Job Satisfaction and Customer-oriented Service Performance of University Foodservice Employees (대학급식소 종사원의 직무만족과 고객지향서비스 수행도)

  • The aims of this study were to estimate the level of job satisfaction and customer-oriented service performance in university food service employees Two hundreds-six food service employees working in Seoul were enrolled and the response rate was 85.8%. Of respondents, 85.9% was female and most of the respondents were 40 years up (70.8%). Generally, respondents had approximately 5 years job experience and high school level. Mean score of job satisfaction was 3.23 score out of 5.00. The highest and lowest items on job satisfaction were responsibility and commitment(4.00). and promotions opportunity(2.69), respectively. Considering job satisfaction; relationships of supervisors, employment and career were significantly different in age(P<0.05), job-system and wage(P<0.05), respectively. Mean score of customer-oriented service performance was 3.75. The highest and lowest items on customer-oriented service performance were delivering on time(4.02) and service information for customers(3.21), respectively. Customer-oriented service performance was significantly different in age and wage(P<0.05). Job satisfaction had positive correlation to customer-oriented service performance. Relationship of supervisors was positively correlated with relationship of coworkers and career.

Effect of Digital Selling Readiness on Salespeople's Customer-Oriented Behavior Through Digital Literacy and Self-Efficacy

  • Purpose: This study systematically examined the concept of digital selling readiness of salespeople. Additionally, this study empirically confirms the sequential mediating roles of digital literacy and salesperson self-efficacy in the impact of digital selling readiness on customer-oriented behavior. Research design, data, and methodology: We collected data from salespeople at a Bank and Financial Service firm in South Korea. A total of 254 salespeople were invited to participate, with 154 surveys returned. After removing the questionnaires with missing values, 150 complete surveys were employed for the analysis. Results: The empirical analysis indicates that digital selling readiness positively affects digital literacy. Digital literacy, in turn, is positively associated with self-efficacy, leading to increased customer-oriented behaviors among salespersons. This study also confirms the sequential mediating effects of digital literacy and self-efficacy in the impact of salespeople's digital selling readiness on customer-oriented behavior. Conclusions: Our research deepens the understanding of how digital selling readiness fosters customer-oriented behavior through the sequential mediating effects of digital literacy and self-efficacy. This study extends the previous model by sequentially involving digital literacy and self-efficacy to better understand the psychological processes of digital selling. The results highlight the role of digital selling readiness in preparing salespeople for digital sales.

The Impact of Food Service Franchisee's Customer-oriented Activities on Hedonic, and Utilitarian Values and Loyalty

  • Purpose - As the competition in the foodservice franchise industry and the market becomes fierce and the entry barrier is lowered, the foodservice franchisor and franchisees strive to increase their competitive advantage in the market. Therefore, the franchisor and franchisees use experience management strategies to enhance the positive experiences of customers visiting the stores. In this regard, this study examines the effects of customer-oriented activities (physical-, social-, health-, and service-oriented activities) on utilitarian and hedonic values, and loyalty using stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) model and value-expectancy theory. Research design, data, methodology - The data were collected from panels of online survey company, who visited a foodservice franchisee within last month. The survey was conducted for about 15 days from March 7, 2019 to March 21, 2019, and about 3,500 e-mails and messages were distributed to ask for the survey. A total 412 responded and completed the questionnaires. Of the 412 completed questionaires, 12 were discarded due to missing and misinformation data and 400 were retained for further data analysis. Results --The results showed that social oriented activities, health oriented activities, and service oriented activities had positive effects on hedonic value, while physical oriented activities did not have a significant effect on hedonic value. Health oriented activities and service oriented activities had positive effects on utilitarian value, while physical oriented activities and social oriented activities had no significant effects on utilitarian value. Hedonic and utilitarian values also have a positive effect on loyalty. Conclusions - First, food service franchises should provide services and menus in consideration of the health of customers. When a customer visits the store, franchisee should provide more health-oriented food or materials and clean and comfortable conditions so as not to threaten the health of the customer. Second, the food service franchise must build a service-oriented system. Foodservice franchisor need to provide continuous service training not only to the franchisees, but also to the employees of the franchisees. Third, franchise should design a store where customers can form social exchanges through providing various information exchange to customers and making the store as a local community center.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the role of employee engagement as a mediator between the High-Performance Work System and the Service-Oriented Organizational Citizenship Behavior (Service-Oriented OCB). Furthermore, work-life balance as a moderator, the impact Service-Oriented OCB on customer satisfaction will be investigated. This study employs a quantitative methodology for which questionnaires were distributed to sixty restaurants in Karachi, and a sample of 418 responses was collected for structural equation modeling analysis. Smart PLS software was used to analyze the structure model. The results show that HPWS has a positive impact on Service-Oriented OCB. It is assumed that the role of work engagement as a mediator between HPWS and Service-Oriented OCB is significant. This study found that Service-Oriented OCB has a positive impact on customer satisfaction. Work-life balance was also found to have a moderating influence. The findings confirmed the black box mechanism and the HPWS procedures in restaurants. This study suggests implementing effective HPWS practices to influence employees' work engagement, which leads to Service-Oriented OCB and employees being able to optimize their performance to influence customer satisfaction. The study contributes to the existing body of knowledge in human resource management.

Give a Man a Fish or Teach Him to Fish: The Effects of Types of Help on Customer Satisfaction

  • People receive support from others to solve problems that are difficult to solve on their own. During service encounters, customers also receive help from other customers. Inter-customer helping is a type of Customer Citizenship Behavior (CCB), which has become more prevalent with increased use of self-service technologies (SSTs). However, not all helps are created equal. The current research investigates the effects of the two types of help, autonomy- and dependency-oriented help during service encounters. Autonomy-oriented help refers to a partial hint to the problem, whereas dependency-oriented help refers to the full solution to the problem. Through experimental studies, we provide evidence that depending on the types of help received during service encounters, customers show different levels of satisfaction toward the firm. The results from Studies 1A and 1B show that autonomy- (vs. dependency-) oriented help leads to higher customer satisfaction. In addition, the current research demonstrates the mechanism for such effect. The results from Study 2 show that the relationship between the types of help and customer satisfaction is mediated by instrumentality and anxiety, which represent cognitive and affective paths respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the food safety-oriented policy and the survey on its effect in foodservice industry. The current thesis was based on the questionnaire survey conducted between January and March 2006 for seven food service companies. 240 questionnaires were distributed to each of the selected restaurants, from which a total of 200 questionnaires were collected. The results of this study were analyzed with the frequency analysis, correlative analysis and regression analysis using the SPSS 12.0 package program. The results of the test of hypotheses can be summarized as follows. We find that, as for food safety-oriented policy factors, there is a significant relationship among the survey factors including customer satisfaction, cost reduction, customer prior occupation, accident prevention and suitable relation. The current analysis exhibits favorable results in the food safety-oriented policy and the survey factors. Thus, foodservice management needs to employ food safety-oriented policy aggressively.

  • This study examines the impact of job stress on customer-oriented boundary-spanning behavior with the mediating effects of organizational commitment. The survey data was collected from 147 employees working at a hospital and analyzed statistically by using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The result of this study are as follows. Hypothesis 1, Job stress has a negative influence on organizational commitment. Hypothesis 2, Organizational commitment has a positive influence on customer-oriented boundary-spanning behavior. Hypothesis 3, Job stress has a negatively significant impact on customer-oriented boundary-spanning behavior. Accordingly, Organizational commitment has the role of partially mediating the effect between job stress and customer-oriented boundary-spanning behavior. This means that employees working at the point of meeting customers must reduce their job stress in order to improve the service quality of a hospital and creating solutions to reduce job stress of hospital employees can increase customer-oriented boundary-spanning behavior.

Effects of Self Leadership on the Customer Oriented Public Service: A Case of Local Government Public Officials (지방공무원 셀프리더십이 고객지향성에 미치는 영향)

  • Main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the self-leadership of local public officials on the customer-oriented public service provision. Structural Equation Model was applied to analyze the relationship between self leadership and customer oriented public service attitude. Positive structural relationships between self-leadership and customer-oriented attitude was confirmed from empirical analysis. While variable job-satisfaction took intermediating role between self-leadership and customer-oriented attitude. The result implies that behavioral approach might be a more effective policy measure to improve citizen's satisfaction for public services. For a extended periods, Korean government introduced various institutional arrangements to improve the customer satisfaction for public service. However, the result was not satisfactory. The result of this study suggest behavioral approach to improve public service customer satisfaction.

Effects of Self Core Evaluation on the Customer Oriented Public Service: Mediating Effect of Job Engagement (지방공무원 핵심자기평가가 고객지향성에 미치는 영향)

  • Main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the self core evaluation of local public officials on the customer-oriented public service provision. Structural Equation Model was applied to analyze the relationship between self core evaluation and customer oriented public service attitude. From theoretic point, establishing the relationship between psychological concept(self core evaluation) and attitude is contribution to existing literature in this area. Positive structural relationships between self core evaluation and customer-oriented attitude was confirmed from empirical analysis. The result implies that organizational psychological approach might be a more effective policy measure to improve citizen's satisfaction for public services.   • The Customer Satisfaction which effects directly the performance of almost all companies. Therefore, it is very important for a company to reflect totally market environment which can be changed fast and diversely by customer requirements. In spite of many studies on the marketing decision, it has been rarely applied for the quantitative method and result of Customer Satisfaction Index Assessment in the marketing decision process. This study used ANP(Analytic Network Process) approach permitting the interdependent relationship between hierarchy and decision factors in the decision process. Moreover, we propose the method which represents efficiently the Customer Satisfaction Index so that the Suggested Model in this study becomes Customer-Oriented.
