  • This paper describes retail cost through scenario in the ratio of CG(Centralized Generation) and DG(Decentralized Generation) that constructs new generation capacity in the future. it is not calculated for the supply, but for demand considering an advantage of DG. In the Korea Power System, retail cost that composed of construction, T&D, fuel, maintenance and environment shows macro-trend that power system planning through penetration for DG will be more significant.

  • As Decentralized Generation(DG) becomes more reliable and economically feasible, it is expected that a higher application of DG units would be interconnected to the existing grids. This new market penetration of DG technologies is linked to a large number of factors like technologies costs and performances, interconnection issues, safety, market regulations, environmental issues or grid connection constrains. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has researched performance characteristics of the 60k W class 1) basic start-up & shutdown operation analysis 2) interconnection test 3) MGT -absorption chiller-heater system in the local condition. Variations of heat recovery from exhaust gas has measured according to micro gas turbine output of 15, 30, 45, 60kW. From those results, the performance of the MGT-absorption chiller/heater system has been evaluated. The suggested strategy and experience for the evaluation of the distributed generation will be used for the introduction of other distributed generation technologies into the grid in the future.

This paper describes the procedures and results for the mechanical, electrical, and environmental tests of MGT on actual grid-connection under Korean regulations. As one of the achievements, the simulation model of MGT was developed, so that it will be able to analyze or propose new distributed generation system using MGT. The field test was conducted in order to respond to a wide variety of needs for noise reduction and utilization and its performance was evaluated in consideration of its operational problems. The MGT is successfully supplying electricity to Korean grids with satisfying various regulations. The suggested strategy and experience for the evaluation of the distributed generation will be used for the introduction of other distributed generation technologies into the grid in the future.

  • Interconnection of DG(Distributed Generation) into distribution systems and power quality are frequent subjects of discussion by distribution companies, regional electricity utilities and industrial customers. This situation makes many experts estimate a next generation of distribution systems which is composed of some micro-grids. But the proposed micor-grid is only mentioned as a small network with DG's, power quality compensators, communication and control equipments. In this paper, a decentralized coordination control algorithm of micro-grid which is able to supply the electric power with high reliability and quality, are proposed.

  • The cost incurred by voltage sag effect in power networks has always been of important concern for discussions. Due to the environmental constraints, fossil fuel shortage crisis and low efficiency of conventional power plants, decentralized generation and renewable based DG have become trends in recent decades; because DGs can reduce the voltage sag effect in distribution networks noticeably; therefore, optimum allocation of DGs in order to maximize their effectiveness is highly important in order to maximize their effectiveness. In this paper, a new method is proposed for calculating the cost incurred by voltage sag effect in power networks. Thus, a new objective function is provided that comprehends technical standards as minimization of the cost incurred by voltage sag effect, active power losses and economic criterion as the installation and maintenance costs of DGs. Considering operational constraints of the system, the optimum allocation of DGs is a constrained optimization problem in which Lightning Attachment procedure optimization (LAPO) is used to resolve it and is the optimum number, size and location of DGs are determined in IEEE 33 bus test system and IEEE 34 bus test system. The results show that optimum allocation of DGs not only reduces the cost incurred by voltage sag effect, but also improves the other characteristics of the system.

  • This paper presents development of the long and mid term power expansion planing for distributed generation. This planing model reflect WADE Economic Model's advantage that special quality of DG(Decentralized Generation) and WASP Model's advantage that special quality of CG(Centralized Generation) each other. Through these synergy, we develop better the Plan of Long and Mid Term Distributed Generation then existent model.

  • Cogeneration systems are seen as a significant innovation for dispersed energy generation since they are both environmentally friendly and has comparatively high degrees of efficiency. It is especially suited for the decentralized provision of electricity and heat. However, it causes operational problems such as voltage regulation, voltage variation, protection and safety. Especially, it is expected that the interconnection/disconnection operation of cogeneration system has an effect on distribution voltage regulation and variation. Recently, with the increased use of customer-owned computers and other sensitive electronic equipment, electric power quality has become an important concerns. Therefore, the voltage quality problems with cogeneration system should be investigated because the voltage quality is an important part of electrical power quality. In this paper, the momentary voltage dips associated with the interconnection/disconnection operation of cogeneration system are analyzed, including restraint solutions at the customer level. In addition, the unit capacity of cogeneration systems per feeder are evaluated from the view point of momentary voltage variations. The results of this paper are useful analysis data for interconnection standards/guidelines of cogeneration systems and dispersed generation (DG)
