Study on Wave Absorption of 1D-/2D-Periodic EBG Structures and/or Metamaterial Layered Media as Frequency Selective Surfaces

  • This paper conducts a study on the frequency-dependent filtering and blocking effects of a variety of periodic structures, dubbed frequency selective surface(FSS). The periodic structures of interest are 1D and 2D repeated patterns of metal patches or slots sitting on the interface between the two different regions in the layered media which will show the capacitive or inductive behaviors and incorporated with the electromagnetic bandgap(EBG) geometry as another stratified media. Besides the normal substances so called double positive(DPS)-type in the layered media, metamaterials of double negative(DNG) are considered as layering components on the purpose of investigating the unusual electromagnetic phenomena. Frequency responses of transmission(absorption in terms of scattering) and reflection will be calculated by a numerical analysis which can be validated by the comparison with the open literature and demonstrated for the periodic structures embedding metamaterials or not. Most importantly, numerous examples of FSS will present the useful guidelines to have absorption or reflection properties in the frequency domain.

  • 본고를 통해 초고주파 이론과 공학 분야는 물론 물리학, 재료공학의 기초 학문 분야에서도 지대한 관심을 모으고 있는 Metamaterial(MTM) 구조에 대해 조명하고자 한다. 먼저 MTM의 핵심이라고 할 수 있는 Left-Handedness(LH) 왼손 전파 법칙과 LH 발생 재질인 Double Negative(DNG) 재질에서의 전파 특성을 상대 유전율과 상대 투자율 평면에서 확인하고, 일반 매질인 Double Positive(DPS)형인 오른손 전파 법칙 Right-Handedness(=RH) 매질과의 결합(Composite Right-and Left-Hnaded=CRLH)에서 얻어지는 특징들을 살펴본다. 특히 DPS와 DNC의 결합에서 얻을 수 있는 음의 공진과 0차 공진(Zero-Order Resonance)을 언급하고 ZOR을 응용한 RF 부품의 소형화와 특성 개선사례를 소개한다. 또한, 안테나와 전자파 산란 특성에 MTM의 특수한 성질을 이용하여, 크기를 줄이거나 표면파를 억제하거나 혹은 방사 개구를 확대 또는 렌즈 특성을 얻어낸 사례도 언급된다 그리고 LH 특성은 아니지만 MTM 계열인 ENG(Epsilon Negative), MNG(Mu Negative), ENZ(Epsilon Near Zero)를 응용한 예들을 보이고, MTM 관점에서 FSS(Frequency Selective Surface )의 특성을 논의하고, 그간에 발표된 대표적 MTM 연구 결과에 대한 소개를 마치고자 한다.

  • High current behaviors of extended drain n-type metal-oxide-semiconductor field effects transistor (EDNMOS) with double polarity source (DPS) for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection are analyzed. Simulation based contour analyses reveal that combination of bipolar junction transistor operation and deep electron channeling induced by high electron injection gives rise to the second on-state. Therefore, the deep electron channel formation needs to be prevented in order to realize stable and robust ESD protection performance. Based on our analyses, general methodology to avoid the double snapback and to realize stable ESD protection is to be discussed.

Indirect Electrochemical Oxidation of Phenol by Ce4+, Controlling Surface Insulation of Au Electrode

  • Indirect electrochemical oxidation of phenol by $Ce^{4+}$ was investigated in sulfuric acid solutions. It was found that electrode fouling during oxidation of phenol can be controlled by adjusting the time interval (TI) of double potential steps (DPSs). While the electroactivity was greatly decreased after several DPSs of a relatively long TI, repeated DPSs with a short potential pulse showed substantial amounts of electroactivity after a few hundreds or thousands DPS, suggesting that the formation of an insulating layer can be controlled by adjusting a potential program. Effectiveness of the consecutive application of DPSs for phenol decomposition was confirmed by GC-MS.

  • Main starting valve is one of the main parts in the control system of diesel engines, purposed for starting main engines. It is composed of ball valve, check valve, actuator, etc. The design axioms provide a general framework for design methodology. Two axioms are independence axiom and information axiom. These axioms can be applied to all design process in a general way. The first axiom is introduced to analyze and evaluate the design of a main starting valve. The design parameters(DPS) are determined sequentially by considering the independence axiom. For the structural design of a main starting valve, the strength is calculated by using finite element method. In addition, the strength of its actuator piston is evaluated.

  • This paper concerns the issue related to the focus phenomena with a particular reference to the two alternating orders (continuous vs. discontinuous orders) in particle constructions in English. To explain the alternation of word order in particle constructions, I will argue that the choice of word order is closely related to the focus property of the object DPs. Following Drubig (2003), I will assume that focus-feature is taken to be a syntactic feature assigned freely to a lexical head in the process of the mapping into Lexical Array (LA) from the lexicon (LEX). I argue that the focus-marked object DP cannot move out of its focus domain and thus the continuous order is derived. In the case of non-focus-marked object DP, however, the object DP moves out of VP in order to receive an appropriate interpretation. As a result, the discontinuous order is derived.

  • Photochromic diarylethene polymers (DPs) in which 1,2-bis(2-methylbenzo[b ]thiophene-3-yl)hexafluorocyclopentene (BTF6) were covalently grafted onto the polymer main chain as pendant photochromic units were newly synthesized and their photochromic properties were investigated using steady-state and picosecond timeresolved spectroscopies. Polysiloxanes substituted with BTF6 molecules were prepared by sol-gel process using a mixture of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), a silylated BTF6, and an organically modified silane precursor in the presence of HCl. The polysiloxane film (DP1) prepared from $\omega-methoxy$ poly(ethylene glycol) 3-(triethoxysilyl) propylcarbainate (MPGSC) as the silane precursor showed a much lower glass transition temperature than that (DP2) from heptadecafluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (HDFTMS). The ring-closure quantum yields of DP1 and DP2 were determined to be 0.20 and 0.02, respectively. Such a large difference in the quantum yield was attributed to the polymer matrix environment of the free inner volume.

Design of Multi-protocol IED for Networked Control System of Multi-Induction Motor in Industrial Fields

  • This paper proposes a new design and implementation of multi-protocol IED for networked control system of multi-induction motor in industrial fields. The experimental multi-induction motor based multi-protocol IED of Modbus/LonTalks/TCP/IP module is designed and fabricated. This article addresses issues in architecture of LonWorks/Ethernet sever, embedded processors architecture for converting Modbus protocol to LonTalks protocol, integrating preconfigured software, and Internet technologies. It is also verified that the multi-induction motor control and monitoring system using LonWorks/Ethernet server have available, interoperable, reliable performance characteristics from the experimental results, especially, the seamless integration of TCP/IP networks with control networks allows access to any control point from anywhere. Thus, the results provide available technical data for remote distributed motor control system of industrial field or building microgrid with LonWorks BAS.

  • Dual coil을 사용하는 상용 AMAT DPS II 300 mm Centura 장비의 antenna의 전류비를 조절하여 $SiO_2$의 식각 균일도를 평가하였다. Inner turn과 outer turn의 흐르는 전류비를 분배 capacitor로 조절하여 16.9 %의 이온 전류 밀도 분포를 확인하였고, 투입 전력에 따라 200 W에서 12 %, 800 W에서 9 %로 점차 감소하는 경향을 확인하였다. 이때 300 mm wafer의 반지름 방향으로의 식각 균일도는 3 %로 측정되었고, FRC (flow ratio control)는 0.5에서 가장 균일한 결과를 얻었다.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a VBC (Voltage Bus Conditioner) system for a DC DPS (Distributed Power System). The advantages of the proposed VBC system are as follows: 1) the storage capacitor use smaller value than the conventional capacitive storage 2) the controller requires only one sensor to both damp the voltage transients and maintain the storage voltage. The performance of the proposed VBC system has been simulated and evaluated by Saber package.
