  • The DOA(Direction Of Arrival) estimation to select a best beam for receiving a particular signal in switched beam antenna systems, and to shape the optimal beam in adaptive array antenna systems, is typically performed under the assumption that the target user motion is almost negligible. In this paper, we model the user as the time-varying source and adopt the LPA(Local Polynomial Approximation) tracking algorithm, proposed by Katkovnik, to solve the time-varying DOA estimation problem. Then, we compare the power spectrum functions between the LPA beamformer and the conventional beamformer, also, the normalized SNRs of each beamformer. The results show that the LPA beamformer is robuster than the conventional beamformer in tine-varying environments. In addition, in case of the conventional beamformer, more array elements give rise to more degradation in the aspect of SNR.

  • With the high interest on robot technology and application, the research on artificial auditory systems for robot is very active. In this paper we discuss sound source localization and tracing based on audio-visual information. For video signals we use face detection based on skin color model. Also, binaural-based DOA is used as audio information. We integrate both informations using Kalman filter. The experimental results show that audio-visual person tracking Is useful, specially in the case that some informations are not observed.

  • The noise of maneuvering submarines or vessels can be divided into the tonal signals and broadband ambient noise. Tonal signals are from the revolution of motors and engines of vessels, and broadband ambient noise is from the bubbles which are generated by the propellers and the flow of water around vessels. We can analyze the kinds and the speed of vessels if we analyze the tonal signals and ambient noise. But, it is difficult to divide the tonal signals form the ambient noise when the power of tonal signal is much weaker than the power of ambient noise. In this paper, we detect the direction of arrival(DOA) of the noises generated by vessels with the automatic tracking window(ATW) preprocessing algorithm, and make a beam to the direction of the targets. We suggest a method which can separate weak tonal signals from broadband ambient noise with the ATW algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a monopulse beamforming network to estimate a target angle in interference conditions. The proposed system estimates the target direction of arrival (DOA) with two separate beamformings for azimuth and elevation with a planar may. The elevation is extracted from adaptive beamforming in the azimuth direction and the azimuth from adaptive beamforming in the elevation direction. Unlike conventional monopulse beamforming techniques using complex correction formulas or a cascaded architecture of an adaptive array and a mainlobe canceller, the proposed system is very efficient from the computational complexity. The advantage is from fact that the monopulse ratio of the proposed system does not depend on the adapted weights. Moreover, the proposed system can estimate the DOA of the target even for multiple mainlobe interferences since it does not need my kinds of mainlobe maintenance technique.

  • Ryu et al. proposed a multiple target angle-tracking algorithm with efficient equation for angular innovation, and Ryu's algorithm has good feature that it has no data association problem. Ryu's algorithm is only applicable to linear sensor array, because its efficient equation for angular innovation is derived in case of using a linear sensor array. In a many fields studying multiple target angle-tracking, the various shapes of sensor array are used. In sonar, a cylindrical sensor array is as much used as a linear sensor array, a example is hull mounted sonar. In this paper, Ryu's algorithm is modified to be applicable to cylindrical sensor array, and the tracking performance of a modified algorithm is verified by various computer simulations.

  • These days, protecting location privacy has become essential and really challenging, especially protecting it from smart applications and services that rely on Location-Based Services (LBS). As the technology and the services that are based on it are developed, the capability and the experience of the attackers are increased. Therefore, the traditional protection ways cannot be enough and are unable to fully ensure and preserve privacy. Previously, a hybrid approach to privacy has been introduced. It used an obfuscation technique, called Double-Obfuscation Approach (DOA), to improve the privacy level. However, this approach has some weaknesses. The most important ones are the fog nodes that have been overloaded due to the number of communications. It is also unable to prevent the Tracking and Identification attacks in the Mix-Zone technique. For these reasons, this paper introduces a developed and enhanced approach, called Multi-Obfuscation Approach (MOA that mainly depends on the communication between neighboring fog nodes to overcome the drawbacks of the previous approach. As a result, this will increase the resistance to new kinds of attacks and enhance processing. Meanwhile, this approach will increase the level of the users' privacy and their locations protection. To do so, a big enough memory is needed on the users' sides, which already is available these days on their devices. The simulation and the comparison prove that the new approach (MOA) exceeds the DOA in many Standards for privacy protection approaches.

  • It is difficult to detect and to track the moving targets like tanks and diesel vehicles due to the variety of terrain and moving of targets. It is possible to be happened the aliasing conditions as the difficulty of antenna deployment in the complex environment like the battle fields. In this paper, we study the problem of detecting and tracking of moving targets which are emitting wideband signals under severe spatial aliasing conditions because of the sparse arrays. We developed a direction of arrival(DOA) estimation algorithm based on subband MUSIC(Multiple Signal Classification) method which produces high-resolution estimation. In this algorithm, the true bearings are invariant regardless of changes of frequency bands while the aliased false bearings vary. As a result, the proposed algorithm overcomes the aliasing effects and improves the localization performance in sparse passive arrays.

  • The drones have been developed for military purposes and are now used in many fields such as logistics, communications, agriculture, disaster, defense and media. As the range of use of drones increases, cases of abuse of drones are increasing. It is necessary to develop anti-drone technology to detect the position of unwanted drones using the physical phenomena that occur when the drones fly. In this paper, we estimate the DOA(direction of arrival) of the drone by using the acoustic signal generated when the drone is flying. In addition, the dynamics model of the drones was applied to the unscented kalman filter to improve the microphone array detection performance and reduce the error of the position estimation. Through simulation, the drone detection performance was predicted and verified through experiments.

  • This paper proposes a fast subspace tracking methods, which is called GVFF FAPI, based on FAPI (Fast Approximated Power Iteration) method and GVFF RLS (Gradient-based Variable Forgetting Factor Recursive Lease Squares). Since the conventional FAPI uses a constant forgetting factor for estimating covariance matrix of source signals, it has difficulty in applying to non-stationary environments such as continuously changing DOAs of source signals. To overcome the drawback of conventioanl FAPI method, the GVFF FAPI uses the gradient-based variable forgetting factor derived from an improved means square error (MSE) analysis of RLS. In order to achieve the decreased subspace error in non-stationary environments, the GVFF-FAPI algorithm used an improved forgetting factor updating equation that can produce a fast decreasing forgetting factor when the gradient is positive and a slowly increasing forgetting factor when the gradient is negative. Our numerical simulations show that GVFF-FAPI algorithm offers lower subspace error and RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of tracked DOAs of source signals than conventional FAPI based MUSIC (MUltiple SIgnal Classification).

  • Background: For effective and systematic management of patients in the emergency department(ED), the data on patient arrival and status in ED of Yeungnam University Hospital were evaluated. Materials and Methods: During the seven days from Apr. 1 to Apr. 7, 1998, the general patient information such as onset time and place, factors associated with transportation, causes of admission, cared department and patient disposition were recorded. Results: Total of 464 patients visited the ED during the seven days, and the mean number of patients per day was 66.3. Male to female ratio was 1:0.71. Daily staying patients were 17.3, and 83.6 patients were cared totally each day. The methods of transportation and distribution of patients according to region and event were as follows: visit by walk(57.3%). transportation by car(58.0%), place of event in residence(85.3%), regional distribution in Taegu(81.5%), and direct visit(97.4%). Cause of admission due to diseases was 74.6%. The percentages of departments which cared the patients were internal medicine 26.6%, pediatrics 16.8%, orthopedics 8.6%, neurology 8.2%, neurosurgery 7.8% and other department including emergency medicine 8.2%, respectively. Patient dispositions were admission 38.4%, discharge 61.0% and death on arrival(DOA) 0.6%, but referred patient-to-another-hospital was zero. Conclusion: Improvements in several aspects of ED's caring system such as "fast tracking" system and reinforcement of disease and trauma caring system, would be helpful for effective management of emergency patients.
