  • This study was conducted to determine the relationship of larval density of tobacco cutworm, Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) to damage in greenhouse sweet pepper. Laboratory experiments, cage experiments by artificial release and field investigation were carried out in 2008. The leaf consumption rate increased greatly with larval development. The damaged leaves had several round or oval shape holes on the surface or lost certain parts of them, and the fruit damaged had a conspicuous hole on the surface or scar marks around the calyx. In the field investigation, fruit damage was highly correlated with larval densities and reached 3.5% damage at maximum. Cage experiments showed that numbers of non-marketable fruit increased as increasing larval densities released. The larval density at two weeks before harvest had a high relationship with the percentage of damaged-fruit at harvest. Corresponding larval density caused 1, 3, 5% of damaged-fruit was 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 larvae per plant, respectively.

  • Objectives : The Jap Byoung(雜病) of the Young Chu(靈樞), one of the classical book of oriental medicine contains symptoms and remedies for various diseases that can be seen on human body. But it is too difficult to understand the Jap Byoung(雜病), because it is written in old chinese and there are many printer's error and omissions or adds in this book. As a consequence of above reason, the writer of this article has researched to find out the exact meaning of that. Methods : So in this part we study a woodblock-printed book of successive generation and view of annotators, and add adding notes, adjustment, translation to exact comprehension of the original text. Results & conclusions : The principle ideas of the thesis can be summarized as follows: The Jap Byoung(雜病) is consist of five part. In chapter 1, we present symptoms occurred by the upstream current of Qi(氣逆) and their treatments by taking meridian flowing the body parts on which the symptoms occur. In chapter 2, we deal with symptoms such as ikgun(?乾), a pain of the knee(膝中痛), huby(喉痺), epistaxis(?血), lumbago(腰痛), anger(怒), a pain of the jaw(痛), a pain of the nape(項痛) and their remedies. In chapter 3, since abdominal inflation occurs when the Qi(氣) of the five viscera(五臟) is damaged or go upstream, I discussed that the treatment should be given by taking the meridian accordingly. In chapter 4, we deal with the remedy for heartache, and different meridians to be taken by symptom, and parts on which needle to be used, and detailed remedies. In chapter 5, we present other diseases, detailed body parts to be cured and remedies by referring symptoms for a pain of the jaw(痛), the upstream current of Qi(氣逆), hiccup, etc. Especially, we introduce a part of Doinbup(導引法) for wegurl(?厥) and remedies for hiccup such as inducing sneeze by stimulating nostrils, holding one's breath, etc.

  • Current industrial flow is directed toward reducing the usage of raw materials by reusing parts, which is referred to as a circular economy (CE). Repair is one of the most value-added approaches in CE, which can be efficiently accomplished via additive manufacturing. The repair technology of metallic parts via the directed energy deposition process, which includes the selective removal and redeposition of damaged regions of metallic parts. Residual stress characteristics depend on the shape of the part and the shape of the redeposition region. The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of the radius and corner position of the substrate on the residual stresses for repair by using finite element analysis (FEA). The residual stress distribution of the 45° angle groove at the edge of the circular shape models on the outer and inner radii was analytically investigated. The analysis was accomplished using SYSWELD software by applying a moving heat source with defined material properties and cooling conditions integrated into the FEA model. The results showed a similar pattern of concentrated stress distribution for all models except the 40-mm and 60-mm radii, for which the maximum stress locations were different. The maximum residual stresses are high but lower than the yield strength, suggesting the absence of cracks and fractures due to residual stresses.

  • The domestic remanufacturing industry is concentrated in auto parts, so it is necessary to expand into various industries. In the domestic aluminum industry, the extrusion process accounts for more than 40% of the total, but the old and management of the extrusion equipment is not done properly. In particular, the extruder has a structure in which equipment is not replaced until major parts are damaged or worn, so there are problems such as lower process precision, productivity and production efficiency compared to new equipment, and high maintenance costs. In this study, the old extruder was remanufactured for major high-risk parts through Failure Mode and Effect Analysis(FMEA), and the process level and performance of the extruder were evaluated before and after remanufacturing. Compared to the existing extruder, the standard deviation of the remanufacture extruder was reduced by 93.5%, 57.9%, and 70.0%, respectively, in major process control items such as container temperature, billet temperature, and ram speed, keeping performance constant. In addition, it was possible to produce products with complex shapes that could not be produced before due to problems such as dimensional deviation within tolerances. In this study, remanufacturing guidelines were presented by analyzing the effect of failure modes of the old extruder, and the performance improvement of the extruder was confirmed.

  • Damage detection algorithms based on a one-dimensional beam model can detect damage within a beam span caused by flexure only but cannot detect damage at a joint with prescribed boundary conditions or at the middle part of a beam section where the neutral axis is located. Considering the damage at a welded joint of beam elements in steel structures and modeling the damage with twodimensional plane elements, this study presents a new approach to detecting damage in the depth direction of the joint and beam section. Three damage scenarios at the upper, middle, and lower parts of a welded joint of a rectangular symmetric section are investigated. The damage is detected by evaluating the difference in the receptance magnitude between the undamaged and damaged states. This study also investigates the effect of measurement locations and noise on the capability of the method in detecting damage. The numerical results show the validity of the proposed method in detecting damage at the beam's welded joint.

  • Reliable response measurements are extremely important for proper bridge health monitoring but incomplete and unreliable data may be acquired due to sensor problems and environmental effects. In the case of a sensor malfunction, parts of the measured data can be missing so that the structural health condition cannot be monitored reliably. This means that the dynamic characteristics of natural frequencies can change as if the structure is damaged due to environmental effects, such as temperature variations. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes a systematic procedure of data analysis to recover missing data and eliminate the environmental effects from the measured data. It also proposes a health index calculated statistically using revised data to evaluate the health condition of a bridge. The proposed method was examined using numerically simulated data with a truss structure and then applied to a set of field data measured from a cable-stayed bridge.

  • The concept of jigs and fixtures makes it possible to build fixtures that can be dismantled at project completion. Since this concept is modular, it is not limited to any particular unit shapes or sizes. Various standards assure that each component assemble rapidly, to get precision and accuracy. Best suited for prototype and low volume production, as well as, start-up or zero-runs, it can also substitute for damaged dedicated fixtures to minimize down-time. It need to do DB for each part by Pro/Engineer and to assemble before manufacturing. In the future will assemble each of clamping and position parts by automation.

  • The shape of combustion nozzles varies from large diameter to small diameter ones. In the case of small nozzle, nozzle exit can be easily winkled or damaged in machining process. Femtosecond laser is a micro machining technology that is able to drill a small nozzle without damaging the nozzle exit. In this experiment, a small nozzle of combustion was fabricated by using a femtosecond laser. The fabricated nozzle of combustion provided a very small nozzle diameter with clean nozzle exit without wrinkling or collateral damage.

  • Oogenesis process of ovary produces a lot of undifferentiated cells. Especially, the radiation exposure of early immature cells in the process of growth to oocyte causes serious disabilities. This study examined the radiation damage mechanism of undifferentiated cells and organelles in oogenesis process, and the radioprotection after injection of alliin. The ultrastructure after 7Gy X-ray irradiation on the white rat was observed in the experiment. The results is as follows. It was observed that the nucleus membrane of an oogonium was damaged and vacuolated in the several parts after 15 days of irradiation. The damage of mitochondria membrane and flow in cytoplasm after 20 and 30 days was found in the oogonium. After 40 days observation, peroxidation of fat droplets was found and organelles were tangled each other in ovary tissue. The partial damage of nuclear membrane in oogonium past 15 days after injection of alliin was found, but decreased remarkably. Mitochondria, Golgi body, and rough endoplasmic reticulum were also clearly observed, therefore, radioprotection effects in alliin was confirmed partially.

  • The virtual forces of the original local flexibility method are restricted to inducing stress on the local parts of a structure. To circumvent this restriction, we developed a pseudo local flexibility (PLFM) method that can successfully detect damage to hyperstatic beam structures using fewer modes. For this study, we further developed the PLFM so that it could detect damage in plate structures. We also devised the theoretical background for the PLFM with non-local virtual forces for plate structures, and both the lateral and rotary degree of freedom (DOF) measurements were considered separately. This study investigates the effects of the number of modes, the actual location that sustained damage, multiple damage locations, and noise in modal parameters for the damage detection results obtained from damaged numerical plates. The results revealed that the PLFM can be used for damage detection, localization, and quantification for plate structures, regardless of the use of the lateral DOF and/or rotary DOF.
