  • balance and to estimate daily energy requirement in 43 Korean female college students maintaining their usual diet and activity level. Energy intake and expenditure were measured in two separate periods about one month apart, each period lasting for 3 days. All the subjects participated in both periods. Energy intake was assessed by two methods ; weighed diet record and duplicate portion analysis of diet minus fecal and urinary excretion. Mean daily energy intake level calculated from diet records was 28.5 kcal/kgB.W(1, 476 kcal/day), and similar to the level of 27.8 kcal/kgB.W(1, 438 kcal/days) obtained from the chemical analysis of duplicate portions. Mean daily energy expenditure, calculated from activity records of each subject, was 34.6 kcal/kgB.W, or 1.39 times BMR, which corresponds to light activity level. Mean daily energy balance of subjects was -5.9 kcal/kgB.W. Mean daily requirement of energy, calculated from the activity records of the subjects, was 34.6 kcal/kgB.W, similar to the level of the Korean RDA for light activity level. The results of this study indicate that 1) the activity level of the study subjects corresponds to the sedentary level ; 2) present Korean RDA for energy for light activity is adequate for the subjects ; and 3) the subjects should increase their energy intake since they are largely in negative energy balance.

  • This study evaluated the types of daily routines that occurred in child care centers based on four general categorizations: time spent on indoor free choice activities, outdoor activities, group activities and special activities. In addition, resulting child care teacher behaviors were examined based on daily routine types. A total 23 classes' activity times and teacher behaviors were observed. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, hierarchical cluster, and Mann-Whitney U. Results indicated that there were 2 principle daily routine, 'indoor/outdoor activity time oriented' and 'group activity time oriented'. Analysis showed that teachers who belonged to the 'indoor/outdoor activity time oriented' type showed more positive affect, positive guidance, neural guidance, and less non-involved behavior. Results suggest the importance of time spent on free choice activities in the context of daily routine for quality childcare.

  • Objectives : In order to study the effect of taping therapy on the activity of daily living of poststroke-hemiplegic patients, a clinical study was performed. Methods : Twenty patients with poststroke-hemiplegia were randomized into two groups. Ten patients treated with kinesio taping. The other ten patients didn't treat with kinesio taping. Tapes were applied to the Deltoid, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Brachioradialis, Gluteus Maximus, Adductor muscles of the hip, Sartorius and Tibialis Anterior. The activity of daily living was measured with a modifted barthel index(MBI). The taping therapy was performed twice a week for 2 weeks. Results : In terms of improvement of activity of daily living, the smaple group showed statistically meningful increase after 2 times treatment compared with control group(p<0.05). In terms of self care score of MBI, the sample group showed statistically meningful increase after 1 time treatment with the control group(p<0.05). In terms of mobility score of MBI, the sample group showed statistically meningful increase after 3 times treatment with the control group(p<0.05).
