Electrochemical Oxidation of Benzidine and Hydrazobenzene

  • The electrochemistry of benzidine and hydrazobenzene was studied in water-acetonitrile mixed solutions at various pHs and the results are reported. The cyclic voltammetric peak for the oxidation of benzidine shows a pH dependency of -62 mV/pH in the pH range of 0-3.5, no pH dependency between pH values of 3.5 and about 10.5, and of about -50 mV/pH between pH=10.50 and 14.0, indicating that oxidation mechanisms differ depending on the pH of the medium. However, the CV peak for the hydrazobenzene oxidation is shown to be independent of pH of the medium, suggesting that the proton is not involved in the rate limiting step of the electrochemical oxidation of hydrazobenzene to azobenzene. Results of in situ spectroelectrochemical experiments indicate that the oxidation products obtained during the oxidation of benzidine and hydrazobenzene depend on the result of dynamic equilibria taking place at various pHs.

  • Effect of $H_2S$ on reactivity of oxygen carrier was measured and discussed using fluidized bed reactor and SDN70 oxygen carrier. We could get 100% of fuel conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity even though $H_2S$ containing simulated syngas was used as fuel for reduction. Absorbed sulfur was released during oxidation and $N_2$ purge step after oxidation as $SO_2$ form. We could get 100% of fuel conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity during cyclic reduction-oxidation tests up to 10th cycle. However, only 6~7% of sulfur can be removed during oxidation and $N_2$ purge step and 93~94% of sulfur was accumulated in the oxygen carrier. Therefore we could conclude that total removal of sulfur was not possible. $SO_2$ emission during oxidation decreased as the number of cycle increased. Therefore we could expect that the reactivity of oxygen carrier will be decreased with time.

Electrochemical oxidation-reduction and determination of urea at enzyme free PPY-GO electrode

  • This manuscript explains the effective determination of urea by redox cyclic voltammetric analysis, for which a modified polypyrrole-graphene oxide (PPY-GO, GO 20% w/w of PPY) nanocomposite electrode was developed. Cyclic voltammetry measurements revealed an effective electron transfer in 0.1 M KOH electrolytic solution in the potential window range of 0 to 0.6 V. This PPY-GO modified electrode exhibited a moderate electrocatalytic effect towards urea oxidation, thereby allowing its determination in an electrolytic solution. The linear dependence of the current vs. urea concentration was reached using square-wave voltammetry in the concentration range of urea between 0.5 to $3.0{\mu}M$ with a relatively low limit of detection of $0.27{\mu}M$. The scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize the morphologies and properties of the nanocomposite layer, along with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results indicated that the nanocomposite film modified electrode exhibited a synergistic effect, including high conductivity, a fast electron-transfer rate, and an inherent catalytic ability.

  • We investigated the electrochemical properties for Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of functionalized polyimide. LB films of polyimide monolayer were deposited by the Langmuir-Blodgett method on the indium tin oxide(ITO) glass. The electrochemical properties measured by cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system(an Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode) at various concentrations(0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 N) of $NaClO_4$ solution. The current of reduction and oxidation range was measured from 1650 mV to -1350 mV, continuously. The scan rates were 50, 100 and 150 mV/s, respectively. As a result, monolayer and multilayer LB films of polyimide are appeared on irreversible process caused by the oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram.

  • We carried out this subject to observe electrochemical properties of 1,2-dioleoyl-sn- glycero-3-phosphocholine(DOPC) mixed with fatty acid containing azobenzene group by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system, An Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode in $NaClO_4$ solution. We investigated the photoisomerization and electrochemical property of the organic ultra thin film of fatty acid containing azobenzene was prepared on the hydrophilic ITO(idium tin oxide) glass plate by LB method. As a result, the absorption spectra of BASH and DOPC of mixture LB films was induced to photoisomerization by alternating irradiation of ultraviolet and visible light. A measuring range was reduced from initial potential to -1350mV, continuously oxidized to 1650 mV and measured to the initial point. The scan rate were 50, 100, 150 and 200 mV/s. As a results, LB films of BASH-DMPC appeared reversible process caused by the reduction-oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram.

Cyclovoltametric Methods for the Ionization Potential and Electron Affinity of Iridium ppy Derivatives

  • The effects of molecular structure on the redox properties of the organic electroluminescent materials (Ir$(ppy)_3$ Ir$(m-ppy)_3$ Ir$(p-toly)_3$) were studied using cyclic voltammetry and spectroscopy. These iridium complexes show reversible oxidation and reduction on the electrode, which produce the symmetric cyclic voltammogram. It indicates that these materials are very stable under repetitive oxidation/reduction cycles. The electrochemically determined ionization potentia/electron affinity values are 5.4OeV/3.02eV for Ir$(ppy)_3$, 5.36eV/2.96eV for Ir$(m-ppy)_3$, and 5.35eV/2.97eV for Ir$(p-toly)_3$ from the SCE(Standard Calomel Electrode). The electrically determined band gaps are 2.38eV (521nm), Ir$(ppy)_3$, 2.4OeV (517nm), Ir$(m-ppy)_3$, and 2.38eV (521nm). Ir$(p-toly)_3$, which are similar with the optical band gaps. The position of methyl group on 2-phenylpyridine (ppy) effects do not influence much on the ionization potential, electron affinity, and band gap of Ir$(ppy)_3$ derivatives.

  • 임피던스 스펙트럼을 이용하여 황산 용액에서 glassy carbon과 인조흑연(PVDF 합성 흑연)의 전극표면에 cyclic 분극을 부하 하였을 경우 전극표면에서 나타나는 표면반응에 대하여 조사하여 . 두 재료 표면에서 산소의 산화 혹은 환원과 관련되거나 또는 탄소재료 표면에 화학흡착된 표면작용기(surface functional group)의 변화와 관련되는 것으로 생각되는 산화환원 피크가 potentio-dynamic곡선에서 나타났다. 이러한 전극 표면에서의 표면작용기의 산화환원은 glassy carbon과 PVDF합성 흑연의 임피던스 스펙트럼에도 커다란 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또 glassy carbon과 PVDF합성 흑연에서의 임피던스 파라미터는 분극부하에의해 현저한 변화가 나타났다.가 나타났다.

The energy levels of molecular orbital were calculated by the density function theory (DFT) with exchange correction functional of local density approximation (LSA) based on the Perdew-Wang (PWC) setting and cyclic voltammetry.

Electrooxidation of DL-norvaline at Glassy Carbon Electrode: Approaching the Modified Electrode for Voltammetric Studies of Hydroquinone and Catechol

  • The DL-norvaline was electrochemically oxidized and deposited on the glassy carbon electrode surface using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The modified electrode was examined for electrochemical oxidation of hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC). It exhibited good electrocatalytic ability towards their oxidation and simultaneous determination in a binary mixture using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The peak currents were linear to the concentration of HQ and CC, in the range from $5{\mu}M$ to $100{\mu}M$, and $4{\mu}M$ to $140{\mu}M$, respectively. The determination limits(S/N = 3) for HQ and CC were $1{\mu}M$ and $0.8{\mu}M$, respectively. The obtained modified electrode was applied to simultaneous detection of HQ and CC in water sample.

지방산과 인지질 혼합 LB막의 전기화학적 특성 (The Electrochemical Characterization of Mixture LB Films of Fatty Acid and Phospholipids)

  • We studied electrochemical characteristics of Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system. An Ag/AgCl as a reference electrode, a platinum wire as a counter electrode and LB film-coated indium tin oxide(ITO) as a working electrode were used to study electrochemical characteristics at a various concentration of $NaClO_4$ solution. LB films were reduced from initial potential to -1350 mV, continuously oxidized to l650mV and returned to the initial point. The scan rate was l00mV/s. The monolayer surface morphology of the LB film have been measured by Atomic Force Microscope(AFM). As a result, We comfirmed that the microscopic properties of LB film by AFM showed the good orientation of momolayer molecules and the thickness of monolayer was 3.5-4.lnm. The cyclic voltammograms(CV) of the ITO-coated glass showed the peak potentials for the reduction-oxidation reation. LB films of 4-octyl-4'-(5-carboxypentamethyleneoxy) azobenzene(8A5H) / L-${\alpha}$-phosphayidyl choline, dilauroyl(DLPC) seemed to be irreversible process caused by only the oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram. The current of oxidatation increased at cyclic voltammogram by increasing 8A5H density in LB films. The diffusivity(D) of LB films increased with increasing of a 8A5H amount and was inversely proportional to the concentration of $NaClO_4$ solution.
