  • In this paper, a new hybrid DC-DC converter is proposed for electric vehicle 3.3 kW on-board battery charger applications, which can be modulated in a phase-shift manner under a fixed frequency or frequency variation. By integrating a half-bridge (HB) LLC series resonant converter (SRC) into the conventional phase-shift full-bridge (PSFB) converter with a full-bridge rectifier, the proposed converter has many advantages such as a full soft-switching range without duty-cycle loss, zero-current-switching operation of the rectifier diodes, minimized circulating current, reduced filter inductor size, and better utilization of transformers than other hybrid dc-dc converters. The feasibility of the proposed converter has been verified by experimental results under an output voltage range of 250-420V dc at 3.3 kW.

  • The DC side voltage and current of a HVDC transmission system are directly affected by non-linear switching devices such as the thyristor valve which causes real power losses, even under the superconducting conditions of a high temperature superconducting (HTS) power cable. This paper deals with the development of miniaturized superconducting DC cable system. The authors designed and fabricated two thyristor converters for DC transmission system. One is operated as a rectifier and the other is an inverter. The HTS model cable was connected between the DC side of the rectifier and inverter. Real DC transport current and voltage were applied to the miniaturized HTS DC cable. Experimental results are discussed in detail.

  • DC link electrolytic capacitors are widely used in various PWM power converter system, such as adjustable speed driver(ASD) or DC/DC converter. Electrolytic capacitors, which is the most of the time affected by aging effect, plays a very important role for the power electronics system quality and reliability. This objective of this paper is to propose a improvement method to detect the rise of equivalent series resistor(ESR) in order to realize the online failure prediction of electrolytic capacitor for DC link of PWM power converter. The ESR detection scheme is based on the determination of the electrolytic capacitor AC losses calculated from voltage/current measurement using AC coupling. Therefore, the preposed online failure prediction method has the merits of easy ESR computation and circuit simplicity compare with BPF method. Simulation results show the veridity of the proposed on-line ESR estimation method.

  • In this paper, a novel on-line dc capacitance estimation method for the three-phase PWM converter is proposed. At no load, input current at a low frequency is injected, which causes dc voltage ripple. With the at voltage and current ripple components of the dc side, the capacitance can be calculated. Experimental result shows that the estimation error is less than 2%.

  • A novel online capacitance estimation method for a DC-link capacitor in a three-phase AC/DC/AC PWM converter is proposed. A controlled AC voltage with a lower frequency than the line frequency is Injected into the DC-link voltage, which then causes AC power ripples at the DC output side. By extracting the AC voltage and power components on the DC output side using digital filters, the capacitance can then be calculated using the recursive least squares method. The proposed method can be simply implemented with only software and no additional hardware. Experimental results confirm that the estimation error is less than 0.2%.

  • This paper proposes a compensator to eliminate the DC bias of inductor current. This method utilizes an average-current sensing technique to detect the DC bias of inductor current. A small signal model of the DC bias compensation loop is derived. It is shown that the DC bias has a one-pole relationship with the duty cycle of the left side leading lag. By considering the pole produced by the dual active bridge (DAB) converter and the pole produced by the average-current sensing module, a one-pole-one-zero digital compensation method is given. By using this method, the DC bias is eliminated, and the stability of the compensation loop is ensured. The performance of the proposed compensator is verified with a 1.2-kW DAB converter prototype.

  • Switch losses directly affect the efficiency of power conversion systems and those have big differences according to the power consumed by load systems and the structures of power conversion circuits. In this paper, analyses for switch losses in DC link converter are performed based on the circuit structures of the DC/DC converter in photovoltaic generation system whose output power is varied according to the amount of solar radiation, temperature and partial shade on the solar modules. Boost converter is adopted as a DC link converter topology of the photovoltaic generation system and the loss analyses for the switches used in the boost converters are performed according to the circuit structures. Analyses like the things performed in this paper will be a prerequisite to designing the photovoltaic generation system whose output power is changed according to the environmental variations.

  • In this paper, a novel concept for a static three-phase to three-phase power converter for an AC drive with a unity power factor and reduced harmonics on the utility line is presented. The power circuit consists of two back-to-back connected six-pulse bridges having only a $\mu$F ceramic capacitor in the DC link. By controlling the active kpower balance between two bridges, the DC link voltage can be maintained within 20V deviation from the nominal value with the small ceramic capacitors regardless of the load variation even in the unbalanced source condition.

  • In this paper, a 24-pulse AC-DC converter is designed, modeled, simulated, and developed to feed non-isolated varying loads. The proposed AC-DC converter configuration consists of an auto-transformer based on zigzag connection to overcome current harmonic problems in AC mains. It improves power quality at AC mains and it meets IEEE-519 standard requirements at varying loads. A set of power quality indices on input AC mains and on DC buses for a load fed from 6-pulse and 12-pulse AC-DC converters is also given to compare their performance. It is observed that input current total harmonic distortion(THD) of less than 8% is possible with the proposed topology of AC-DC converter at varying loads.

  • DC distribution system is difficult to compose the single-system because of the capacity restriction of power semiconductors. Therefore, DC Distribution system needs parallel operation of AC/DC converters for increase to system capacity. However, this system generates the circulating current. This paper is reducing the circulating current and safely sharing the load using the proposed DC current droop control method when each other 3-phase AC/DC converter connected. This system confirms through the simulation and experiment. Also, when each other converter of parallel operate. it is compared the response characteristics
