Performance Enhancement of Low-Cost Land Navigation System for Location-Based Service

  • This work demonstrates a dead-reckoning (DR) scheme for a low-cost land navigation system and a DR/GPS system design using the sigma point Kalman filter (SPKF). T hrough an observability analysis and some simulations, it is shown that the performances of a stand-alone DR system and DR/GPS system can be improved by employing the proposed DR scheme and SPKF. By using the designed DR scheme and filter, the stand-alone DR system does not have any undetectable errors occurring on the curve trajectory. And the DR/GPS system can provide a stable and seamless navigational solution even in the case where the initial heading estimation error is large, such as 160 degrees, or when the GPS signal is unavailable due to tunnels, buildings, and so on. Simulation results indicate a satisfactory performance of the proposed system.

A Study on Dose and Image Quality according to X-ray Photon Detection Method in Digital Radiography System (Digital Radiography System에서 X선 광자 검출 방식에 따른 선량 및 화질 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose is a comparative evaluation in the DR System according to the dosimetry and image quality of the quantitative and objective via Direct digital radiography, Indirect digital radiography, Image intensifier (Charge Coupled Device type) digital radiography. The experimental method used rando phantom and measured the entrance surface dose. And through using the measured entrance surface dose and then using the PCXMC program were evaluated risk due to irradiation and the effective dose. SNR and NPS and CNR were measured and analyzed by using 21cm acryl phantom. Significance of measured value was evaluated by statistics method. Entrance surface dose, major organ dose, effective dose all of them were measured the lowest rated in direct DR when it is on the basis of direct DR dose, high-dose ratio were measured in I.I DR approximately 1.3 times, indirect DR approximately 2.4 times. Risk in accordance with radiation also was measured same as dose ratio. On the conclusion that SNR measurement result based on direct DR SNR measurements, low-SNR ratio were measured in I.I DR approximately 7.25 times, indirect DR approximately 1.48 times. On the conclusion that CNR measurement result based on direct DR CNR measurements, high-dose ratio were measured in I.I type DR approximately 1.16 tims and low-dose ratio were measured in indirect DR approximately 0.87 times. Therefore Direct DR system using a-selenium sensing element to detect x-ray photon is thought effectively at the examination such as infant to sensitive irradiation and the genital gland. Because quality image is built by low dose. Also when it is necessary that image test requiring many diagnosis information, indirect DR system is thought effectively.

  • This paper presents a low cost and high accuracy integrated Global Positioning System (GPS)/dead reckoning (DR) system. The integrated GPS/DR system is capable of providing highly accurate position data in real-time or in post processing. Based on the analysis of the main error source affecting the DR measurements, an eight-state mathematical model for the integrated system has been developed to represent these errors. This eight-state model has been used to build a nonlinear filter for the estimation of the state vector at every epoch when DR measurements are available. The accuracy of the system has been evaluated using 1Hz DR measurements and 3Hz continuous GPS position estimates. Through numerical simulation the system performance during periods with GPS outage has been investigated by comparing two different noise models. While one model is the position estimation filter containing a single noise model, the other filter includes two-level noise model. The simulation results have shown that the estimation filter containing two-level noise model for computing the position error of the integrated GPS/DR system yields better performance than that the filter including the single-level noise model does.

  • System performances in terms of image quality between an amorphous silicon DR system and a conventional film-screen system were evaluated. Various aspects of image quality MTF (modulation transfer function), NPS (noise power spectrum), SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) and contrast were measured and calculated. The MTF of the DR system was comparable to the film-screen systems. The noise was mainly dominated by the quantum mottle in both systems and the electronic noise was found in the DR system. The contrast of the DR system was better than the film-screen systems by virtue of high sensitivity and image processing. Compared to the film-screen systems in general radiography, the DR system had similar resolution and showed better contrast with the same exposure condition after contrast manipulation. The results of this study provide some useful information about the performance of the DR system in connection with medical applications.

Performance Improvement of Low-cost DR/GPS for Land Navigation using Sigma Point Based RHKF Filter

  • This paper describes a DR construction for land navigation and the sigma point based receding horizon Kalman FIR (SPRHKF) filter for DR/GPS hybrid navigation system. A simple DR construction is adopted to improve the performance both of the pure land DR navigation and the DR/GSP hybrid navigation system. In order to overcome the flaws of the EKF, the SPKF is merged with the receding horizon strategy. This filter has several advantages over the EKF, the SPKF, and the RHKF filter. The advantages include the robustness to the system model uncertainty, the initial estimation error, temporary unknown bias, and etc. The computational burden is reduced. Especially, the proposed filter works well even in the case of exiting the unmodeled random walk of the inertial sensors, which can be occurred in the MEMS inertial sensors by temperature variation. Therefore, the SPRHKF filter can provide the navigation information with good quality in the DR/GPS hybrid navigation system for land navigation seamlessly.

  • This paper proposes a vision/DR integrated navigation system using distance between wheels of the vehicle and a gyroscope. In order to show the validity of the proposed vision/DR integrated navigation system, experiments were performed for a trajectory of a mobile robot. Experimental results show that the proposed vision/DR integrated navigation system gives better navigation performance than a vision/DR integrated navigation system using only distance between wheels of the vehicle.

  • The Korean DR market proposes suppression of peak demand under reliability crisis caused a natural disaster or unexpected power plant accidents as well as saving power plant construction costs and expanding amount of reserve as utility's perspective. End-user is notified a DR event signal DR execution before one hour, and executes DR based on requested amount of load reduction. This paper proposes a DR energy management algorithm that can be scheduled the optimal operations of chiller system and ESS in the next day considering the TOU tariff and DR scheme. In this DR algorithm is divided into two scheduling's; day-ahead operation scheduling with temperature forecasting error and operation rescheduling on DR operation. In day-ahead operation scheduling, the operations of DR resources are scheduled based on the finite number of ambient temperature scenarios, which have been generated based on the historical ambient temperature data. As well as, the uncertainties in DR event including requested amount of load reduction and specified DR duration are also considered as scenarios. Also, operation rescheduling on DR operation day is proposed to ensure thermal comfort and the benefit of a COB owner. The proposed method minimizes the expected energy cost by a mixed integer linear programming (MILP).

  • This paper describes a GPS/DR integration filter for a car navigation system. A new GPS/DR integration filter is derived for obtaining more accurate and reliable position data. The covariance analysis results and simulation results are shown for evaluating the performance of the proposed GPS/DR integration filter.

Study on image quality and dosage comparison of F/S system and DR system (F/S시스템과 DR시스템의 화질과 피폭선량 비교에 관한 검토)

  • Currently, many hospitals are hastening to introduce digital radiography systems. This is a direct result of the intentions to improve medical services and to digitalize radiology information systems, and is also leading to the improvement of medical imaging technology. Throughout F/S system's long history, many people have researched the image quality and dosage concerning these systems, and as a result, huge improvements in the dosage of patients were possible. Similarly, I believe that DR systems need the same kind of effort. Of course, decreases in dosage that ignore image quality are unthinkable. The results of experiments conducted by five hospitals during a period of 3 months brought to us the conclusions listed below. 1. Based on the comparison and analysis of the exposure control of F/S systems and DR systems, DR systems generally showed higher exposure control for parts of the phantom that became thicker, and the exposure control improved rapidly as the thickness increased. 2. DR systems still proved to be somewhat deficient in resolution measurements compared to existing F/S systems. The image processing part of DR systems contributed much to these result. 3. Under conditions used clinically, the dosage measurements of DR systems were generally higher regardless of region. 4. According to the evaluation of image quality, DR systems showed a higher degree of satisfaction as the thickness of the region became thinner. As mentioned above and based on the mutual relationship experiments between the dosage and image quality of F/S systems and DR systems, research to increase the satisfaction of DR systems must be considered.
