  • The transport phenomena of electron and ion around the electrode have been analyzed, herein the computational program to simulate the electrochemical signal of cyclic voltammetry has been implemented. For the dominant mass-transfer system, the governing equation and its boundary conditions are confined to the semi-infinite diffusion model and the reversible reaction at the electrode. In order to obtain the numerical solutions of cyclic voltammetry, MATLAB was used for the explicit finite difference method. Experimental results from the cyclic voltammetry of electrochemical system(10 mM $K_3Fe(CN)_6$ and 0.1M KCl) upon the ITO glass substrate were compared with the numerical solutions. Present program explains the experimental results fairly well, where they approached the simulated ones closely with deceasing the scan rate. Furthermore, the effects of electrode area, electrochemical reaction constants and transfering coefficients in the cyclic voltammetry were discussed quantitatively.

  • A signal in real world usually composes of multiple signals having different scales of frequencies. For example sun-spot data is fluctuated over 11 year and 85 year. Economic data is supposed to be compound of seasonal component, cyclic component and long-term trend. Decomposition of the signal is one of the main topics in time series analysis. However when the signal is subject to nonstationarity, traditional time series analysis such as spectral analysis is not suitable. Huang et. at(1998) proposed data-adaptive method called empirical mode decomposition (EMD) . Due to its robustness to nonstationarity, EMD has been applied to various fields. Huang et. at, however, have not considered denoising when data is contaminated by error. In this paper we propose efficient denoising method utilizing cross-validation.

  • This paper addresses the issue of time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) estimation for complex noncircular signals. First, under the wide-sense stationary assumption, we derive the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator and the Cramer-Rao lower bound for Gaussian noncircular signals in Gaussian circular noise. The ML estimator uses the second-order statistics information of a noncircular signal more comprehensively when compared with the cross-correlation (CC) and the conjugate CC estimators. Further, we present a scheme to modify the traditional signal-selective TDOA methods for noncircular signals on the basis of the cyclostationarity of man-made signals. This scheme simultaneously exploits the information contained in both the cyclic cross-correlation (CCC) and the conjugate CCC of a noncircular signal.

  • We report on electrochemical signal amplification using gap electrodes based on the redox cycling between gap electrodes. The distance between electrodes was controlled from $2{\mu}m$ to a few hundreds of nanometer by chemical deposition of reduced Au ion on the pre-defined electrodes. Enhanced redox current of ferri/ferrocyanide was obtained by redox cycling between the two working electrodes. The faradaic current is amplified about a thousand times in this redox system. Since the signal amplification is due to the shortened diffusion length between the two electrodes, the narrower the nanogap was, the better detection limit, calibration sensitivity, and dynamic range. The experimental results were discussed on the basis of the cyclic voltammetry (CV), atomic force microscope (AFM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements.

  • This study was undertaken to examine the intensity of involvement of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclic GMP signal transduction pathway as one of the mechanisms of vaso-relaxative action of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on the canine femoral artery strips. Canine femoral arteries were isolated and spiral strips of 10 mm long and 2 mm wide were made in the Tyrode solution of $0-4^{\circ}C$. The strips were prepared for isometric myography in Biancani's isolated muscle chamber containing 1 ml of Tyrode solution, which was maintained with pH 7.4 by aeration with 95% $O_2$/5% $CO_2$ at $37^{\circ}C$ and nitric oxide (NO) production was measured simulltaneously with isolated nitric oxide meter. LPS induced NO production, suppressed the phenylephrine (PE) induced contraction and enhanced the acetylcholine (ACh) induced relaxation. $N^G$-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), an NOS inhibitor, methylene blue, a guanylyl cyclase inhibitor, potentiated PE induced contraction and suppressed ACh induced relaxation on the LPS treated strips. The inhibitory potency of methylene blue for LPS induced vascular hyporesponsiveness was stronger than that of L-NAME. These results suggest that in canine femoral artery, both iNOS and cyclic GMP signal trnasduction pathway are related with LPS induced vascular hyporeponsiveness, but in minor with iNOS and in major with cyclic GMP signal trnasduction pathway.

  • Mammalian eggs are ovulated arrested at meiotic metaphase II until fertilization. Generally in mammals, fertilization results in a series of intracellular calcium oscillations that are mediated by inositol triphosphate (IP$^3$) or cyclic adenosine diphosphoribose (cADPr). The high levels of maturation promotion factor (MPF) within the cell decrease, pronuclei form, the cytoskeleton is reorganized and proteins are post-translationally modified. If all is normal, the newly formed embryo initiates the developmental program specific to that species. Artificial methods of producing these effects in pig oocytes are discussed. One potential mechanism mediated via a signal transduction pathway is present in pig oocytes. Stimulation of this pathway leads to the early events following fertilization, and electrical stimulation leads to apparently normal de v velopment to day 12. Further studies are needed to determine which mechanism(s) the sperm uses to initiate development.

  • In OFDM system, cyclic prefix (CP) is used to eliminate the inersymbol interference that is caused by the channel dispersion. However, a long CP reduces the data transmission rate. An alternative to a logn CP is the a time domain channel shortening filter at the receiver that shortens the effective channel, thus a short CP is used in spite of a long channel impulse response. In the paper, we compare a various channel shortening techniques; minimum shortened signal to noise ratio (MSSNR), minimum interblock interference (min-IBI), and minimum ISI (min-ISI).

  • The Metal Magnetic Memory (MMM) method is a non-destructive testing method based on an analysis of the self-magnetic leakage field distribution on the surface of a component. It is used for determining the stress concentration zones or any irregularities on the surface or inside the components fabricated from ferrous-based materials. Thus, this paper presents the MMM signal behaviour due to the application of fatigue loading. A series of MMM data measurements were performed to obtain the magnetic leakage signal characteristics at the elastic, pre-crack and crack propagation regions that might be caused by residual stresses when cyclic loadings were applied onto the A283 Grade C steel specimens. It was found that the MMM method was able to detect the defects that occurred in the specimens. In addition, a justification of the Self Magnetic Flux Leakage patterns is discussed for demonstrating the effectiveness of this method in assessing the A283 Grade C steel under cyclic loadings.

  • In this paper, we propose an initial timing and frequency synchronization scheme for low probability detection (LPD) systems with cyclic code shift keying (CCSK). The performance of the LPD system with CCSK highly depend on initial timing and frequency offset. On the other hand, the operating SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of LPD systems is usually very low. Hence, to guarantee a reliable performance of the LPD system, it is crucial to develop suitable initial synchronization algorithms. In this paper, we propose an initial timing and frequency synchronization scheme suitable for CCSK based LPD system using a repeated preamble pattern.

  • One of various low-density parity-check(LDPC) codes that has been adopted in many communication standards due to its error correction ability is a quasi-cyclic LDPC(QC-LDPC) code, which leads to comparable decoder complexity. One of the main blocks in the QC-LCDC code decoder is a multi-size circular shifter(MSCS) that can perform various size rotation. The MSCS can be implemented with many structures, one of which is based on Banes network. The Benes network structure can perform the normal MSCS operation efficiently, but it cannot use the properties coming from specifications like rotation sizes. This paper proposesd a scheme where the Benes network structure can use the rotation size property with the modification of the control signal generation. The proposed scheme is applied to the MSCS of IEEE 802.16e WiMAX QC-LDPC decoder to reduce the number of MUXes and the critical path delay.
