Design and Implementation of DMB Device Driver based on the Windows CE 5.0 (Windows CE 5.0 기반의 DMB 디바이스 드라이버 설계 및 구현)

  • Recently, as the demand of mobile multimedia devices increases and T-DMB is started in Korea, the need of research for integration of mobile devices such as cellular phone, navigation, and portable multimedia player becomes higher. In order to integrate mobile devices, it is necessary to support microprocessor with fast speed and various devices with multimedia service. In this paper, we construct Windows CE 5.0 platform whose BSP supports the embedded system board with ARM11 core and various devices and applications. We also implement the DMB device driver which supports busy waiting and interrupt driven I/O techniques, compare their performance, and then suggest the method to efficiently use the resources of embedded system.

  • In this paper refer to the digital multimedia mobile phone with the combination of broadcasting and the communication the unity of wire and wireless solution that can provide the UMA(Unlicensed Mobile Access) function is added. In UNC(Universal Naming Convention) in the case of CAS(Conditional Access System) is supported, the device(mobile phone) is authenticated through AP and then following the method of broadcasting signal the user can view the wanted contents as long as they want and for this matter the service charge system are proposed.

  • The recent developments of audio/video technology in the ubiquitous media have resulted in a variety of formal feature such as screen sizes for media and the new viewing environment can alter television viewers' experience of mediated communication. So the concern about formal feature of media itself is increasing in the recent media effects studies. From this point of view, this study is conducted to test the effect of the different monitor size of DMB Phone(2'1"), PMP(4'3") and PC monitor(19') on the viewers' memory and emotion of content by experimental research. The results showed that the effect by monitor size on the view's memory and emotion is significant. And watching moving image on a bigger monitor resulted in better memory of visual message elements contained in the content and more favorable emotion of the content.

Effects of Cognitive Focus and Affective Focus on Attitude and Buying Intention in DMB Cellular Phone Purchasing (인지초점과 감정초점이 DMB 휴대폰에 대한 태도와 구매의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study investigated the effects of focus on consumers' attitudes and buying intentions. For these purposes, researcher compare the attitudes and buying intentions by focus groups after presenting cognitive and affective product informations about a cellular-phone. The results of present experiment were as follow: First, cognitive focus led to highest cognitive attitude and affective focus also led to highest affective attitude. Second, It was highest buying intention in an affective focus and lowest in a non-focus. Third, a cognitive focus resulted in more cognitive words being recalled, by comparison with an affective focus, whereas an affective focus resulted in more affective words being recalled, by comparison with a cognitive focus. But they were not significant. These results show that cognitive and affective focuses lead to different attitudes that differ in their basis. An attitude formed in an affective focus results in a stronger buying intention than an attitude formed in an cognitive focus. The present findings also suggest that the different focus conditions result in different attitudes and buying intentions being formed, and to be diluting but to more enduring effects.

Implementation of Quadrifilar Helical Antenna Using Phase Difference with PCB Feeding Line (PCB 피딩 라인에 의한 위상차를 이용한 Quadrifilar Helical Antenna의 제작)

  • Gap fillar antennas are needed for serving the high quality of DMB through the cellular phone by eliminating the shadow regions among buildings or underground. We implement Quadrifilar Helical Antenna using phase difference with PCB feeding lines without coaxial cables and four impedance matching circuits. It is shown that the antenna characteristics is affected by the size and diameter through the simulation process using MicroWave Studio and it is applied for implementing QHA. Experiment results confirm that the performance can be gained as same as the simulation data by using the phase difference with PCB feeding lines without additional impedance matching circuits.

  • In this paper, development of embedded system based on Windows CE 5.0 which released recently is studied. Embedded softwares for the target board using S3C2410A SOC based on ARM920T core are composed of (1) BSP(Board Support Package) contains an OAL(OEM Adaptation Layer) which includes a boot loader for initializing and customizing target hardware, device drivers, and a corresponding set of configuration files (2) Windows CE 5.0 kernel (3) SDK and MP3 test application. Particularly, PB(Platform Builder) provides the efficient functions to build, test and debug the BSP and CE kernel. It is looked forward to being widely spread that Windows CE 5.0 will be utilized at smart devices such as PMP, CNS and DMB phone which inevitably require a display device.

  • The era of convergence is being applied to all areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The convergence of broadcasting service and communication service almost occurs on smart devices including smartphone. The smart hybrid Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is a typical example of the convergence of broadcasting and wireless communication service. The hybrid mobile broadcasting service can support seamless video, 3D, high quality, and additional data services based on network connection between the broadcasting and wireless network. The gateway and terminal (including apps on the smartphone) take the role of the main components on the hybrid service. This paper presents the service concept, main components structure, the implementation of gateway and terminals, and field test to the urban areas for the mobile hybrid system.

  • Middleware for mobile devices, embedded middleware, is used for mobile devices, cellular phone and DMB related services. It is essential for middleware providers to provide high quality middleware in conformity with its standard and interoperability on hardware platforms. The standard conformance and interoperability of embedded middleware are the key factors to make service providers succeed in their business. The quality of embedded middleware could be secured when Tests for the standard conformance and interoperability of embedded middleware are performed with well established test framework. In this paper, we describe middleware testing methodology of standard conformance, interoperability and middleware test framework for mobile devices.

  • In this Paper, we analyze the application of Interactive Data Broadcasting in DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) in the accordance with convergence of service and technology. With the acceleration of digital convergence in the Ubiquitous period substantial development of digital media technology and convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication industry are being witnessed. Consequently these results gave rise to newly combined-products such as DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), WCDMA(Wide-band code division multiple access), Wibro(Wireless Broadband Internet), IP-TV (Internet protocol TV) and HSDPA(High speed downlink packet access). The preparatory stage for the implementation of Interactive Data Broadcasting Service will be reached by the end of December, 2006. DMB is the first result of a successful convergence service between Broadcasting and Telecommunication in new media era. Multimedia technology and services are the core elements of DMB. The Data Broadcasting will not only offer various services of interactive information such News, Weather, Broadcasting Program etc, but also be linked with characteristic function of mobile phone such as calling and SMS(Short Message Service) via Return Channel.
