In this paper, the implementation of dual rate ADPCM using G.723 16Kbps and 40Kbps speech codec algorithm is handled. For small signals, the low rate 16Kbps coding algorithm shows the same SNR as the high rate 40Kbps coding algorithm, while the low rate 16Kbps coding algorithm shows the lower SNR than the high rate 40Kbps coding algorithm for large signal. To obtain the good trade-off between the data rate and synthesized speech quality, we applied low rate 16Kbps for the small signal and high rate 40Kbps for the large signal. Various threshold values determining the rate are tested for good trade off data rate and speech quality. Also the low pass filter effect of speech input and output devices is simulated at several cut-off frequencies. To simulation result shows the good speech quality at a low rate comparing with 16Kbps & 40Kbps.

Although discontinuously reinforced metal matrix composite(MMC) is one of the most promising materials for applications of aerospace, automotive industries, the thermal residual stresses developed in the MMC due to the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion between the matrix and the fiber under a temperature change has been pointed out as one of the serious problem in practical applications. There are very limited nondestructive techniques to measure the residual stress of composite materials. However, many difficulties have been reported in their applications. Therefore it is important to establish analytical model to evaluate the thermal residual stress of MMC for practical engineering application. In this study, an elastic model is developed to predict the average thermal residual stresses in the matrix and fiber of a misoriented short fiber composite. The thermal residual stresses are induced by the mismatch in the coefficient of the thermal expansion of the matrix and fiber when the composite is subjected to a uniform temperature change. The model considers two-dimensional in-plane fiber misorientation. The analytical formulation of the model is based on Eshelby's equivalent inclusion method and is unique in that it is able to account for interactions among fibers. This model is more general than past models to investigate the effect of parameters which might influence thermal residual stress in composites. The present model is to investigate the effects of fiber volume fraction, distribution type, distribution cut-off angle, and aspect ratio on thermal residual stress for in-plane fiber misorientation. Fiber volume fraction, aspect ratio, and distribution cut-off angle are shown to have more significant effects on the magnitude of the thermal residual stresses than fiber distribution type for in-plane misorientation.

The nuclear structures are composed of large diameter bars over No.36. If the hooked bars are used for anchorage of large diameter bars, too long length of the tail extension of the hook plus bend create congestion and make an element difficult to construct. To address those problems, headed bars were developed. Provisions of ACI 318-08 specify the development length of headed bars and ignore the effect of transverse reinforcement based on the background researches. However, if headed bars are used at the cut-off or lap splice, longitudinal reinforcements, which are deformed in flexural members, induce tensile stress in cover concrete and increase the tensile force in the transverse reinforcement. The object of this research is to evaluate the effects of transverse reinforcement on the anchorage capacity of headed bar so anchorage test with variable of transverse rebar spacing was conducted. Specimens, which can consider the behavior at the cut-off, were tested. Test results show that failure of specimen without transverse reinforcement was sudden and brittle with concrete cover lifted and developed stress of headed bars was less than half of yield strength of headed bars. On the other hand, in the specimen with transverse reinforcement, transverse rebar directly resist the load of free-end so capacity of specimens highly increased.
In this study, the spatial variation mechanisms of large far-field earthquakes at engineering scales are first investigated with data from the 2008 Ms 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake. And a novel 'coherency cut-off frequency' is proposed to distinguish the spatial variations in ground motions in the low-frequency and high-frequency ranges. Then, a practical piecewise coherency model is developed to estimate and characterize the spatial variation in earthquake ground motions, including the effects of source-to-site distances, site conditions and neighboring topography on these variations. Four particular earthquake records from dense seismograph arrays are used to investigate values of the coherency cut-off frequency for different source-to-site distances. On the basis of this analysis, the model is established to simulate the spatial variations, whose parameters are suitable for both near- and far-field earthquake conditions. Simulations are conducted to validate the proposed model and method. The results show that compared to the existing models, the proposed model provides an effective method for simulating the spatial correlations of ground motions at local sites with known source-to-site distances.

EMI(Electromagnetic Interface) is a measure of electomagnetic radiation from equipment in the range of 10KHz to 3GHz, and can cause unexpected reactions of electronics/electrical equipment. In this study, for safe and stable communication operation, a STGU(System Timing Genetation Unit), which is a 2.5Gbps SDH System and a major EMI source, was employed to simulate electromagnetic interface. In On-Site test, the power of fundamental frequency of EMI of interest and its harmonics were measured. Also, a low pass filter at cut-off frequency of 2GHz was specifically designed to minimize the effect of EMI between electronic components. When the low pass filter was implemented within the STGU, the power of EMI decreased more than 20dBm. Finally, when TIE and MTIE, two important quality measure in synchronous reference clcok, was assessed, ITU-T G8l3 requirements are satisfied.
Calcium aluminate glasses transmit light at relatively long wavelengths up to 6 ㎛ and exhibit also low Rayleigh scattering values. However they have a tendency to get devitrified easily, which limits their use as routine optical materials. Here, the ternary system CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 glasses with low-silica (<30 mol%) were prepared to prevent the devitrification of CaO-Al2O3 glasses and the properties were investigated as functions of composition. The addition of SiO2 to calcium aluminate glasses promoted their stability, which was due to the decrease of non-bridging oxygens and the reconnection of network. As SiO2 was added, density, refractive index, molar volume of oxygens and thermal expansion coefficient decreased continuously. But the glass transition temperatures with increasing SiO2 contents were raised and then lowered. It was postulated that the anomaly was related to the changes of the middle range order as well as the short range order. As the amount of SiO2 in the glass was increased, the IR cut-off values moved to shorter wavelength owing to 'Si-O' antisymetric stretching vibration. The IR cut-off wavelength of the glasses with 5 and 30 mol% SiO2 was 4.90, 4.55 ㎛, respectively.

DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) is one of the most widely used method to estimate the phasor of a relaying signal. The harmonics are eliminated by the DFT. However, high frequency components, except for harmonics, are not removed and cause an error in DFT-based phasor estimation process. This paper suggests high frequency noise reduction method by using a newly designed low-pass filter to estimate a signal phasor. When selecting a stop-band cut-off frequency of the low-pass filter, high frequency components generated by faults are considered. To reduce the phasor estimation delay caused by a low-pass filter, this paper proposes a low-pass filter whose settling time is reduced. An adverse effect of high frequency noise on DFT-based phasor estimation is reduced. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, signals which are collected under a fault condition at a 345[kV] transmission system modeled by EMTP-RV are used.

An electro-aerodynamic lens for improving the performance of virtual impactor has been proposed in this study. ANSYS FLUENT Release 16.1 was used for numerical analysis of virtual impactor with and without the electro-aerodynamic lens, used to collimate the incoming aerosol particles into a particle beam before injecting the particles into the virtual impactor. Particles supplied to the electro-aerodynamic lens were assumed to be highly charged. By using an aerodynamic lens before the virtual impactor, without any electrostatic effect, it was found that the cut-off diameter of the virtual impactor was reduced from $4.2{\mu}m$ to $0.68{\mu}m$ and that the fine particle contamination problem became more serious. However, by employing the combined electrostatic and aerodynamic effects, that is, by applying electric voltage potential to the electro-aerodynamic lens, the cut-off diameter was found to be further reduced to $0.45{\mu}m$ and the fine particle contamination was eliminated.

In this paper, infrared reflector design targeting infrared stealth effect is presented using structural optimization based on the phase field method. The analysis model was determined to accomplish the design that an incident infrared wave was reflected to a desired direction. The design process was to maximize the objective value at the measuring domain located in a target region and the design objective was set to the Poynting vector value which represents the energy flux. Optimization results were obtained according to the variation of some parameter values related to the phase field method. The model with a maximum objective value was selected as the final optimal model. The optimal model was modified to eliminate the gray scale using the cut-off method and it confirmed improved performance. In addition, to check the desired effect in the middle wave infrared range(MWIR), the analysis was performed by changing the input wavelength. The finite element analysis and optimization process were performed by using the commercial package COMSOL combined with the Matlab programming.

Improvement in breakdown voltage ($BV_{ds}$) and speed of the device are the key issues among the researchers for enhancing the performance of HEMT. Increased speed of the device aspires for shortened gate length ($L_g$), but due to lithographic limitation, shortening $L_g$ below sub-micrometer requires the inclusion of various metal-insulator geometries like T-gate onto the conventional architecture. It has been observed that the speed of the device can be enhanced by minimizing the effect of upper gate electrode on device characteristics, whereas increase in the $BV_{ds}$ of the device can be achieved by considering the finite effect of the upper gate electrode. Further, improvement in $BV_{ds}$ can be obtained by applying field plates, especially at the drain side. The important parameters affecting $BV_{ds}$ and cut-off frequency ($f_T$) of the device are the length, thickness, position and shape of metal-insulator geometry. In this context, intensive simulation work with analytical analysis has been carried out to study the effect of variation in length, thickness and position of the insulator under the gate for various metal-insulator gate geometries like T-gate, $\Gamma$-gate, Step-gate etc., to anticipate superior device performance in conventional HEMT structure.
