Analysis of Auxiliary Device in a Gas-solid Cyclone by Experimental and Computational Approaches

  • An auxiliary device, called Post Cyclone (PoC). had been introduced and primarily examined in earlier works which proved the reduction of the emission of fine dust from the gas-solid cyclones without incurring significant increase of cost and pressure drop. It has been known that the PoC has some advantages over other secondary dust treatment devices such as (a) simple design, (b) low cost of manufacture, (c) minimum additional pressure drop, (d) high recoverbility of the product dust, and (e) simplicity of operation. Despite the potential advantage, however, lack of practical data confined its plausible application in wide areas. Thus, in this work, a few serial experiments were conducted in terms of a few operation conditions, and the particle trajectories throughout the cyclone set-up were visually analyzed by using a commercial computer simulation program (FLUENT).

천리안 위성 적외영상 자료를 이용한 태풍강풍반경의 산출 (An Estimation of the of Tropical Cyclone Size Using COMS Infrared Imagery)

  • An algorithm to symmetric radius of $15ms^{-1}$ isotaches of tropical cyclones is suggested using infrared (IR) imagery of geostationary satellite. It is assumed that symmetric tangential winds outside the maximum winds exponentially decrease with the radial distances of the tropical cyclone, which has a clear eye-wall structure. Four parameters for estimation of the tropical cyclone size are center location, maximum sustained wind, radius of the maximum wind, and relaxation coefficient for the decreasing rate with distances of the tropical cyclone. The estimation results are limitedly verified as comparing to surface winds of polar orbiting satellite such as ASCAT data.

  • A promising new approach to achieve low pollutants emission and improvement of flame stabilities is tested experimentally using a hybrid cyclone jet combustor employing both premixed and diffusion combustion mode, Three kind of nozzles are used for LNG(Liquified Natural Gas) as a fuel. The combustor is operated by two method, One is ATI(Air Tangential Injection) mode, generated swirl flow by air as general swirl combustor, and the other is PTI(Premixed gas Tangential Injection) mode, The PTI mode consists of diffusion flame of axial direction and premixed cyclone flame of tangential direction in order to stabilized the diffusion flame. The results showed that the stable region of the PTI mode is more larger than the ATI mode. In addition, the reduction of NOx emission in PTI mode, as compared with that for the ATI mode is at least 50% in stable region. Also, even using the low calorific fuel as $CO_2$-blended gas, the cyclone jet combustor has high performance of flame stability.

상부유입식 전기 Cyclone-Bag Filter의 특성 (Characteristics of Electrostatic Cyclone-Bag Filter with Upper Inlet)

  • The main object of this study was to investigate experimentally the characteristics of electrostatic cyclone-bag filter with upper tangential inlet in order to overcome the low collection efficiency for the submicron particle and high pressure drop which were main problems of general fabric bag filters. The experiment was carried out for the analysis of collection efficiency and pressure drop of electrostatic cyclone-bag filter comparing to those of fabric bag filter with various experimental parameters such as the inlet velocity(filtration velocity) and applied voltage etc. In the results the upper tangential inlet type showed higher collection efficiency for submicron particles below 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter than that of center inlet and over 99.9% for overall collection efficiency. Pressure drop reduction ratios were shown as 40-50% for the applied voltage 0kV by centrifugal force and 70-90% for 20k V by the centrifuga and electrostatic force with the tangential inlet velocity (12-21m/s)

A review of tropical cyclone wind field models

  • Engineered structures such as buildings and bridges in certain regions of the world need to be designed to withstand tropical cyclone winds, otherwise known as typhoons or hurricanes. In order to carry out this design, it is necessary to be able to estimate the maximum wind speeds likely to be encountered by the structure over its expected lifetime, say 100 years. Estimation of the maximum wind involves not only the overall strength of the tropical cyclone, but the variation of wind speed with radius from the centre, circumferential position, and with height above the ground surface. In addition, not only the mean wind speed, but also the gust factor must usually be estimated as well. This paper investigates a number of recent mathematical models of tropical cyclone structure and comments on their suitability for these purposes in a variety of scenarios.

연마장비용 사이클론 집진장치 설계 (Development of Sweeping Machine with Cyclone Dust Collector)

  • 본 논문에서는 선박의 외벽 청소용으로 사용되는 연마장비에 사이클론 집진방식을 채용한 연마장비를 개발을 위한 최적화된 설계를 위한 기본적인 메카니즘과 설계를 소개하고자 한다. 사이클론 방식은 공기의 유입 및 유출 속도 및 압력에 따른 미립자 등을 분리하는 기능을 하게 되는데 본 연구에서는 이러한 연마장비설계를 위한 사이클론 집진기의 효율과 압력, 유입 공기속도에 따른 설계방법을 소개하고 일부 실험결과를 제시하도록 한다.

사이클론 건조기용 이젝터 유동 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Flow Characteristics of Ejector for Cyclone Air Drying Machine)

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the performance of a cyclone drying machine and air ejector used in drying applications. This paper deals with optimization of the geometry of the ejector for sludge drying using computational fluid dynamics. To facilitate the design of a jet ejector for air drying machines, a numerical model of simultaneous mass and heat transfers between the liquid(sludge) and gas(air) phases in the jet ejector was developed. The steady-state model was based on unidimensional balance equations of mass, energy and momentum for the liquid and gas phases. It was shown that the optimum condition to minimize pressure and momentum loss of air in the ejector was d=220mm. It was found that sludge particles inside the cyclone was smoothly discharged by the conical wedge installed on the bottom of the cyclone.

  • Cyclone is one of the most widely used gas - solid separation devices in industries. In spite of its many advantages, lower separation efficiency and flat separation curve are usually associated with cyclones. Therefore, the primary goal of cyclone research is to improve its separation capability while retaining its basic features. In this study, granules were filled in the cone of a cyclone in an attempt to increase the cyclone separation efficiency through the combination of granular filtration and centrifugal separation.   • Effects of cyclone and freeboard geometry on solid entrainment loss were investigated with two different types of cyclones and bubbling beds in a gas-solid fluidized bed system. The solid entrainment loss was measured by collected fines during continuous solid circulation condition. Bubbling bed which has an expanded freeboard showed less solid entrainment than the bubbling bed which has a straight freeboard. The cyclone which has a wide gas-solid mixture inlet showed less solid entrainment loss than the cyclone which has a narrow gas-solid mixture inlet. Moreover, the cyclone has a wide gas-solid mixture inlet can capture smaller particles.

자동차 브레이크 미세먼지 포집을 위한 미니 사이클론의 난류모델에 따른 포집효율 변화 (Variation of Collection Efficiency with Turbulence Model in a Mini Cyclone for Collecting Automobile Brake Fine Dust)

  • Fine dust generated from vehicle brakes accounts for a significant amount of fine dust from non-exhaust system. Since such brake fine dust contains a large number of heavy metal components that are fatal to the human body, a device capable of collecting them needs to be developed. A mini cyclone, one of the devices that can effectively collect fine dust, has the advantage of relatively simple shape and high collection efficiency. Therefore, in this study, the collection efficiency of the mini-cyclone was numerically analyzed using CFD in order to find out whether such a mini-cyclone is suitable for collecting brake fine dust. As a result, the cut-off diameter was predicted to be about 1.5㎛, which means that the particle trapping load of the filter can be drastically reduced. Therefore, there is a possibility that the mini-cyclone can be used to collect fine dust from disc brakes.
