  • There are several methods for the design of 2D filter. Notable among them is McClellan transform method. This transform allows us to obtain a high order 2D FIR filter through mapping the 1D frequency points of a 1D prototype FIR filter onto 2D frequency contours. We design 2D filter using this transform. Then we notice for mapping deviation of the 2D filter. In this paper, Quadratic programming (QP) method allows us to obtain coefficients of McClellan transform. Then we compare deviation of QP method with least-squares(LS) method. Elliptic filter is used for comparison. The optimal cutoff frequencies of a 1D filter are obtained directly from the QP method. Also several problem of LS method are solved.

  • In this paper, the optimal position selection of error sensors and transducers to attenuate interior noise from outside noise sources using active control techniques is presented. To get an optimal control characteristics in adaptive noise control systems, it is necessary to optimize the positions of sensors and transducers. A new type of simulated annealing method has been proposed as searching technique to find optimal transducers and sensors positions in which the sum of the squared pressures at sensor position in an enclosure can be best minimized. Computer simulations and experiments have been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In process planning for 3D pocket machining, the critical issues for the optimal process planning are the generation of cutting layers and the tool selection for each cutting layers as well as the other factors such as the determination of machining types, tool path, etc. This paper describes the optimal tool selection on a single cutting layer for 2D pocket machining, the generation of cutting layers for 3D pocket machining, the determination of the thickness of each cutting layers, the determination of the tool combinations for each cutting layers and also the development of an algorithm for determining the machining sequence which reduces the number of tool exchanges, which are based on the backward approach. The branch and bound method is applied to select the optimal tools for each cutting layer, and an algorithmic procedure is developed to determine the machining sequence consisting of the pairs of the cutting layers and cutting tools to be used in the same operation.

  • Purpose: This article provides step-stress accelerated degradation test (ADT) plans based on the Wiener process. Method: Step-stress levels and the stress change times are determined based on the D-optimality criteria to develop test plans. Further, a simple grid search method is provided for obtaining the optimal test plan. Results: Based on the solution procedure, ADT plans which include the stress levels and change times are developed for conducting the reliability test. Conclusion: Optimal step-stress ADT plans are provided for the case where the number of measurements is small.

  • 3D-based information is needed increasingly as well as 2D Information as cities grow and buildings become large and complex, and use of 3D-models is getting attention to handle such problems. However, there are limitations in using 3D-models because most applications and research efforts using them have been for visual analysis. This study presents a method to find optimal paths in indoor spaces as an illustration for using 3D-models in spatial analysis. We modeled rooms, paths and other facilities in a building as individual 3D objects. We made it possible to find paths based on network structure by integrating the vector-based networks of 2D-GIS and 3D-model.

  • An optimal feature selection and extraction procedure is an important task that significantly affects the success of brain activity analysis in brain-computer interface (BCI) research area. In this paper, a novel method for extracting the optimal feature from electroencephalogram (EEG) signal is proposed. At first, a student's-t-statistic method is used to normalize and to minimize statistical error between EEG measurements. And, 2D time-frequency data set from the raw EEG signal was extracted using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) as a raw feature, standard deviations and mean of 2D time-frequency matrix were extracted as a optimal EEG feature vector along with other basis feature of sub-band signals. In the experiment, data set 1 of BCI competition IV are used and classification using SVM to prove strength of our new method.

  • Thermoforming is one of the most versatile and economical processes available for shaping polymer products, but obtaining a uniform thickness of the final product using this method is difficult. Heater power adjustment is very important because the thickness distribution depends strongly on the distribution of the sheet temperature. In this paper, the steady-state optimum distribution of heater power is first ascertained by a numerical optimization to obtain a uniform sheet temperature. The time-dependent optimal heater input is then determined to decrease the temperature difference through the direction of the thickness using the response surface method and the D-optimal method. The optimal results show that the time-dependent optimum heater power distribution gives an acceptable uniform sheet temperature in the forming temperature range by the end of the heating process.

  • Design optimization of a transonic compressor rotor (NASA rotor 37) using response surface method and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis has been carried out in this work. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model was used in the flow analysis. Three design variables were selected to optimize the stacking line of the blade. Data points for response evaluations were selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method was used for the optimization on the response surface. As a main result of the optimization, adiabatic efficiency was successfully improved. Ana, it is found that the design process provides reliable design of a turbomachinery blade with reasonable computing time.

  • In this paper, an artificial neural network (ANN) was employed to build a predicting model for refrigerator structure. The predicting model includes three input variables of the plaque depth (D), width (W) and interval distance(S) on the inner wall. Finite element method was utilized to obtain the data, which would be necessary for the ANN training process. Finally, a genetic algorithm (GA) was applied to find the optimal parameters that leaded to the minimum inner case deformation under operating condition. The optimal combination found is the depth(D) of 2.63mm, the width(W) of 19.24mm and the interval distance(S) of 49.38mm which leaded to the smallest deformation of 1.88mm for the given refrigerator model.
