Effect of Intermittent Feeding on Growth, Feed Utilization and Body Composition of Subadult Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus in Suboptimal Temperature

  • The effect of intermittent feeding on growth, feed utilization and body composition of subadult olive flounder fed extruded pellet (EP) in suboptimal temperature ($13.5{\pm}2.10^{\circ}C$) was determined. Two hundred twenty five subadult fish averaging 272 g were randomly distributed into fifteen of 300 L circular flow-through tanks (fifteen fish per tank). Five treatments with different days of feeding a week were prepared in triplicate: fish were hand-fed with EP to apparent satiation once a day, seven days a week (7DF), which was used as the control group or consecutive six, five, four and three days a week, for 12 weeks, referred to as 6DF, 5DF, 4DF and 3DF treatments, respectively. Weight gains and specific growth rates of fish in 6DF treatment were higher than those of fish in 7DF, 4DF and 3DF treatments, but not different from those of fish in 5DF treatment. Daily feed intake of fish in 6DF and 7DF treatments was higher than that of fish in 5DF, 4DF and 3DF treatments. Feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio of fish were not different among treatments. There was no difference in the chemical composition of fish between treatments. Results of this study demonstrated that feeding five days per week could be recommended for subadult olive flounder fed extruded pellet in suboptimal temperature.

Independent Inheritance between df2 gene and ti gene in Soybean

  • Dwarfuess and Kunitz trypsin inhibitor (KTI) protein in soybean is useful traits for basic studies. df2 and ti gene control dwarfness and the expression of Kunitz trypsin inhibitor (KTI) protein in soybean, respectively. The objective of this research was to verify genetic linkage or independent inheritance of df2 and ti loci in soybean. The $F_2$ population was made by cross combination between "Gaechuck#2" (Df2Df2titi genotype, KTI protein absence and a normal growth type) and T210 (df2df2TiTi genotype, a dwarf growth type and KTI protein present). A total of 258 $F_2$ seeds were analyzed for the segregation of KTI protein using SDS-PAGE. And so, 198 $F_2$ plants were recorded for the segregation of dwarfness. The segregation ratio of 3 : 1 for Ti locus (201 Ti_ : 57 titi) and Df2 locus (143 Df2_ : 55 df2df2) was observed. Segregation ratio of 9 : 3 : 3 : 1 (116 Ti_Df2_: 44 Ti_df2df2: 27 titiDf2_: 11 titidf2df2) between df2 gene and ti gene was observed ($x^2$=3.53, P = 0.223). These results showed that df2 gene was inherited independently with the ti gene in soybean.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a patient care standard which is the basis of unit based quality assurance. The subjects were 570 nurses of 6 hospitals is Seoul. Patient Care Standards were developed from 3 times of clinical Nurses Association's workshop & the joint meeting of Clinical Nurses Association & the Korean Nurses Academic Socity of Nursing Administration. Respondents were instructed to rate of the 2 types of 5 - point Likert type questionnaire(one is the level of perceived importance, the other is the level of actual performance) Findings of this study were as follows 1. As a results of reliability analysis, each questionnaire ranged from $\alpha$=0.79 to 0.94

    2. The Correlations between the levels of perceived importance & actual performances were ranged from r=.40 to 0.72(P=.00) 3.     • Objectives: This study was investigated the improvement effects of Pakistani Ephedra herba-containing Gangji-hwan-1, 2, 3 (Di-fatty; DF-1, 2, 3), Chinese Ephedra herba-containing Gangjihwan-4 (DF-4) and combination of DF-1 and Gamisoche-hwan (GSH) on obesity in a high fat diet-fed obese mouse model. Methods: Eight-week-old C57BL/6N mice were divided into seven groups: a normal lean group given a standard diet, an obese control group given a high fat diet, and DF-1, 2, 3, 4, and DF-1+GSH groups given a high fat diet with DF-1, 2, 3, 4 (40, 80, 160, 80 mg/kg), and DF-1+ GSH (80 mg/kg), respectively. After 8 weeks of treatment, body weight gain, feeding efficiency ratio (FER), blood lipid markers, liver histology, and fat weight and histology were examined. Results: Body weight gain was significantly decreased in DF and DF-1+GSH groups compared with control. The extent of decreases was eminent in DF-1+GSH group. FER and circulating concentration of leptin were decreased in DF and DF-1+GSH groups compared with control. Circulating concentrations of triglyceride, glucose and insulin were decreased in DF and DF-1+GSH groups compared with control. The size of adipocytes were decreased by DF and DF-1+GSH groups compared with control, whereas the adipocyte number per unit area was increased by them, suggesting that DF and DF-1+GSH groups decreased the number of large adipocytes. Conclusions: In conclusion, these results suggest that DF and DF-1+GSH groups decrease FER, plasma leptin concentration, blood anti-obesity biomarkers and fat mass, improves body weight gain. In addition, these effects were more effective in DF-1+GSH combination group than in DF-1, 2, 3, 4 groups.

    • In this paper a fixed-delay trellis search with decision feedback (FDTrS/DF) for high-density DVD systems (4.7-15GB) is proposed and implemented with FPGA. The proposed FDTrS/DF is derived by transforming the binary tree search structure into trellis search structure implying that FDTrS/DF performs better than the singnal detection techniques based on tree search structure such as FDTS/DF and SSD/DF. Advantages of FDTrS/DF are significant reductions in hardware complexity due to the unique structure of FDTrS composed of only one trellis stage requiring no traceback procedure usually implemented in the Viterbi detector. Also in this paper the PDFS/DF and SSD/DF orginally proposed for high-density magnetic recording systems are modified for the DVD system and compared with the proposed FDTrS/DF. In order to increase speed in the FPGA implementation the pipelining technique and absolute branch metric (instead of square branch metric) are applied. The proposed FDTrS/DF is shown to provide the best performance among various signal detection techniques such as PRML, DFE, FDTS/DF and SSD/DF even with a small hardware complexity.

    The Effects of Different Feeding Strategies on the Growth of Young Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus L., in a Freshwater Recirculating System during Summer

    • We evaluated the effects of different feeding strategies on the growth of young Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus L., in a freshwater recirculating system during summer. Each of twenty fish (Mean body weight$\pm$ SD; 37. 7$\pm$0.10 g) were randomly distributed into each of 24 tanks. Eight treatments were prepared in triplicate. Control fish were hand-fed commercial feed twice daily without starvation. The other seven treatments employed different feeding and starvation strategies ranging from I day starved and 1 day fed (1DS+ 1DF) to 7 days starved to 7 days fed (7DS+7DF). All fish survived to the end of the 44-day feeding trial. The amount of food supplied was highest for the control fish in the control. Food supplied to fish in the 3DS+3DF and 4DS+4DF treatments was significantly lower than that of fish in the 1DS+1DF and 2DS+2DF treatments, but significantly higher than that of fish in the 5DS+5DF, 6DS+6DF and 7DS+7DF treatments. The weight gain of control fish was significantly higher than that of fish in other treatments. Feed efficiency ratio (FER) for fish in the 7DS+7DF treatment was significantly higher than that of fish in the control group, but it did not differ from that of fish in the 1DS+1DF and 2DS+2DF treatments. We concluded that young Nile tilapia raised with different starvation and feeding regimes during the summer in a freshwater recirculating system did not catch up in growth to fish fed daily. However, the enhanced FER of Nile tilapia in the 7DS+ 7DF, 2DS+ 2DF, and 1 DS+ I DF treatments partly explains the compensatory growth of the fish, although their weight gain was relatively low.

    • HF와 DF 혼합계내에서 일어나는 다음 두 진동-진동 에너지 이동 반응의 속도상수$(k_{vv})$를 n=2~5에 대해 300~800K 온도 범위에서 이론적으로 계산하였다. HF(v=n) + DF(v=0) ${\to}$ HF(v=n-l) + DF(v=l) + ${\Delta}E$(a) DF(v=n) + HF(v=0) ${\to}$ DF(v=n-l) + HF(v=l) + ${\Delta}E$(b) 이용한 충돌모형은 수소결합에너지를 분자간 상호작용의 주축으로 삼는 loosely-held, non-rigid dimer model이었고, 계산법으로는 반고전적 방법을 사용하였다. 계산 결과 반응(a)에 대한 속도상수가 반응(b)에 대한 속도상수 보다 훨씬 HF-DF 혼합계 내에서는 진동에너지가 HF에서 DF로 이동함이, 또한 반응(a)에 대한 속도 상수는 온도가 높아질 수록 감소하고, 진동 양자수가 커질 수록 증가하는 반면에, 반응 (b)에 대한 속도 상수는 온도 의존성과 양자수 의존성에 있어서 대체로 이와 반대의 경향을 보임을 밝혔으며, 이 계산 결과는 주로 에너지 차 ${\Delta}E$의 부호와 크기로써 설명될 수 있음을 보였다.

    • Objectives : This study investigated the improvement effects of Pakistani (DF-a) and Chinese Ephedra herba-containing Gangjihwan (DF-b) on obesity in a high fat diet-fed obese mouse model. Methods : Eight-week-old C57BL/6N mice were divided into four groups: a normal lean group given a standard diet, an obese control group given a high fat diet, and DF-a and DF-b groups given a high fat diet with DF-a (80 mg/kg), and DF-b (80 mg/kg), respectively. After 8 weeks of treatment, body weight gain, feeding efficiency ratio, blood lipid markers, fat weight and histology were examined. Results : 1. Body weight gain and fat mass were significantly decreased in DF-a and DF-b groups compared with control. The extent of decreases was eminent in DF-a group. 2. Feeding efficiency ratio and circulating leptin concentration were significantly decreased in DF-a and DF-b groups compared with control, whereas circulating adiponectin concentration was increased in DF-a and DF-b groups compared with control. 3. Consistent with their effects on body weight gain and fat mass, circulating concentrations of triglyceride, glucose and insulin were decreased in DF-a and DF-b groups compared with control. 4. The size of adipocytes were decreased by DF-a and DF-b compared with control, whereas the adipocyte number per unit area was increased by them, suggesting that DF-a and DF-b decreased the number of large adipocytes. 5. Consistent with their effects on body weight gain, liver fibrosis was reduced in DF-a and DF-b groups compared with control. Conclusions : In conclusion, these results suggest that DF-a and DF-b not only decrease feeding efficiency ratio, plasma leptin concentration, and blood anti-obesity biomarkers, but also reduce fat mass, contributing to the improvement of obesity. DF-a and DF-b also inhibit liver fibrosis. In addition, these effects were similar between Pakistani Ephedra herba and Chinese Ephedra herba-containing Gangjihwan.

    한국인 식이섬유 섭취 상태의 연차적 추이 $(1991{\sim}2001)$ (Annual Changes in the Estimated Dietary Fiber Intake of Korean during $1991{\sim}2001$)

    • The present study determined the estimated dietary fiber (DF) intake per capita of Korean from 1991 to 2001 and analyzed the major food sources of dietary fiber for Korean using the data on per capita consumption of each food reported in the Korean National (Health and) Nutrition Survey Reports and the recently established DF database by the Korean Nutrition Society. The estimated mean daily DF intakes of Korean during the last 11 years $(1991{\sim}2001)$ were in the range of $19.25{\sim}21.22\;g\;or\;9.97{\sim}11.99\;g/1,000\;kcal$ with a small range of fluctuations. As of 2001, average DF intake per capita of Korean was estimated as 20.92 g or 10.59 g/1,000 kcal. The average DF intake level was under the Adequate Intake for DF (12 g per 1,000 kcal) of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for Koreans established in 2005. The level of DF intake was relatively lower in small city residents compared to the large city or rural area. The top two major food group sources of DF for Korean were vegetables and cereals, in addition, legumes, fruits, seaweeds and seasonings were included among top five food groups. The ratio of DF intake from fruits was gradually increased but the ratio from legumes was steadily decreased during the last 11 years. The mostly contributed single foods for DF intakes of Korean were Kimchi and rice regardless of year and area. Percentage of DF intake from top ten single foods was continuously decreased from 65% in 1991 to 51 % in 2001. The results of this study revealed that DF intakes of Korean as of 2001 is insufficient compared to the Adequate Intake for DF for Korean and the source of fiber in Korean diet has been more various. Therefore the beneficial health effects of DF and the increased consumption of DF from a variety of food sources should be continuously emphasized through the nutritional education.

    CFAST를 이용한 구획실 가스화재의 디자인 화재곡선 평가 (Evaluation of Design Fire Curves for Gas Fires in a Compartment Using CFAST)

    • 본 연구에서는 CFAST를 이용하여 구획실 가스연료 화재실험에 대한 디자인 화재곡선(Design fire curves, DF)의 예측성능을 평가하였다. 평가된 디자인 화재곡선은 이전의 연구에서 제안된 2-stage DF, Ingason이 제안한 Quadratic DF와 Exponential DF이며, 예측성능 평가를 위해 각 디자인 화재곡선을 CFAST의 입력조건으로 하여 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 시뮬레이션결과와 실험결과의 비교를 통해 구획실 내부의 공간평균온도와 $O_2$, $CO_2$ 농도에 대해 전반적으로 2-stage DF > Quadratic DF > Exponential DF 순으로 실험결과를 합리적으로 예측하는 것을 확인하였다. CFAST 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해서도 실험에서 보이는 구획실 내 개구부측과 내측에서의 온도와 $O_2$$CO_2$ 농도 차이를 예측할 수 없음을 명확히 확인하였다. 또한 CFAST는 구획실 가스연료 화재의 CO 농도와 하층부의 공간평균온도에 대한 예측에 한계가 있음을 확인하였다.
