  • An analysis refinement of the Messina Strait suspension bridge project has been recently required, concerning mainly the yaw angle effects on the multi-box deck section aerodynamics and the vortex shedding at low reduced velocities $V^*$. In particular the possible interaction of the axial flow with the large cross beams has been investigated. An original test rig has been designed at this purpose allowing for both forced motion and free motion aero elastic tests, varying the average angle of attack ${\alpha}$ and the deck yaw angle ${\beta}$. The hydraulic driven test rig allowed for both dynamic and stationary tests so that both the stationary coefficients and the flutter derivatives have been evaluated for each yaw angle. Specific free motion tests, taking advantage from the aeroelastic features of the section model, allowed also the study of the vortex shedding induced phenomena.

  • This paper presents F.E.M. analysis result about the behavior of R.C. beam repaired with steel plate and fiber sheet. The effect of repairing varies with reinforcement ratio of R.C. beam, plate thickness, numbers of fiber sheet, and repairing length, etc. F.E.M. analysis using a program, DIANA, was carried out taking these factors as parameter in this study. Analysis result shows that repaired R.C. beam behaves differently according to parameters and certain cases imply that repairing is useless or may lay structure in dangerous condition. F.E.M. model considers that interfacial behavior between different two parts of repaired beam is rigid based on an assumption that adhesive failure does not appear before yielding of reinforcement and its analysis shows the result coincides with that of experiment.

  • Strengthening by bonded CFRP sheet/plate onto the surface has been generally used for the R.C. beams. The strengthening efficiency of this system depends on the performance of the adhesive interlace between the beam and the CFRP, and the interlace often causes unexpected failure. In this paper, an unbonding system is proposed with prestressed CFRP. Finite element analysis has been conducted using DIANA for the R.C. beams strengthened by prestressing the unbonded CFRP plate. The results of analysis were compared with those of experiment.

  • Exterior beam-column joints are structural elements that ensure connection between beams and columns. The joint strength is generally assumed to be governed by the structural element of lowest load capacity (beam or column), however, the joint may be the weakest link. The joint shear behavior is still not well understood due to the influence of several variables, such as geometry of the connection, stress level in the column, concrete strength and longitudinal beam reinforcement. A parametrical study based only on experiments would be impracticable and not necessarily exposes the failure mechanisms. This paper reports on a set of numerical simulations conducted in DIANA$^{(R)}$ software for the investigation of the shear strength of exterior joints. The geometry of the joints and stress level on the column are the variables evaluated. Results have led to empirical expressions that provide the shear strength of unreinforced exterior beam-column joints.

  • Bats are an important reservoir of several zoonotic diseases. However, the circulation of bat coronaviruses (BatCoV) in live animal markets in Indonesia has not been reported. Genetic characterization of BatCoV was performed by sequencing partial RdRp genes. Real-time polymerase chain reaction based on nucleocapsid protein (N) gene and Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay against the N protein were conducted to detect the presence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) viral RNA and antibody, respectively. We identified the presence of BatCoV on Cynopterus brachyotis, Macroglossus minimus, and Rousettus amplexicaudatus. The results showed that the BatCoV included in this study are from an unclassified coronavirus group. Notably, SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA and antibodies were not detected in the sampled bats.

  • Purpose: This research aims to analyze the influence of relational penetration capability on salesperson performance and the influence of customer orientation, customer knowledge accessibility, and salesperson-customer relationship quality on the relational penetration capability of the insurance service industry in Central Java. Research design, data, and methodology: This explanatory research involved 211 respondents. Path analysis was used to analyze the primary data obtained. Results: The customer orientation positively influences relational penetration capability and customer knowledge accessibility which can improve salesperson performance. The salesperson-customer relationship quality shows a positive impact on the salesperson's relational penetration capability, salesperson performance, and relational penetration capability which will lead to an improved salesperson-customer relationship. Higher knowledge levels of customer necessity have important implications for a salesperson's capability of finding potential customers and of fulfilling customers' requirements through careful analysis of necessity. Conclusions: The salespeople should be capable of building and maintaining a good relationship with their customers as an indication that salespeople of Insurance Service Company Distribution in Central Java have good performance.

  • With increasing traffic volumes and rising vehicle traffic, especially in cities, the number of pedestrian bridges has also increased significantly. Like all other structures, pedestrian bridges also suffer damage. In order to increase the safety of pedestrians, it is necessary to identify existing damage and to repair them to ensure the safety of the bridge structures. Owing to the shortcomings of local methods in identifying damage and in order to enhance the reliability of detection and identification of structural faults, signal methods have seen significant development in recent years. In this research, a new methodology, based on cone-shaped kernel distribution with a new damage index, has been used for damage detection in pedestrian truss bridges. To evaluate the proposed method, the numerical models of the Warren Type steel truss and the Arregar steel footbridge were used. Based on the results, the proposed method and damage index identified the damage and determined its location with a high degree of precision. Given the ease of use, the proposed method can be used to identify faults in pedestrian bridges.

  • The formulas offered so far on the settlement of raft footings provide only a rough estimate of the actual settlement. One of the best ways to make an accurate estimation is to conduct 3-dimensional finite element analyses. However, the required procedure for these analyses is comparatively cumbersome and expensive and needs a bit more expertise. In order to address this issue, in this study, a raft footing settlement formula was developed based on ninety finite element model configurations. The formula was derived using multi-parameter exponential regression analyses. The settlement formula incorporates the dimensions and the elastic modulus of a rectangular raft, vertical uniform pressure and soil moduli and Poisson's ratios up to 5 layers. In addition to this, an equation was offered for the estimation of average deflection of the raft. The proposed formula was checked against 3 well-documented case studies. The formula that is derived from 3D finite element analyses is useful in optimising the raft properties.

  • The study aims to explore the use of metadiscourse in the Bank Negara Malaysia Governor's speeches based on Hyland's Interpersonal Model of Metadiscourse. The corpus data consist of 343 speech texts, which were extracted from the Malaysian Corpus of Financial English (MacFE), amounting to 688,778 tokens. Adopting both quantitative and qualitative approaches to data analysis the study investigates (1) the overall use of metadiscourse in the Bank Negara Governor's speech texts and (2) the functions of the most prominent metadiscourse resources used and their functions in the speech texts. The findings reveal that the Governor's speech texts to be interactional rather than interactive, revealing a rich distribution of interactional metadiscourse resources, namely engagement markers, self-mention, hedges, boosters and attitude markers throughout the texts. The interactional metadiscourse resources function to establish speaker-audience engagement and alignment of views, as well as to express degree of uncertainty and certainty and attitudes. The study concludes that the speech texts are not merely informational or propositional, but rather interpersonal.

  • Developing smart cities increasingly relies on metaverse technology. This has become much more apparent in the post-COVID-19 pandemic urban environment. The demand for fast processing of huge amounts of data and the convergence of various media types is essential for keeping city residents well-informed and safe. This paper builds on recent research on metaverse, smart cities, and digital outdoor advertising media. It proposes that "space culture media", which collectively functions by using physical or virtual spatial information, will play a key role in the smart city, functioning as an augmented city. Specifically, this paper deals with significant issues related to the smart city changes created by tecoration, a metaverse urban media space facilitated and enhanced through digital outdoor advertising.
