  • This study was for analysing the sedimentary rock slope stability and providing the reinforcement method that can heighten stability. The study area consists of Cretaceous basalt or basaltic tuff belonging to Hak-Bong Basalt Formation in Ha-Yang Group. Nature of geological structure confirmed in this area ars bedding, joint and fault. Majority of geological structure that affect most relationship rock slope stability is bedding. It is shown that dip direction is 120~160/15~25. In other structure, joint sets are shown that dip direction of set 1 is 310~330/65~85 and set 2 is 230~250/70~85. Joint set 3 shows above 85$^{\circ}$ high angle on NE trend although do not show clear. Stability analysis about rock slope used kinematic analysis, limit equilibrium method and FLAC by numerical analysis method. FLAC is continuum model that use Fintie Defferentce Method, but could use Interfaces Module and get discrete model's analysis effect such as UDEC.

  • The study was carried out to investigate the effects of hydrolysis conditions such as treatment times and concentrations on the solubility of insoluble sericin using the hydrochloric acid solution. When insoluble sericin was hydrolyzed by HCl solution, the solubility was increased with the higher treatment concentration. As the results of electrophoresis of sericin powder obtained by the HCl treatment, a distinguishable band was not confirmed. Average degree of polymerizations(A.D.P.) of sericin hydrolyzed by HCl solution were about 4.2~5.9 and average molecular weights(M.W.) were about 470~670. The longer hydrolysis time reduced the whiteness of sericin powder. As the results of amino acid analysis, the amino acid compositions of the sericin powder from HCl treatment were sililar to that of insoluble sericin, but Tyr. and Arg. were not detected in the powder obtained by HCl treatment. In DSC analysis, thermal deformation and pyrolysis peak located at near 220$^{\circ}C$ and 330$^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents estimation of average compressive strengths of three types of stiffened panels under lateral pressure and axial compression based on simplified formulas from CSRs and nonlinear FEAs. FEA scenarios are prepared based on the slenderness ratios of the stiffened panels used for in-service vessels. The seven step lateral pressures by 1bar increment are imposed on FE models assuming maximum 30m water height. The number of FEAs for FB-, AB-, and TB-stiffened panels is totally 189 times. FEA results show that existence of pressure can evolves significant reduction of ultimate strengths, meanwhile CSR formulas do not take into account the lateral pressure effect. Lateral pressure acting on the stiffened panel with higher column slenderness ratio more reduces the ultimate strengths than those with smaller column slenderness ratio. A new concept of relative average compressive strain energy instead of the ultimate strength is introduced in order to rationally compare the average compressive strength through complete compressive straining regime. The differences of the ultimate strengths between CSR formulas and FEA results are relatively small for FB- and AB-stiffened panels, but larger discrepancies of relative average compressive strain energies are shown.

  • Ilmenite deposits are developed along the Precambrian intercumulated anorthosite body in Jikjeon-Ri, Bukcheon-Myeon, Hadong, Korea. Both detailed geological survey and drilling prospecting data for seven boreholes can be used to do resource estimation with GOCAD S/W. 3D modeling using geostatistics is applied to predict the shape and size of Ti ore bodies. As a result, 5 Ti ore veins occurred along N-S direction and average grade of Ti and ilmenite resources are calculated as 2.98 wt% Ti and 7,494,303 metric tons ilmenite ore reserves (Ti 223,330 t). This 3D modeling will be applied to the whole ilmenite deposits in Hadong-Sancheong area to predict the exact distribution and resources estimations of Ti ores.

  • Tropical forests play a key role for functioning of the planet and maintenance of life. These forests support more than half of the world's species, serve as regulators of global and regional climate, act as carbon sinks and provide valuable ecosystem services. Forest floor biomass and litterfall dynamics was measured in different sites influenced by fire in a seasonally dry tropical forest of Bhoramdeo wildlife sanctuary of Chhattisgarh, India. The forest floor biomass was collected randomly placed quadrats while the litterfall measured by placing stone-block lined denuded quadrat technique. The seasonal mean total forest floor biomass across the fire regimes varied from $2.00-3.65t\;ha^{-1}$. The total litterfall of the study sites varied from $4.75-7.56t\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$. Annual turnover of litter varied from 70-74% and the turnover time between 1.35-1.43 years. Monthly pattern of forest floor biomass indicated that partially decayed litter, wood litter and total forest floor were differed significantly. The seasonal variation showed that leaf fall differed significantly in winter season only among the fire regimes while the wood litter was found non significant in all the season. This study shows that significant variation among the site due to the forest fire. Decomposition is one of the ecological processes critical to the functioning of forest ecosystems. The decomposing wood serves as a saving account of nutrients and organic materials in the forest floor. Across the site, high fire zone was facing much of the deleterious effects on forest floor biomass and litter production. Control on such type of wildfire and anthropogenic ignition could allow the natural recovery processes to enhance biological diversity. Chronic disturbances do not provide time for ecosystem recovery; it needs to be reduced for ecosystem health and maintaining of the high floral and faunal biodiversity.

  • Apharyngostrigea ibis (Trematoda: Strigeidae) were obtained from the small intestine of two black-crowned night herons (Nycticorax nycticorax) and three grey herons (Ardea cinerea jouyi) between July 2006 and September 2018 in Daejeon metropolitan city and Kangwon province, Republic of Korea. The body is covered with a relatively thick cuticle, devoid of spines, and bipartite. The body measures at 2.3-3.33 × 0.86-1.20 mm, and the fore-body is ventrally concave. The oral sucker leads into a short esophagus that is devoid of a muscular pharynx. The worm was studied with a scanning electron microscope for the first time resulting in the detection of a pair of lappets located at the bilateral portion of the oral sucker. This is the first record of A. ibis in the Republic of Korea.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a research model and to verify the effects death anxiety has on subjective health status, economic status, depression and social support for the elders and their quality of life. The survey targeting 330 elders from the 17 senior citizen centers in Dong-do-chun and Nam-yang-ju city was carried out from 2008.8.1 to 2008.9.31. To summarise the research result, 6 hypotheses among 9 hypotheses concerning the direct effects were supported. In another words, health status, depression and social support are valid and the direct effect of depression, social support and death anxiety are valid as subjective quality of life as an endogenous variable. In the case of indirect effects, 2 indirect effects among all 4 indirect effect hypotheses are valid. In another words, the effect the subjective health status has on the subjective quality of life is valid as the mediating effects of death anxiety and the effect depression has on the subjective quality of life is also valid as the mediating effects of death anxiety. Based on the results of this study, a proposal to reduce death anxiety among the elderly is suggested.
