  • As communication is becoming increasingly prevalent and especially communication architecture is more relying on the open standard communication protocols, the security issues become major concerns. In this paper we consider possible cyber attacks in the applications based on the current distribution communication architecture, and then derive the security goals. Next we propose how the security algorithms can be adapted to achieve these security goals. We intend to adapt the most efficient ways of secure message exchange, taking the resource-constrained FRTUs into account Finally we show some experiments to validate the protocols.

  • The emergence of new technologies and devices brings a new environment in the field of cyber security. It is not easy to predict possible security threats about new environment every time without special criteria. In other words, most malicious codes often reuse malicious code that has occurred in the past, such as bypassing detection from anti-virus or including additional functions. Therefore, we are predicting the security threats that can arise in a new environment based on the history of repeated malicious code. In this paper, we classify and define not only the internal information obtained from malicious code analysis but also the features that occur during infection and attack. We propose a method to predict and manage security threats in new environment by continuously managing and extending.

  • Cyber attacks have become more difficult to detect and track as sophisticated and advanced APT attacks increase. System providence graphs provide analysts of cyber security with techniques to determine the origin of attacks. Various system provenance graph techniques have been studied to reveal the origin of penetration against cyber attacks. In this study, we investigated various system provenance graph techniques and described about data collection and analysis techniques. In addition, based on the results of our survey, we presented some future research directions.

  • Most national critical key infrastructure, such like electricity, nuclear power plant, and petroleum is run on SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system as the closed network type. These systems have treated the open protocols like TCP/IP, and the commercial operating system, which due to gradually increasing dependence on IT(Information Technology) is a trend. Recently, concerns have been raised about the possibility of these facilities being attacked by cyber terrorists, hacking, or viruses. In this paper, the method to minimize threats and vulnerabilities is proposed, with the virtual honeynet system architecture and the attack detection algorithm, which can detect the unknown attack patterns of Zero-Day Attack are reviewed.

  • Recently application of open protocols and external network linkage to the national critical infrastructure has been growing with the development of information and communication technologies. This trend could mean that the national critical infrastructure is exposed to cyber attacks and can be seriously jeopardized when it gets remotely operated or controlled by viruses, crackers, or cyber terrorists. In this paper virtual Honeynet model which can reduce installation and operation resource problems of Honeynet system is proposed. It maintains the merits of Honeynet system and adapts the virtualization technology. Also, virtual Honeynet model that can minimize operating cost is proposed with data analysis and collecting technique based on the verification of attack intention and focus-oriented analysis technique. With the proposed model, new type of attack detection system based on virtual Honeynet, that is Cybertrap, is designed and implemented with the host and data collecting technique based on the verification of attack intention and the network attack pattern visualization technique. To test proposed system we establish test-bed and evaluate the functionality and performance through series of experiments.

  • Along with the evolution of Internet and its new emerging services, the quantity and impact of attacks have been continuously increasing. Currently, the technical capability to attack has tended to decrease. On the contrary, performances of hacking tools are evolving, growing, simple, comprehensive, and accessible to the public. In this work, network penetration testing and auditing of the Redhat operating system (OS) are highlighted as one of the most popular OS for Internet applications. Some types of attacks are from a different side and new attack method have been attempted, such as: scanning for reconnaissance, guessing the password, gaining privileged access, and flooding the victim machine to decrease availability. Some analyses in network auditing and forensic from victim server are also presented in this paper. Our proposed system aims confirmed as hackable or not and we expect for it to be used as a reference for practitioners to protect their systems from cyber-attacks.

  • As operations that were only conducted in physical space in the past change to operations that include cyberspace, it is necessary to analyze how cyber attacks affect weapon systems using cyber systems. For this purpose, it would be meaningful to analyze a tool that analyzes the effects of physical weapon systems in connection with cyber. The ROK military has secured and is operating the US JMEM, which contains the results of analyzing the effects of physical weapon systems. JMEM is applied only to conventional weapon systems, so it is impossible to analyze the impact of cyber weapon systems. In this study, based on the previously conducted cyber attack damage assessment framework, a framework for analyzing the impact of cyber attacks on physical missions was presented. To this end, based on the MOE and MOP of physical warfare, a cyber index for the analysis of cyber weapon system effectiveness was calculated. In addition, in conjunction with JMEM, which is used as a weapon system effect manual in physical operations, a framework was designed and tested to determine the mission impact by comparing and analyzing the results of the battle in cyberspace with the effects of physical operations. In order to prove the proposed framework, we analyzed and designed operational scenarios through domestic and foreign military manuals and previous studies, defined assets, and conducted experiments. As a result of the experiment, the larger the decrease in the cyber mission effect value, the greater the effect on physical operations. It can be used to predict the impact of physical operations caused by cyber attacks in various operations, and it will help the battlefield commander to make quick decisions.

  • Recently, the patterns of cyber attack through internet have been various and have become more complicated and thus it is difficult to detect a network intruder effectively and to response the intrusion quickly. Therefore, It is almost not possible to chase the real location of a network intruder and to isolate the Intruder from network in UDP based DoS or DDoS attacks spoofing source IP address and in TCP based detour connection attacks. In this paper, we propose active security architecture on active network to correspond to various cyber attacks promptly. Security management framework is designed using active technology, and security control mechanism to chase and isolate a network intruder is implemented. We also test the operation of the active security mechanism implemented on test_bed according to several attack scenarios and analyze the experiment results.

  • Smart grid is a network of computers and power infrastructure that monitor and manage energy usage efficiently. Recently, the smart grid demonstration projects around the world, including the United States, Europe, Japan, and the technology being developed. The protection of the many components of the grid against cyber-threats has always been critical, but the recent Smart grid has been threatened by a variety of cyber and physical attacks. We model and analyze advanced metering infrastructure(AMI) in smart grid. Using attack countermeasure tree(ACT) we show qualitative and probabilistic security analysis of AMI. We implement using SHARPE(Symbolic Hierarchical Automated Reliability and Performance Evaluator) tool and calculate probability, ROA, ROI, Structure Importance, Birnbaum Importance.
