Excited State Intramolecular Proton Transfer and Physical Properties of 7-Hydroxyquinoline

  • The excited state intramolecular proton transfer and physical properties of 7-hydroxyquinoline are studied in various solutions and heterogeneous systems by measuring steady state and time-resolved fluorescence, reflection and NMR spectra. Proton transfer is observed only in protic solvents owing to its requirement of hydrogen-bonded solvent bridge for proton relay transfer. The activation energies of the proton transfer are 2.3 and 5.4 kJ/mol in $CH_3OH$ and in $CH_3OD$, respectively. Dimers of normal molecules are stable in microcrystalline powder form and undergo an extremely fast concerted double proton transfer upon absorption of a photon, consequently forming dimers of tautomer molecules. In the supercage of zeolite NaY, its tautomeric form is stable in the ground state and does not show any proton transfer.

  • Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are involved in many important cellular functions and play pivotal roles in cancer progression. The expression level of Kv2.1 was observed to be higher in the highly metastatic prostate cancer cells (PC-3), specifically in their membrane, than in immortalized prostate cells (WPMY-1 cells) and comparatively less metastatic prostate cancer cells (LNCaP and DU145 cells). However, Kv2.1 expression was significantly decreased when the cells were treated with antioxidants, such as N-acetylcysteine or ascorbic acid, implying that the highly expressed Kv2.1 could detect reactive oxygen species (ROS) in malignant prostate cancer cells. In addition, the blockade of Kv2.1 with stromatoxin-1 or siRNA targeting Kv2.1 significantly inhibited the migration of malignant prostate cancer cells. Our results suggested that Kv2.1 plays an important role as a ROS sensor and that it is a promising therapeutic molecular target in metastasis of prostate cancer.

Glycosylation of Semi-Synthetic Isoflavene Phenoxodiol with a Recombinant Glycosyltransferase from Micromonospora echinospora ATCC 27932

  • Glycosyltransferase (GT)-specific degenerate PCR screening followed by in silico sequence analyses of the target clone was used to isolate a member of family1 GT-encoding genes from the established fosmid libraries of soil actinomycetes Micromonospora echinospora ATCC 27932. A recombinant MeUGT1 was heterologously expressed as a His-tagged protein in E. coli, and its enzymatic reaction with semi-synthetic phenoxodiol isoflavene (as a glycosyl acceptor) and uridine diphosphate-glucose (as a glycosyl donor) created two different glycol-attached products, thus revealing that MeUGT1 functions as an isoflavonoid glycosyltransferase with regional flexibility. Chromatographic separation of product glycosides followed by the instrumental analyses, clearly confirmed these previously unprecedented glycosides as phenoxodiol-4'-α-O-glucoside and phenoxodiol-7-α-O-glucoside, respectively. The antioxidant activities of the above glycosides are almost the same as that of parental phenoxodiol, whereas their anti-proliferative activities are all superior to that of cisplatin (the most common platinum chemotherapy drug) against two human carcinoma cells, ovarian SKOV-3 and prostate DU-145. In addition, they are more water-soluble than their parental aglycone, as well as remaining intractable to the simulated in vitro digestion test, hence demonstrating the pharmacological potential for the enhanced bio-accessibility of phenoxodiol glycosides. This is the first report on the microbial enzymatic biosynthesis of phenoxodiol glucosides.

관세평가협정과 관세법상 하자보증비용에 관한 연구 (A Legal Review on the Warranty Charges Clauses of the WTO Customs Valuation Agreement and the Korean Customs Act)

  • Recently, Korean customs authorities have attempted to impose customs duties on the warranty charges paid by Korean subsidiaries ("the taxpayers") of multinational corporations to their overseas headquarters, or their affiliates, as indirect payment of the price actually paid or payable for imported goods and services, and the taxpayers' complaints have been steadily increasing. The key issue of Korean Supreme Court decision, 2018Du56619, revolves around opposing interpretations of the Korea Customs Act and the WTO's Customs Valuation Agreement in determining who is responsible for paying duties levied on warranty charges. The Supreme Court's ruling was consistent with its previous interpretations of the WTO agreement on customs valuations. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, a Korean subsidiary, stating that the overseas corporate headquarters' payments of warranty charges to Korean dealers are made on behalf of the Korean subsidiary, which is ultimately responsible for covering warranty charges. Thus, the Korean subsidiary's settlement of the warranty charges to their Korean dealers through the overseas headquarters is effectively the same as a direct payment to the dealers. Therefore, the Korean subsidiary performed warranty services on its liability and account. As such, the court ruled that warranty charges should not include tariffs on the indirect payment for warranty services in such cases. This paper presents the comparative legal implications for the warranty charge clauses in the WTO agreement and the Korean Customs Act and analyzes the Supreme Court's decisions.

고혈압 환자에 도움을 줄 수 있는 한방 다류 개발 (Development of Functional Tea Products for Hypertension Patients with the Mixed Medicinal Herbal Extracts)

  • 본 연구는 두충을 주 원료로 고안된 한방 혼합 다류가 고혈압 질환자의 혈압, 혈청지질 및 혈액학적 변화에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위하여 수행하였다. 한방 혼합 다류를 시험 4주간 복용한 그룹과 시험 전 그룹을 비교한 결과, 수축기 혈압은 167.14 mmHg에서 134.86 mmHg로, 이완기 혈압은 100.00 mmHg에서 87.10 mmHg로 뚜렷하게 저하되었다. 혈청지질 중 총콜레스테롤(TC), 고밀도-콜레스테롤(HDL-C), 저밀도-콜레스테롤(LDL-C)의 농도 및 동맥경화지수(AI)는 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 반면, 한방 혼합 다류를 복용 시 중성지방(TG) 농도가 237.10 mg/dL에서 145.00 mg/dL로 강하게 감소되었다. 시험 4주 후와 시험개시 전의 혈액학적 지표(적혈구, 백혈구, 헤마토크리트, 헤모글로빈, 혈소판 및 호모시스테인)를 비교한 경우, 유의적 변화는 관찰되지 않는 반면 평균 적혈구 혈색소 농도(MCHC)는 유의적으로 2.70% 증가되었다. 이상의 결과로 부터 두충을 주 원료로 고안된 한방 혼합 다류는 중성지방 농도를 감소시킴으로써 혈압을 저하시키는 것으로 추정하며, 평균 적혈 수혈 색소 농도를 증가시킴을 확인하였다.

산불피해 소나무재의 목질펠릿으로의 이용가능성 평가 (Evaluation for Wood Pellets from Pinus densiflora Wood Damaged by Forest Fire)

  • 목질 바이오매스 자원의 고도이용을 위한 연구의 일환으로 산불피해재와 정상재의 목질펠릿 특성을 조사하였다. 제조된 목질펠릿의 전건밀도는 소나무 정상재 및 피해재 각각 0.93~0.94, $0.86{\sim}0.88g/cm^3$로 나타났다. 각 시료의 압축강도는 $145{\sim}168kgf/cm^2$의 범위로서 소나무 정상재와 피해재 양자간에는 거의 차이가 없었다. 각 시료의 회분량은 소나무 정상재와 피해재가 각각 0.32~0.37%, 0.25~0.35%로 나타내었으며, 발열량은 18~19MJ/kg 범위로서 피해목과 톱밥 크기에 따른 차이는 보이지 않았다. 원소분석의 결과, 탄소 45.8~48.8% 범위이며, 수소와 산소의 경우 각각 6.2~6.5%와 46.5~48.0%로 나타났다. 결론적으로 산불피해재와 정상재간에 목질 펠릿의 특성의 차이는 거의 나타나지 않았다.

Growth curve estimates for wither height, hip height, and body length of Hanwoo steers (Bos taurus coreanae)

  • Growth curves in Hanwoo steers were estimated by Gompertz, Von Bertalanffy, Logistic, and Brody nonlinear models using growth data collected by the Hanwoo Improvement Center from a total of 6,973 Hanwoo (Bos taurus coreanae) steers 6 to 24 months old that were born between 1996 and 2015. The data included three parameters: A, mature size of body measurement; b, growth ratio; and, k, intrinsic growth rate. Nonlinear regression equations for wither height according to Gompertz, Von Bertalanffy, Logistic, and Brody models were $Y_t=144.7e^{-0.5869e^{-0.00301t}}$, $Y_t=145.3(1-0.1816e^{-0.00284t})^3$, $Y_t=143.1(1+0.7356e^{-0.00352t})^{-1}$, and $Y_t=146.8(1+0.4700e^{-0.00249t})^1$, respectively, while those for hip height were $Y_t=144.5e^{-0.5549e^{-0.00312t}}$, $Y_t=145.0(1-0.1724e^{-0.00295t})^3$, $Y_t=143.1(1+0.6863e^{-0.00360t})^{-1}$, and $Y_t=146.2(1+0.4501e^{-0.00263t})^1$, respectively. Equations for body length $Y_t=174.1e^{-0.8342e^{-0.00289t}}$, $Y_t=175.8(1-0.2500e^{-0.00265t})^3$, $Y_t=170.0(1+1.1548e^{-0.00363t})^{-1}$, and $Y_t=180.3(1+0.6077e^{-0.00215t})^1$, respectively, for the same models. Among the four models, the Brody model resulted in the lowest mean square error, with mean square errors of 31.79, 30.57, and 42.13, respectively, for wither height, hip height, and body length. Also, an estimated birth wither height, birth hip height, and birth body length (77.98, 80.57, and 70.97 cm, respectively) were lower in the Brody model than in other models. An inflection point was not observed during the growth phase of Hanwoo steer according to the growth curves calculated using Gompertz, Von Bertalanffy, and Logistic models. Based on the results, we concluded that the regression equation using the Brody model was the most appropriate among the four growth models. To obtain more accurate parameters, however, using data from a wider production period (from birth to shipping) would be required, and the development of a suitable model for body conformation traits would be needed.

Piedmont토양(土讓)에 식물체잔사(植物體殘渣)처리가 질소무기화(窒素無機化) 및 질산화과정(窒酸化過程)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Influnce of Plant Residues on Net Mineralization and Nitrification of the Selected Piedmont Soils in North Carolina)

  • North Caralina의 대표적인 piedmont 토양에 내재하고 있는 질소무기화 및 질산화 과정에 대한 결정은 식물체 잔사 처리로 인한 효과에 관한 이해를 필요로 한다. 질소무기화 및 질산화 과정은 토양종류 및 식물체의 종류에 따라 유의성 있게 영향을 받았다. 식물체 잔사를 처리한 토양의 질소 무기화 및 질산화량은 계속적인 배양 기간에 따라 꾸준히 증가되었으며, 질소무기화 및 질산화량은 배양 기간 동안 각각 $9.77{\mu}g/kg{\sim}143.80{\mu}g/kg$$5.31{\mu}g/kg{\sim}145.66{\mu}g/kg$ 이었다. 질소무기화 과정은 $NH_4-N$보다는 $NO_3-N$에 더 영향을 받았다. 전반적으로 가장 많은 질소무기화 및 질산화량은 Chewela와 Wehadkee 토양에서 발생하였으며, Enon과 Mecklenburg 토양에서 낮은 수치로 나타났다. 식물체 잔사 효율은 옥수수 식물체 잔사 처리에서 가장 낮았으며, 콩 식물체 잔사 처리에서 가장 높은 것으로 관측되었다. 저 투입 농업체계에서 콩 식물체의 잔사 처리가 North Caralina의 대표적인 Piedmont의 질소상태를 증진시키는 피복작물로서 유효하다고 사료된다.

I형강으로 보강된 강합성 절곡 바닥판의 유효 휨강성 분석 (Analysis of Effective Flexural Rigidity of Corrugated Steel-Concrete Composite Deck with I-beam Welded)

  • 강합성 절곡 바닥판 중에서 I형강으로 보강된 강합성 절곡 바닥판은 절곡바닥판내에 I형강을 매입시켜 기존의 현장타설 RC바닥판보다 경량화되고 시공성을 향상시킨 바닥판이다. 현재 일반적인 철근콘크리트 구조물의 유효휨강성에 대한 계산은 도로교설계기준 및 ACI에서 제안하고 있는 방법을 사용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 도로교설계기준 및 ACI에서 제안된 유효휨강성에 대한 산정 방법을 Ι형강으로 보강된 강합성 절곡 바닥판에 적용하여 그에 대한 적용성을 평가하고 철근콘크리트 바닥판과 비교를 하였다. 또한 실험변수로써 스터드의 유무, 지간의 변화, 단면의 형태, 부재연결방법에 걸쳐 4가지 변수를 두고 총 15개의 실험체를 제작하여 실제의 휨강성과 ACI에서 제안된 식에 의해 계산된 유효휨강성을 비교, 분석하였다.

임도(林道) 절토사면(切土斜面)의 붕괴위험(崩壞危險) 예측(豫測)에 관한 연구 (The Prediction of Cutting Slope Failure of Forest Road)

  • 본 연구는 집중호우로 인하여 임도사면 붕괴가 발생한 강원도 춘천시 지역의 5개 임도(백양임도, 변가터임도, 사오랑임도, 부귀임도, 당림임도)를 대상으로 수량화이론(II)에 의한 절토사면의 붕괴위험 예측에 관하여 분석하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 임도 절토사면 붕괴는 주로 절토부 구조적인 요인과 식생, 지형적인 요인이 복합적으로 작용하여 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 편상관계수(partial correlation coefficient) 및 범위(range) 값에 의한 절토사면의 붕괴예측 결과는 절토길이 8m이상, 토심이 2.5m이상, 산지경사 $30^{\circ}{\sim}50^{\circ}$사이, 절토피복율이 무식생인 경우, 절토경사 $60^{\circ}$ 이상에서 붕괴위험도가 높게 나타났으며, 판별적중율은 90.1%이었다.
