  • In this paper, a computationally efficient time delay and doppler estimation algorithm is proposed for active sonar with Linear Frequency Modulated (LFM) signal. To reduce the computational burden of the conventional estimation algorithm, an algebraic equation is used which represents the relationship between the time delay and doppler in cross-ambiguity function of the LFM signal. The algebraic equation is derived based on the Fast maximum Likelihood (FML) method. Using this algebraic relation, the time delay and doppler are estimated with two 1-D search instead of the conventional 2-D search. The estimation errors of the proposed algorithm are analyzed for various SNR's. The simulation result demonstrates the good performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • A weather radar extracts the weather information from the return echoes which consist of scattered electromagnetic wave signals from rain, cloud and dust particles, etc. The acquisition of accurate weather information depends on the operation environment which include the Doppler weather signal and ground clutter characteristics. Since the conventional symmetric weather Doppler model does not represent the measurements in real situations, the improved model is suggested to describe the skewness in the Doppler spectrum model. Using the suggested model, many various weather signals can be simulated to verify the accuracy of signal processing algorithms and the reliability of the extracted weather information

  • We had applied Doppler ultrasound guided modified Allen's test for a Volkmann's ischemic contracture patient who had ulnar artery constriction which was not detected with acoustic Doppler and CT-angiogram preoperatively. We report this case of Volkmann's ischemic contracture with brief review of literatures for awareness of the Doppler-ultrasound guided modified Allen's test.

  • The present study compared two indirect blood pressure methods at thoracic limb, pelvic limb, and coccygeal sites. For measurement of blood pressure, 48 client-owned dogs in a clinical setting were used. When comparing the results obtained by doppler and oscillometric methods, there were significant differences in blood pressure of the thoracic and pelvic limbs. The Doppler machine produced significantly higher blood pressure value than oscillometry measured at thoracic and pelvic limbs. The difference in blood pressure between the two methods was not significant when measured in the tail. Comparison of blood pressure measured at three different sites by doppler, blood pressure measured at pelvic limb was higher than at thoracic limb and tail. In case of oscillometry, there were no significant differences between the three sites. The results of this study indicate that mechanical and positional differences were existed in blood pressure measurements at the canine thoracic limb, pelvic limb and tail.

  • Portal blood flow was measured with pulsed doppler ultrasound in thirty normal dogs. In normal dogs, the average portal blood flow velocity was $17.03{\pm}1.75cm/sec$ and the average portal blood flow was $41.59{\pm}10.10ml/min/kg$. The incident angle between the doppler beam and the portal vein averaged $65^{\circ}$. The average portal vein sectional area was $0.41{\pm}0.14cm^2$. The Congestion index was $0.0245{\pm}0.0081cm{\cdot}sec$. Conclusively, the spectral doppler ultrasonography was quick, non-invasive and simple diagnostic method in circulatory disorders of liver.

  • This paper is technical review about Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum(DSSS) to apply in launch vehicle system. First, we introduce communication protocol(carrier frequency, code length, process gain, data rate, chip rate etc) about several application system using DSSS. And then, we survey and summarize the effect of doppler shift to the DSSS. The doppler shift is important error factor for PN code tracking in the fast moving system like launch vehicle. So, spread spectrum code acquisition technique for a direct sequence system in the presence of doppler effect must be investigated.

  • Multi-mode monopulse system is widely used for satellite terminal like UAV because of high tracking accuracy and low size/weight profile. In order to calculate tracking error, Multi-mode monopulse system utilizes high-order mode signal, and it should have enough C/N(carrier to noise) level therefore tracking system needs narrow band filtering of received satellite beacon signal as much as possible. However, UAV suffers for beacon frequency drift derived from Doppler effect due to satellite figure 8 movement and UAV maneuvering. Therefore wideband signal processing needs to be considered in advance for exact doppler compensation and consequent time delay. In this paper, we propose the multi-stage Digital Signal processing system for beacon signal, which could minimize the signal delay under high Doppler and low C/N condition.

  • This paper proposes an improved phase estimation method for AM(Amplitude Modulation) range measurement system. The previous phase estimation method induces errors by Doppler shift of a moving target. The proposed method compensates phase estimation error through the ADC(Adaptive Doppler Correction) to take the Doppler shift, thus can improve distance measurement accuracy. When compared with the previous method through simulation results, the Doppler shift compensation and accuracy are improved by 94.7% and 50%, respectively. Target distance error in an acoustic tank is estimated to be 7.7cm, which confirms that the proposed method can be used to estimate the distance in the marine environment.

  • Recently, techniques for detecting the movement of the object of energy saving, impact prevention, such as automatic door opening and closing has been applied to various fields. Doppler sensor does not receive a large impact on the environment, such as conventional infrared ray sensor, a problem with an ultrasonic sensor as a sensor which can compensate the temperature, noise, dust and so on. In this paper, when the object to be detected, the LED lamp is turned on 24 hours a Doppler sensor ON, if not switch to the OFF state, the illumination of the LED lamp has been developed for controlling the two-stage converter. Doppler sensor developed by applying the converter module and the power-saving control section leader and demonstrated the power savings.

  • In this paper we proposed a dada-aided Doppler estimation method for underwater acoustic communication. The training sequence is non-dedicate, hence it can be designed for Doppler estimation as well as channel equalization. We assume the channel has been equalized and consider only flat-fading channel. First, based on the training symbols the theoretical received sequence is composed. Next the least square principle is applied to build the objective function, which minimizes the error between the composed and the actual received signal. Then an iterative approach is applied to solve the least square problem. The proposed approach involves an outer loop and inner loop, which resolve the channel gain and Doppler coefficient, respectively. The theoretical performance bound, i.e. the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) of estimation is also derived. Computer simulations results show that the proposed algorithm achieves the CRLB in medium to high SNR cases.
