  • For LiMn2O4 based spinel structures the stoichiometric reaction conditions need be considered carefully because the electrical properties depend on the structural stability. In order to obtain the homogeneous compound the Pechini process was chosen which could obtain a stoichiometry phase even low temperature and dependency of the synthetic condition on structural stability and electrochemical performance was investigated. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the compounds doped with transition metal have smaller lattice constants than those un doped. The dc conductivity was evaluated by a four probe method in the low and high temperature region respectively. The variations of basal spacings for the cathode were detected to be dependent on the extent of current flows (under dc)

  • The HVDC transformer which is one of the main equipments for HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) electric power transmission systems is exposed to not only AC voltage but also the inflowing DC voltage which comes from the DC-AC converter systems. Therefore, the HVDC transformer insulation system is required to withstand the electric field stress under AC, DC and DC polarity reversal conditions. However the electric field distributions under those conditions are different because the AC electric field and DC electric field are governed by permittivity and conductivity, respectively. In this study, the changes of electric potential and electric field of conventional AC transformer insulation system under DC polarity reversal test condition were analyzed by FEM(Finite Element Method). The DC electric field stress was concentrated in the solid insulators while the AC electric field stress was concentrated in the mineral oil. In addition, the electric stress under that condition which is affected by the surface charge accumulation at the interfaces between insulators was evaluated. The stress in some parts could be higher than that of AC and DC condition, during polarity reversal test. The result of this study would be helpful for the HVDC transformer insulation system design.

  • The aim of the work was to investigate the thermo-electrical properties of low cost and rapidly produced randomly oriented carbon/carbon (C/C) composite. The composite body was fabricated by combining the high-pressure hot-pressing (HP) method with the low-pressure impregnation thermosetting carbonization (ITC) method. After the ITC method step selected samples were graphitized at $3000^{\circ}C$. Detailed characterization of the samples' physical properties and thermal properties, including thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity, specific heat and coefficient of thermal expansion, was carried out. Additionally, direct current (DC) electrical conductivity in both the in-plane and through-plane directions was evaluated. The results indicated that after graphitization the specimens had excellent carbon purity (99.9 %) as compared to that after carbonization (98.1). The results further showed an increasing trend in thermal conductivity with temperature for the carbonized samples and a decreasing trend in thermal conductivity with temperature for graphitized samples. The influence of the thickness of the test specimen on the thermal conductivity was found to be negligible. Further, all of the specimens after graphitization displayed an enormous increase in electrical conductivity (from 190 to 565 and 595 to 1180 S/cm in the through-plane and in-plane directions, respectively).

  • DC and AC electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of milled carbon fiber/nylon composites were investigated with the kind of nylon matrix. Percolation transition at which the conductivity is sharply increased was observed at about 7 vol% of milled carbon fiber. Nylon 46 as a matrix was more effective to obtain high electrical conductivity than nylon 6, and the difference in conductivity was occurred by the treatment of coupling agent. Frequency dependence of AC conductivity could be explained by relaxation phenomenon at just below percolation and resonance phenomenon at 40 vol% of carbon fiber, respectively. Negative temperature coefficient phenomenon was found in all composites. Electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness was increased with the concentration of carbon fiber. At a high conductivity region the return loss was more dominant to the total shielding effectiveness than the absorption loss.

  • The Velocity Autocorrelation Function (VAF) of the sodium ions is calculated for a range of temperature from 250K to 1000K and converted into the linear ac-conductivity and ac-susceptibility response via Fourier transformation. A peak is found in the conductivity around $6{\times}10^{12}Hz$ that has some of the character of a Poley absorption. Here it is shown to be due to an harmonically coupled site vibrations of the sodium atoms, which extend only over a limited range. At frequencies below the peak the conductivity tends towards a constant i.e. dc value corresponding to a constant flow of ions through the simulation cell. At high temperatures the conductivity due to this ion transport process behaves like a metal with an insulator to metal transition occurring around a specific temperature.

  • This paper describes the preparation and study of thermally stimulated discharge conductivity (TSDC) study of cellulose triacetate (CTA) - multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) film thermoelectrets. TSDC has been carried out in the temperature range 308 - 503 K and at four different polarizing fields. The conductivity of the polymer blends increased with increase in temperature showing a semi-conducting behavior. The apparent activation energy also showed a pronounced effect with the increase in the content of MWNTs.

  • The thermal degradation of low density polyethylene (LDPE) will accelerate the production of carbonyl groups (C=O), which can act as the induced dipoles under high voltage. In this paper, we researched the dielectric properties and space charge behavior of LDPE after thermal aging, which can help us to understand the correlation between carbonyl groups (C=O) and electrical properties of LDPE. The spectra results show that LDPE exhibit obvious thermooxidative reactions when the aging time is 35 days and the productions mainly contain carboxylic acid, carboxylic eater and carboxylic anhydride, whose amount increase with the increasing of aging time. The dielectric properties show that the real permittivity of LDPE is inversely proportional to temperature before aging and subsequently become proportional to temperature after thermal aging. Furthermore, both the real and imaginary permittivity increase sharply with the increasing of aging time. The fitting results of imaginary permittivity show that DC conductivity become more sensitive about temperature after thermal aging. On this basis, the active energies of materials calculated from DC conductivity increase first and then decrease with the increasing of aging time. In addition, the space charge results show that the heterocharges accumulated near electrodes in LDPE change to the homocharges after thermal aging and the mean volume charge density increase with the increasing of aging time. It is considered that the overlaps caused by electrical potential area is the main reason for the increase of DC conductivity.

  • Nano ZnO with an average size of 8 nm was prepared by thermal decomposition of zinc oxalate at $450^{\circ}C$. A series of based composite polymer electrolyte PEO-$LiClO_4$ and nano ZnO as a filler have been synthesized using solution cast technique, with varying the filler ratio systematically. XRD, DSC and FTIR studies have been conducted to investigate the structure and interaction of different groups in the composite polymer electrolyte. Effect of nano ZnO ceramic filler concentration on the structure of composites and their electrical properties (DC-conductivity, AC-conductivity, dielectric constant, dielectric loss and impedance) at different frequencies and temperatures was studied. Melting temperature ($T_m$) of PEO decreased with the addition of both $LiClO_4$ salt and nano ZnO filler due to increasing the amorphous state of polymer. All composite samples showed an ionic conductivity. The maximum room temperature ionic conductivity is found for $(ZnO)_{0.5}(PEO)_{12}(LiClO_4)$ composite sample. All the results are correlated and discussed.

  • The electrical and rheological behavior of the hollow polyaniline glutarate suspension in silicone oil was investigated. Hollow polyaniline glutarate suspension showed a typical ER response (Bingham flow behavior) under a DC electric field. The shear stress for the suspension exhibited the dependence with a factor equals to 0.95 power on the electric field. The experimental results for the hollow polyaniline glutarate suspension behaved as an ER fluid.
