The Effect of DISC Behavioral Style on Nursing Student's Knowledge and Clinical Performance (간호대학생의 DISC 행동유형이 지식과 임상수행능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of DISC behavioral style on the knowledge and clinical performance of nursing students. The subjects of the study were nursing students in the fourth grade of university and the data collection period was from March 2015 to December 2016. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 24.0. DISC behavioral style analysis showed that 10.6% were dominant, 33.8% were influence, and 48.5% were steadiness and 7.1% were conscientiousness. Knowledge score in accordance with the measured points of DISC behavioral style did not show differences in the first, but did show differences in the second and third. Conversely, clinical performance score in accordance with the measurement points of DISC behavioral style showed differences in the first, second and third.Knowledge and clinical performance scores revealed significant differences in the interactions between the groups, between measurement points and between groups and measurement points. As a result, DISC behavioral style of nursing college students vary, with each having merits and demerits. Therefore, it is necessary to provide an opportunity to understand these points and to develop merits in order to improve the learning outcomes of the curriculum.

  • This Study aims to examine the differences in stress arising from clinical fieldwork of some of the students of occupational therapy department in accordance with the DISC behavioral style and the differences in the coping strategy. It is to provide basic data for the presentation of means of coping with stress that can occur at the time of clinical fieldwork in accordance with the behavioral styles of the students. As the results of the study, it was found that there are differences in the detailed items of clinical fieldwork stress in accordance with the DISC behavioral styles and differences in the strategy for copying with stress in accordance with the DISC behavioral styles. Therefore, there is a need to develop manual for fieldwork instructions and consultations in order for the students of occupational therapy department to cope with the clinical fieldwork stress at the time of clinical fieldwork by considering the behavioral styles of the students through additional researches in the future on the basis of aforementioned results of the study.

Impact of DISC Behavioral Styles on Job Satisfaction and Clinical Competencies among Newly Hired Nurses (신규간호사의 DISC 행동유형이 직무만족과 업무수행능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: In this study, behavioral styles of Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness (DISC) were examined and differences in job satisfaction and clinical competence among newly hired nurses were explored. Methods: For this explanatory correlational research, 176 newly hired clinical nurses were recruited from three university hospitals and one general hospital located in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Data were collected in August, 2013 though self-report questionnaires. Results: The distribution of behavioral styles was 11.4%, 42%, 29% and 17.6% for Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness respectively. DISC behavioral styles were associated with sub-areas of job satisfaction such as professional position and doctor-nurse relationship. DISC behavioral styles were significantly associated with the total score for clinical competence and sub-areas of data collection, basic nursing skills, critical thinking, education and leadership, and attitudes toward professional development and practical skills. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that DISC behavioral styles predicted clinical competence (Adj. $R^2$=.14, F=9.42, p<.001). Conclusion: A focus on cultivating influential and steady behavioral styles among newly hired nurses can be helpful in improving job satisfaction and clinical competence. There is a need to improve interpersonal relationships through a deeper understanding of each person's behavioral style based on the analysis of DISC behavioral styles.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyzing the DISC behavioral styles of deluxe hotel employees, that Dominance(D), Influence(I), Steadiness(S), Consciousness(C) on the organizational culture and the organizational effectiveness of the hotel employees and is to presenting the influence of DISC behavioral patterns on the organizational culture and the organizational effectiveness. To accomplish the aim, the study conducted literature investigations and positive analysis. The results were as in the followings. Employees with a dominant and influencing behavior style adapt themselves to innovative culture and collusive culture. also, organizational commitment and job satisfaction were affected by dominant and influencing behavioral employees. and employees with a steady style adapt themselves to rationality culture. so, organizational commitment and job satisfaction were affected by steady style. furthermore, the result shows that it can be reduced turnover rate when the conscious behavioral employees adapt to the collusive culture. Customer's needs and wants are changed fastly. In addition, there is a keen competition between a five-star hotel. Because the number of five-star hotel are increased. Lastly I suggest that the DISC behavioral style is using at recruit.

Stress of Clinical Practice and Mental Health According to DISC Behavioral Styles in Nursing University Students (간호대학생의 DISC 행동유형에 따른 임상실습스트레스와 정신건강)

  • Background: Many nursing university students were stressed during clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to identify the difference between stress of clinical practice and mental health according to behavioral styles in nursing university students. Methods: The participants of this study were 233 junior and senior nursing students who had experienced clinical practice. Data were collected by self-report questionnaires in online from November 2017 to March 2018. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 25.0 using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The most frequent DISC behavior style of the subjects was conscientiousness (43.8%), follewed by steadiness (19.7%), influence (18.9%), and dominance (17.6%). The participants'scores for stress of clinical practice and mental health were $3.35{\pm}0.55$ and $1.13{\pm}0.65$. The stress of clinical practice of the subjects was different according to DISC behavior styles(F=2.86, p=.038). The results show that the higher the score of stress of clinical practice was the higher the score of mental health(r=.51, p<.001). Conclusion: This study found that the difference of DISC behavioral styles can be attributed to stress of clinical practice. Therefore, nursing intervention program considering with the subjects'DISC behavior styles needs to be developed to reduce their stress of clinical practice.

DICS Behavior Pattern and Medication Errors by Nurses (간호사의 DICS 행동유형과 투약오류)

  • Purpose: Human factor is one of the major causes of medication errors. The purpose of this study was to identify nurses' perception and experience of medication errors, examine the relationship of Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness (DISC) behavior patterns and medication errors by nurses. Methods: A descriptive survey design with a convenience sampling was used. Data collection was done using self-report questionnaires answered by 308 nurses from one university hospital and two general hospitals. Results: The most frequent DISC behavioral style of nurses was influence style (41.9%), followed by steadiness style (23.7%), conscientiousness style (20.4%), and dominance style (14.0%). Differences in the perception and experience level of medication errors by nurses' behavioral pattern were not statistically significant. However, nurses with conscientiousness style had the lowest scores for in experience of medication errors and the highest scores for perception of medication errors. Conclusion: The results of this study show that identification of the behavior pattern of nurses and application of this education program can prevent medication errors by nurses in hospitals.

The difference of DISC Behavioral Style on Nursing Student's Clinical Performance (간호대학생의 DISC행동유형에 따른 임상수행능력 차이)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생이 성공적으로 임상실습을 경험하여 전문역량을 갖춘 전문인으로서 성장하기 위해 간호대학생의 DISC 행동유형에 따른 임상수행능력을 파악하고자 시도된 서술적 조사연구이다. 연구 대상자는 G도 J시 소재 J대학의 간호학과 4학년 학생들이다. 자료수집 기간은 2018년 11월 5일부터 11월 9일까지였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 18.0을 이용하여 분석항 결과 대상자의 DISC 행동유형별 임상수행능력 하위 영역별 살펴보면 간호과정은 D형(주도형) $3.67{\pm}0.43$, C형(신중형) $3.66{\pm}0.40$, I형(사교형) $3.61{\pm}0.47$, S형(안정형) $3.55{\pm}0.43$의 순으로 유의한 차이가 나타났고(F=4.03, p=.005), 간호기술은 D형(주도형) $4.03{\pm}0.45$, C형(신중형) $4.02{\pm}0.41$, I형(사교형) $4.01{\pm}0.47$, S형(안정형) $3.91{\pm}0.37$의 순으로 유의한 차이가 나타났으며(F=5.07, p=.001), 전문직 발전영역은 D형(주도형) $3.77{\pm}0.47$, I형(사교형) $3.61{\pm}0.53$, C형(신중형) $3.60{\pm}0.37$, S형(안정형) $3.56{\pm}0.49$의 순으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다(F=5.07, p=.001). 이상의 결과로 간호대학생의 다양성을 이해하고 강점을 개발할 수 있는 기회를 제공해야 할 것이다.
