  • Formation and thermal stability of a quasicrystalline phases in Al-Fe-Mo alloys were investigated by means of melt-spinning process and subsequent heat treatment test. Thermal decomposition and phase transformation process of the as-spun alloys were studied using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The melt-spun Al-Fe-Mo alloys contained an icosahedral quasicrystalline phase with a quasilattice constant of 0.457 nm. Icosahedral phase formed at a composition of $Al_{82.5}Fe_{14}Mo_{3.5}$ as a metastable phase during rapid solidification was transformed into the stable crystalline phases, cubic 1/0 approximant and monoclinic ${\lambda}$-phase, upon heating. A metastable icosahedral and cubic(a = 0.93 nm) phases in as-spun $Al_{65}Fe_{20}Mo_{15}$ alloy were decomposed into two cubic(a = 0.62, 0.31 nm) phases by heat treatment.

  • $ZrTiO_4$ dielectric thin films were coated by metal-organic decomposition, and annealed by rapid thermal processing up to $900^{\circ}C$ for their crytallization. Crystallized single-phase $ZrTiO_4$ thin films were fabricated above the annealing temperature of $800^{\circ}C$, but their grains were randomly oriented without specific textured orientation. Best dielectric properties were presented by the sample annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ which had crystalline structure and flat surface. Dielectric constant of the film was maintained at 32 throughout full frequency range up to 6 GHz, and dielectric loss was varied between 0.01 and 0.04.

  • Singular value decomposition (SDV) approach is applied to the observability analysis of GPS/INS in this paper. A measure of observability for a subspace is introduced. It indicates the minimum size of perturbation in the information matrix that makes the subspace unobservable. It is shown that the measure has direct connections with observability of systems, error covariance, and singular structure of the information matrix. The observability measure given in this paper is applicable to the multi-input/multi-output time-varying systems. An example on the observability analysis of GPS/INS is given. The measure of observability is confirmed to be less sensitive to system model perturbation. It is also shown that the estimation error for the vertical component of gyro bias can be considered unobservable for small initial error covariance for a constant velocity horizontal motion.

  • In order to characterize the catalytically active sites on carbon black, acetylene chemisorption had been examined recently at 773 and 873 K by using a pulse technique. As the inject ion was repeated at 773 K, the adsorbed amount gradually decreased and eventually the adsorption did not occur any more. At 873 K a constant amount of $C_2H_2$ was consumed repeatedly after several injections. Good linear relationships were obtained between the methane decomposition rate at 1123 or 1173 K and the cumulative acetylene adsorption at 773 K or the constant acetylene consumption at 873 K. Reasonable models for the associative acetylene chemisorption at 773 K and the constant acetylene consumption at 873 K on the armchair face at the edges of graphene layers were proposed. The constant consumpt ion may be explained by the "$C_2H_2$-addition-hydrogen- abstract ion (CAHA)" mechanism.

  • Zero-difference balanced (ZDB) functions can be applied to many areas like optimal constant composition codes, optimal frequency hopping sequences etc. Moreover, it has been shown that the image set of some ZDB functions is a regular partial difference set, and hence provides strongly regular graphs. Besides, perfect nonlinear functions are zero-difference balanced functions. However, the converse is not true in general. In this paper, we use the decomposition of cyclotomic polynomials into irreducible factors over 𝔽p, where p is an odd prime to generalize some recent results on ZDB functions. Also we extend a result introduced by Claude et al. [3] regarding zero-difference-p-balanced functions over 𝔽pn. Eventually, we use these results to construct some optimal constant composition codes.

  • This study was investigated the thermal decomposition characteristics of azo type sponge blowing agent azodicarbonamide(ADCA) using differential scanning calorimeter(DSC). The experimental results showed that the exothermic onset $temperatures(T_{o})$ for ADCA were about $201{\sim}206^{\circ}C$ and evolution heats(Q) were about $144{\sim}150cal/g$. The exothermic onset $temperatures(T_{o})$, exothermic maximum $temperature(T_{m})$ and exothermic final $temperature(T_{f})$ were decreased by decreasing particle size of ADCA and evolution heats(Q) were increased with it. $T_{o}$ and Q for $6.1{\sim}7.2{\mu}m$ ADCA were increased by increasing heating rate at constant sample weight and activation energy was about 37.29kcal/mol. A positive gas pressure was employed in the elucidation of the decomposition behavior of ADCA because it sublimes during linear heating at atmospheric pressure. $T_{o}$ and Q of ADCA tended to increase with a pressure in air or nitrogen. In the case of azo dye, experimental results showed that $T_{o}$ were about $280{\sim}420^{\circ}C$ and Q were about $2{\sim}30cal/g$.

  • In this study, the optical properties, heat transfer capabilities and chemical reaction performance of a methane thermal decomposition reactor using solar heat as a heat source were numerically analyzed on the basis of the cavity shape. The optical properties were analyzed using TracePro, a Monte Carlo ray tracing-based program, and the heat transfer analysis was performed using Fluent, a CFD program. An indirect heating tubular reactor was rotated at a constant speed to prevent damage by the heat source in the solar furnace. The inside of the reactor was filled with a porous catalyst for methane decomposition, and the outside was insulated to reduce heat loss. The performance of the reactor, based on cavity shape, was calculated when solar heat was concentrated on the reactor surface and methane was supplied into the reactor in an environment with a solar irradiance of 700 W/㎡, a wind speed of 1 m/s, and an outdoor temperature of 25℃. Thus, it was confirmed that the heat loss of the full-cavity model decreased to 13% and the methane conversion rate increased by 33.5% when compared to the semi-cavity model.

  • Creepage discharge faults in air on solid insulating material play a vital role in degradation and ageing of material which ultimately leads to breakdown of power equipment. And electric discharge decompose air in to its by-products such as Ozone and $NO_x$ gases. By analyzing air decomposition gases is a potential method for fault diagnostic in air. In this paper, experimental research has been conducted to study the effect of creepage discharge on rate of generation of air decomposition by-products using different insulating materials such as RTV, epoxy and fiberglass laminated sheet. Moreover XRF analysis has been done to analyze creepage discharge effect on these insulating materials. All experiments have been done in an open air test cell under constant temperature and pressure conditions. While analysis has been made for low and high humidity conditions. The results show that the overall concentration of air decomposition by-products under creepage discharge in low humidity is 4% higher than concentration measured in high humidity. Based on this study a mathematical relationship is also proposed for the rate of generation of air decomposition by-products under creepage discharge fault. This study leads to indirect way for diagnostic of creepage discharge propagation in air.

  • $Zn_{x}Fe_{3-x}O_{4}(0.00.<X<0.08)$ was synthesized by air oxidation method for the decomposition of carbon dioxide. We investigated the characteristics of catalyst, the form of methane by gas chromatograph after decomposition of carbon dioxide and kinetic parameter. $Zn_{x}Fe_{3-x}O_{4}(0.00.<X<0.08)$ was spinel type structure. The surface areas of catalysts($Zn_{x{Fe_{3-x}O_{4}(0.00.<X<0.08)$) were $15{\sim}27$ $m^{2}/g$. The shape of $Zn_{0.003}Fe_{2.997}O_{4}$ was sphere. The optimum temperature for the decomposition of carbon dioxide into carbon was $350^{\circ}C$. $Zn_{0.003}Fe_{2.997}O_{4}$ showed the 85% decomposition rate of carbon dioxide and the degree of reduction by hydrogen(${\delta}$) of $Zn_{0.003}Fe_{2.997}O_{4}$ was 0.32. At $350^{\circ}C$, the reaction rate constant and activation energy of $Zn_{0.003}Fe_{2.997}O_{3.68}$ for the decomposition of carbon dioxide into carbon were 3.10 $psi^{1-{\alpha}}/min$ and 0.98 kcal/mole respectively. After the carbon dioxide was decomposed, the carbon which was absorbed on the catalyst surface was reacted with hydrogen and it became methane.

  • Litter decomposition is an important process in terrestrial ecosystem. However, studies on decomposition are rare, especially in evergreen broadleaf trees. We collected the leaf litter of five evergreen broadleaf trees (Daphniphyllum macropodum, Dendropanax morbifera, Castanopsis cuspidata var. thunbergii, Machilus thunbergii and Quercus acuta), and carried out a decomposition experiment using the litterbag method in Ju-do, Wando-gun, Korea for 731 days from December 25, 2011 to December 25, 2013. Among the five experimental tree species, C. cuspidata var. thunbergii distribution was limited in Jeju Island, and D. macropodum was distributed at the highest latitude at Mt. Baekyang (N 35°40′). About 2% of the initial litter mass of D. macropodum and D. morbifera remained, while 20.9% remained for C. cuspidata var. thunbergii, 30.4% for M. thunbergii, and 31.6% for Q. acuta. D. macropodum litter decayed four times faster (k = 2.02 yr-1) than the litter of Q. acuta (k = 0.58 yr-1). The decomposition of litter was positively influenced by thermal climate such as accumulated mean daily air temperature (year day index) and precipitation, as well as by physical characteristics such as thickness (R2=0.939, P = 0.007) and specific leaf area (SLA) (R2 = 0.964, P = 0.003). The characteristics of chemical composition such as lignin (R2 = 0.939, P = 0.007) and water-soluble materials (R2 = 0.898, P = 0.014) showed significant correlations with litter decomposition. However, the nutrients in litter showed complicated species-specific trends. The litter of D. macropodum and D. morbifera had fast decomposition despite their low nitrogen concentration and high C/N ratio. This means that the litter decomposition was more strongly affected by physical characteristics than chemical composition and nutrient content. On the other hand, the litter of Q. acuta which had the slowest decay rate had a high amount of N and low C/N ratio. Thus, the decomposition of Q. acuta litter was more affected by the P content of the litter than the N content, although all litter had similar physical characteristics.
