  • Formaldehyde is important because of their irritant and toxic properties, mutagenicity and carcinogenicity. In this study, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is used for the analysis of formaldehyde after derivatization with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) cartridge. Analytical parameters such as linearity, repeatability and minimum detection limit were evaluated. The linearity ($r^2$) was 0.9997 when analyte concentration ranges from 25 to $200{\mu}g/l$. The relative standard deviation (%RSD) was 1.25 % for concentration of $200{\mu}g/l$. The minimum detection limit (MDL) was 0.73 ppbv. It was shown that LC-MS method has a great potential for formaldehyde analysis. The results of formaldehyde from the survey of Ban-Woll and Shi-Hwa Industrial Complex samples, the highest level was 6.20, 3.93 ppb, respectively. The highest emission level of formaldehyde at chemical plants in the Ban-Woll' Shi-Hwa Industrial Complex was 5421.25 ppb.

  • The Youngsan Lake was constructed to supply agricultural water to the extensive rice fields in the basin of the lake in 1981. Hypoxia has often developed in the bottom water of the lake during the warm season although the water depth is relatively shallow (< 16 m). We investigated the spatial and temporal variations of dissolved oxygen (DO) and physical properties such as water temperature, salinity and turbidity to elucidate the effects of change in physical properties on DO dynamics in the lake. Vertical profiles of DO, temperature, salinity, and water density were also explored to verify the development of stratification in relation to DO variation in the water column. Hypoxia (DO < $2mg\;L^{-1}$) was not observed in the upper regions whereas hypoxia was detected in the lower regions during the warm season. Thermocline generally developed in the lower regions during the warm season unlike the previous studies in which no thermocline was observed. However, water column was well mixed when freshwater water was discharged from the reservoir through the sluice gate of the dike. DO concentrations also decreased when halocline or pycnocline developed during the dry season suggesting that the vertical stratification of water column affects DO dynamics although the water depth is shallow in the Youngsan lake.

  • Chungcheongbuk-do can be said that it is not developed well because its surface accounts for 7.5% of Korea's whole land surface, and it accounts for 3.1% of population and main economical index from those of whole Korea. However, Chungcheongbuk-do should develop itself more by integrating of Cheongju-si and Cheongwon-gun, transfer of government facilities to Sejong city, and dispersing manufacturing companies of Seoul Metropolitan area. The factor which affects Chungcheongbuk-do's regional specialized industries is the distance from Cheongju-si and Gyeonggi-do. Service industries are specialized in urban area; manufacturing industries are specialized in regions which are close to Cheongju-si or Gyeonggi-do; and primary industries and consumer service industries are specialized in areas that is far from Cheongju-si. This study can be a foundation for studies on regional and industrial change of Chungcheongbuk-do by looking at its population and location quotient.

  • Controlling the dissolved oxygen (DO) in the fed-batch culture of the medicinal mushroom Ganoderma lucidum led to a 2-fold increase of the maximum biomass productivity compared with uncontrolled DO conditions. By contrast, extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) production was two times higher under oxygen limitation (uncontrolled DO) than under increased oxygen availability (controlled DO). Morphologically, dispersed mycelium was predominant under controlled DO conditions, with highly branched hyphae, consistent with the enhanced culture growth noted under these conditions, whereas in the uncontrolled DO process mycelial clumps were the most common morphology throughout the culture. However, in both cultures, clamp connections were found. This is an exciting new finding, which widens the applicability of this basidiomycete in submerged fermentation. In rheological terms, broths demonstrated shear-thinning behavior with a yield stress under both DO conditions. The flow curves were best described by the Herschel-Bulkley model: flow index down to 0.6 and consistency coefficient up to 0.2 and 0.6 Pa $s^n$ in uncontrolled and controlled cultures DO, respectively. The pseudoplastic behavior was entirely due to the fungal biomass, and not to the presence of EPS (rheological analysis of the filtered broth showed Newtonian behavior). It is clear from this study that dissolved oxygen tension is a critical process parameter that distinctly influences G. lucidum morphology and rheology, affecting the overall performance of the process. This study contributes to an improved understanding of the process physiology of submerged fermentation of G. lucidum.

  • In this study, simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) from synthetic wastewater were performed to evaluate dissolved oxygen(DO) effects on chemical oxygen demand(COD) and nitrogen removal in a single membarne bio-reactor(MBR). DO levels in MBR at Run 1, 2, and 3 were 1.9~2.2, 1.3~1.6, and 0.7~1.0 mg/L, respectively. Experimental results indicated that DO had an important factor to affect COD and total nitrogen(TN) removal. SND were able to be accomplished in the continuous-aeration MBR by controlling ambient DO concentration. It is postulated that, because of the oxygen diffusion limitation, an anoxic micro-zone was formed inside the flocs where the denitrification might occur. From the results of this study, 96% of COD could be removed at DO of 0.7mg/L. At run 2 72.92% of nitrogen was removed by the mechanisms of SND (7.75mg-TN/L in effluent). In this study, SND was successfully occurred in a MBR due to high MLSS that could help to form anoxic zone inside microbial floc at bulk DO concentrations of 1.3~1.6mg/L.

  • With the development of information technology, Small office Home office(SOHO) is picking up. SOHO generally uses Wi-Fi. The wireless LAN environment using 802.11 protocol is easily affected by DoS attacks. To deal with these threats, there is Wireless Intrusion Detection System(WIDS). However, legacy products of WIDS cannot be easily used by SOHO because they are expensive and require management burden. In this paper, Smart WIDS for SOHO is proposed and implemented on Raspberry Pi2. And, it provides the interface for attack detection notice to android smart phone. Smart WIDS detects Masquerading DoS and Resource Depletion DoS based on IEEE 802.11 so that we notice the attempt of cracking Pre-shared Key(PSK), Man-In-The-Middle(MITM), and service failure.

  • Fishery production of topshell in Cheju-do has been rapidly decreased in the last few years. To investigate the origin of this problem and estimate maximum sustainable yield (MSY) and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of topshell in Cheju-do, a survey has been done ysing the statistical data for 19 years (1968-1986) of topshell production in Cheju-do and data for 3 yea.5 (1984-1986) from an fishery village, Tonggui-ri, Pukcheju-gun, Cheju-do. Maximum sustainable yield of topshell in Cheju-do assumed to be 2,500-2,800 metric tons(M/T) per year. The annual fishery productions of topshell from 1982 to 1986 were 3,368, 3,649, 3,308, 3,136, and 1,400 M/T, respectively. These results show that topshell had been over-fished during 1982 to 1985. Because of the over-fishing, production sharply decreased down to 1,400 M/T in 1986. Total annual production of topshell in Tonggui-ri is a little less than one Percent of that of Cheju-do. To achieve this production, over the half of resistered diving women in this village have been worked. To estimate catch per unit effort of topshell in Cheju-do, it seems better to use the data which is the number of diving women who have been worked for certain period of time than the number of working days in the same period of time.

  • Prostaglandins are synthesized by the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX). Both constitutive (COX-1) and inducible (COX-2) isoforms have been identified. COX-2 expression is stimulated by inflammatory mediators such as growth factors and cytokines. Most non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) inhibit both isoforms of COX. Recent evidence suggests that selective inhibitors of COX-2 may possess diminished side effects reletive to common NSAIDS. Novel isothiazoles and isoxazoles were identified as selective inhibitiors of cycloxygenase-2(COX-2). (omitted)

  • Purpose: This study purposed to analyze the spatial accessibility of mental health institutions in Ganwon-Do using Geographic Information System and to suggest policy implications. Methodology: Network analysis was applied to assess the spatial accessibility of mental health institutions in Gangwon-Do. To perform the network analysis, network data set was built using administrative district map, road network, address of mental health institutions in Gangwon-Do. After building network data set, Two network analysis methods, 1) Service area analysis, 2) Origin Destination cost matrix were applied. Service area analysis calculated accessive areas that were within specified time. And using Origin Destination cost matrix, travel time and road travel distance were calculated between centroids of Eup, Myeon, Dong and the nearest mental health institutions. Result: After the service area analysis, it is estimated that 19.63% of the total areas in Gangwon-Do takes more than 60 minutes to get to clinic institutions. For hospital institutions, 23.08% of the total areas takes more than 60 minutes to get there. And 59.96% of Gangwon-do takes more than 30 minutes to get to general hospitals. The result of Origin-Destination cost matrix showed that most Eup Myeon Dong in Gangwon-Do was connected to the institutions in Wonju-si, Chuncheon-si, Gangneung-si. And it showed that there were large regional variation in time and distance to reach the institutions. Implication: Results showed that there were regional variations of spatial accessibility to the mental health institutions in Gangwon-Do. To solve this problem, Several policy interventions could be applied such as mental health resources allocation plan, telemedicine, providing more closely coordinated services between mental health institutions and community mental health centers to enhance the accessibility.
