  • The Cut off-type progressive die for U-bending production part is a very specific division. This study reveals the sheet metal forming process with multi-forming die by Center Carrier type feeding system. Through the FEM simulation by DEFORM, it was accepted to u-bending process as the first performance to design of strip process layout. The next process of die development was studied according to sequence of die development, i.e. die structure, machining condition for die making, die materials, heat treatment of die components, know-how and so on. The feature of this study is the die development of scrapless progressive die of multi-stage through the Modeling on the I-DEAS program, components drawing on the Auto-Lisp, CAD/CAM application, ordinary machine tool operating and revision by tryout.

  • This study is concerned with Finite Element Analysis on welded part of control link fur automobile. For analysis, control link was modeled into two parts, ring and rod. Heating condition, temperature distributions and fatigue fracture strength were analyzed using "HEAT III" and "NDURE" module of NISA II. Metal flow in the process of welding was simulat- ed by $DEFORM^{TM}2D$.The analyzed results were compared with experimental inspection. Quality of welded part was able to be improved by controlling metal flow in the process of welding by increase the friction constant of ring part. Heat transfer analysis and flow simulations were in good agreement wish welding experiments.

  • In this study, 3-point bending test for the mode I state and 4-point shear test for the mode II state were adopted to verify the crack initiation load level through comparing the test results of the acoustic emission and the ASTM testing criteria, using Jecheon granite, as the rock sample. The major result obtained in this study is that the crack initiation load levels obtained by using ASTM testing criteria and by measuring acoustic emissions showed analogous, roughly. However in case of demanding high safety, the crack initiation load level needs to be underestimated to the level that the crack begins to deform nonlinearly.

  • The response analysis of frame structure with open section beams considering warping conditions and short duration load have been performed. When a beam of frame structure is subjected under torsional moment, the cross section will deform a warping as well as twist. For some thin-walled sections warping will be large, and accompanying warping restraint will induce axial and shear stresses and reduce the twist of beam which stiffens the beam in torsion. Because of impact or blast loads, the wave propagation effects become increasingly important as load duration decreases. This paper presents that a warping restraint in finite element model effects the behavior of beam deformation, dynamic mode shape and response analysis. The computer modelling of frame is discussed in linear beam element model and linear thin shell element model, also presents a correlation between computer predicted and actual experimental results for static deflection, natural frequencies and mode shapes of frame. A method to estimate the number of normal modes that are important is discussed.

  • The shell body is the main exterior part of a compressor, and production of shell bodies has increased along with a growing demand for air conditioners, refrigerators, air compressors, and so on. Cracks frequently occur in the process of welding a shell body. In this study, a deep drawing process for creating a shell body from a blank is developed. The technique consists of a four-step deep drawing and a two-step trimming process. Analysis is performed by DEFORM software to examine the safety of the deep drawing and trimming processes. The deep drawing process for the shell body developed in this study would have wide application in many industrial fields.

  • In this study, we fabricated Bi-2223/Ag high temperature superconducting tapes using PIT (Powder-In-Tube) process to apply the superconducting magnet, cable and etc. It's inevitable to deform the superconducting tapes with axial strain for application. Therefore, for the characterization of the strain sensitivity of the superconducting properties, the degradation of Bi-2223/Ag tapes due to axial strain were investigated by measuring the critical current as a function of applied tension strain and external magnetic field. The critical current of Bi-2223/Ag tapes were decreased slightly up to 0.3∼0.4% applied strain but, drastically decreased more than these strains. Superconducting filament cores consisted of brittle ceramic fibers were broken easily by the large strain and current path were decreased simultaneously.

  • The purpose of this paper was to identify bonding strength by laundering methods(dry and wet) of the after laundering of the adhesive interlining. The results of this study were as fallows. 1.As laundery repeated it revealed that the bonding strength was decreased to some degree regardless of the kinds of face cloth, laundering methods & adhesive interlining. 2. Bonding strength of woven adhesive interlining after and before ironing is different by its weave: A1>A3>A2. 3. Bonding strength before cleaing is smaller than that after laundering with ironing. 4. As for laundering methods, while dry cleaning is excellent with little influence on bonding strength. It doesn't deform the shapes of dress, in cases of woven adhesive interlining.

  • In the stable eutectoid transformation of austenite in ductile cast iron, ferrite forms around the graphite spheroid. As carbon diffuses through the ferrite ring, the graphite spheroid must eularge and the ferrite ring must deform plastically to accomodate this growth. A model has been proposed to clarify this mechanism. The alloying effects of molybdenum, nickel and copper were studied in a series of heats cast into a range of casting section sizes. Regression analysis was used to illustrate the effects of alloying and cooling rate on the microstructure of ductile cast iron.

  • In the present study, the microstructural evolution and deformation behavior of AA 2014 aluminum alloys with different microstructures in a semi-solid state were investigated. For a given alloy, applied load and deformation time, the measured strain was higher at a higher temperature, indicative of a lower solid fraction. When a large proportion of the liquid was present as intragranular droplets, the alloy would not as easily deform because the effective liquid fraction between the solid grains had decreased. Greater deformation was achieved with higher grain boundary misorientations due to the enhanced wetting of the grain boundaries with liquid. A semi-empirical constitutive model is proposed for semi-solid deformation under the conditions in the present study. The mechanism of semi-solid deformation incorporates the initial flow of the liquid in the early stages of deformation, followed by a more gradual increase in the strain due to deformation by grain sliding accompanied by self-diffusion in the solid grains.

  • In this paper, finite element simulation of three-dimensional bulk metal forming processes is performed by an automated adaptive tetrahedral mesh generation scheme. A dynamic data exchange scheme is employed between tetrahedral mesh generator and forging simulator to minimize user intervention. Both number of elements and density distributions are controlled by the octree technique. The presented approach is applied to automatic forging simulation in order to evaluate the efficiency of the developed schemes and the simulation results are compared with $DEFORM^{TM}$.
