 mm and higher in accordance with tree density in 2008, 2009 Spring/Autumn Young Dong region have been analyzed. Research showed an approximate 17 % fuel moisture which is a dangerous forest fire occurrence level after 5 days from rainfall in medium-density areas and 3 days after rainfall in loose-density areas of Spring time in the fallen leaves layer. On the other hand, the humus layer showed a 40 % or higher fuel humidity even after 6 days from rainfall regardless of the season, while the upper and lower parts of the soil layer had a little change. In loose-density areas with 0.6 cm or less surface fuel per diameter in Spring time, the fuel humidity displayed a dangerous level in fire forest occurrence after 3 days, and 4days in medium-density areas, and for loose-density areas with 0.6~3.0 cm surface fuel per diameter in Autumn time it showed a dangerous level in forest fire occurrence after 3 days, and for medium-density areas, 5 days. In the case of 3.0~6.0 cm of fuel moisture per diameter in both Spring and Autumn times, even after 6 days, low and medium-density areas showed that they maintain fuel moisture and therefore the dangers of forest fires were very low, and in the case of 6.0 cm or higher, it showed 25 % or higher fuel moisture even after 6 days from rainfall regardless of the season.

  • Predictive food microbiology(PFM) is an emerging area of food microbiology since the later 1980’s. It does apply mathematical models to predict the responses of microorganism to specified environmental variables. Although, at present, PFM models do not completely developed, models can provide very useful information for microbiological responses in HACCP(Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) system and Risk Assessment. This study illustrates the possible use of PFM models(PMP: Pathogen Modeling Program win5.1) with milk in several elements in the HACCP system, such as conduction of hazard analysis and determination of CCP(Critical Control Points) and CL(Critical Limits). The factors likely to affect the growth of the pathogens in milk involved storage fixed factors were pH 6.7, Aw 0.993 and NaCl 1.3%. PMPwin5.1 calculated generation time, lag phase duration, time to level of infective dose for pathogens across a range of storage (Critical Control Points) and CL(Critical Limits). The factors likely to affect the growth of the pathogens in milk involved storage temperature, pH, Aw and NaCl content. • Thanks to the developments of IT technologies, such critical infrastructures as fundamental structures of energies, material circulations, monetary circulations, and living necessaries are intertwined as well as mutually dependent. In this respect, the fact that national infrastructures are closely related to IT infrastructures implies not only expected benefits to provide diverse information-based services, but also anticipated costs to bring about new dangers. However, in spite of these threats, traditional researchers have not put enough interests in these indirect danger, which yield the damages in broad areas through paralyzing risk management systems, although they have investigated such direct threats as nuclear accidents, conflagrations, traffic troubles, and gasoline accidents. Considering that the tendency to depend on electricity, so-called electrification, which is caused by automation and informationalization, is intensified in all parts of society, the breakout problem as a factor to inhibit securities in information-oriented society is significant. Thus, the problems of large-scale power blackout should be treated as national crises. Also, preparation systems for large-scale power blackout have to be provided quickly. In this paper, with analyzing various cases of large-scale power blackout and investigation the causes of them, researches on the blackout management systems of Korea are to be present, on the basis of national crisis management states which are comprised of protection (mitigating and preparing), responding, and recovering(rewarding).

  • Aggressive driving is defined as 'driving behavior which intentionally incurs danger and distress to other drivers and passengers'. It increases the possibility of traffic accidents. Also, it threatens lives of drivers ana passengers and brings social and economic harm. According to previous studies. these aggressive behaviors are affected by not only the personality of drivers but also psychosocial factors, such as attitude, aggressive intention, time pressure, and traffic situations, However, most studies on aggressive behaviors conducted with field studies and surveys suggest correlation, not causal relationship. Therefore, in the current study tue authors measured individual factors-the driver's intention for aggressive driving and manipulated time pressure-to examine the interaction effects. As a result. the difference between conditions was significant depending on the level of aggressive intention and time pressure. These differences were also significant depending on the types of aggressive driving behaviors. In particular, the interaction effect of the driver's intention and time pressure on improper passing (cutting drivers off when passing) was significant. Finally the limitations of the current study and implications or using a car simulator are discussed.

  • Using the AUDIT-K (Korean versions of alcohol use disorders identification test), it was able to select a large number of potential danger drinkers who routinely live. There were no statistically significant differences in age, religion, marital status, occupation, family history of alcohol drinking, age at onset of alcohol use, smoking, and BMI (body mass index). However, only education and drinking periods were statistically significant. These results are consistent with the previous study, which suggests that alcohol consumption is higher among men who are educated. The level of education also suggests that there is a need to look at the differences depending on what you learned and how. Alcohol consumption by education also shows different results. Also, drinking at a young age will lead to a longer drinking period, which is consistent with previous studies on the age at onset of drinking. In this study, drinking period was the most important factor of alcohol use disorder and it is considered that measures and education of national government system which can delay drinking age as much as possible is needed as a method to shorten drinking period.

  • The incidence of gallbladder polyps are increasing due to the extended use of ultrasonography. Although there are various reports on the risk of gallbladder polyps, there are few studies of the relationships among the presence of metabolic syndrome including serum biochemistry, lifestyle and the development of gallbladder polyps. The aim of this study was to determine association of the presence of metabolic syndrome, including serum biochemistry, with the development of gallbladder polyps in the Korean population. Among the health examination examinees, 596 people, who underwent abdominal ultrasonography from January, 2013 to December 2013, were included in this study. Physical measurements also taken, such as height, weight, blood pressure, waist measurement, and BMI. The general characteristics including age, sex, smoking, and drinking as the related factors were checked. At the same time, various blood tests were performed and the fasting blood sugar was analyzed through blood-gathering to determine the presence of metabolic syndrome. Regarding the factors associated with gallbladder polyps, the results showed that being male, smoking, non-drinking were significantly high. In addition, testing positive for HBsAg and an increasing BMI was apparently higher the group with metabolic syndrome than the non-metabolic syndrome group. The highest predictive factors for gallbladder polyps was being male (1.8 times), followed by metabolic syndrome (2.3 times) and testing positive for HBsAg (2.6 times).
