  • In order to perform the spatial buckling analysis of the curved beam element with nonsymmetric thin-walled cross section, exact static stiffness matrices are evaluated using equilibrium equations and force-deformation relations. Contrary to evaluation procedures of dynamic stiffness matrices, 14 displacement parameters are introduced when transforming the four order simultaneous differential equations to the first order differential equations and 2 displacement parameters among these displacements are integrated in advance. Thus non-homogeneous simultaneous differential equations are obtained with respect to the remaining 8 displacement parameters. For general solution of these equations, the method of undetermined parameters is applied and a generalized linear eigenvalue problem and a system of linear algebraic equations with complex matrices are solved with respect to 12 displacement parameters. Resultantly displacement functions are exactly derived and exact static stiffness matrices are determined using member force-displacement relations. The buckling loads are evaluated and compared with analytic solutions or results by ABAQUS's shell element.

  • In the case of horizontally curved bridges, the use of curved composite box girder bridges are increased due to its functionality and for aesthetical reason. As it compared with the open section, the steel box girder bridges have advantages to resistant of distortion and corrosion. In practice the grid analysis is conducted by utilizing only the cross beam. Since the stiffness of the concrete slab is not included in the grid analysis, the cross beam is induced the distribution of the live load. In this study the affects of the radius of curvature, the number of diaphragm and cross beam to the load distribution of the curved steel box girder bridge was investigated by applying the finite element method. The results indicate that the curvature of curved bridge had a large affect of the load distribution and as the curvature was increased the load distribution factor was increased. A single diaphragm at the center of girder is important role for the load distribution effects and structural stability, but additional diaphragm did not affect it as much. The affects of the cross beam to the load distribution were investigated and its influence was minor. It can be safely concluded that the addition of cross beam does not aid the purpose of the live load distribution. And the stiffness of concrete slab for the load distribution effects should be concerned in the design of curved steel box girder bridges.

  • A robust element is essential for successful design of steel frames with Direct analysis (DA) method. To this end, an innovative and efficient curved-quartic-function (CQF) beam-column element using the fourth-order polynomial shape function with end-springs in series is proposed for practical applications of DA. The member initial imperfection is explicitly integrated into the element formulation, and, therefore, the P-${\delta}$ effect can be directly captured in the analysis. The series of zero-length springs are placed at the element ends to model the effects of semi-rigid joints and material yielding. One-element-per-member model is adopted for design bringing considerable savings in computer expense. The incremental secant stiffness method allowing for large deflections is used to describe the kinematic motion. Finally, several problems are studied in this paper for examining and validating the accuracy of the present formulations. The proposed element is believed to make DA simpler to use than existing elements, which is essential for its successful and widespread adoption by engineers.

  • Since the skew beam element has two curvatures which are a curvature and a torsion, spatial behavior of curved beam which cannot be included in one plane can be anlayzed by emploting the skew beam element. The $C^{0}$-continuous skew beam element shows the stiffness locking phenomenon when full integration is employed. The locking phenomenpn is characterized by two typical phenomena ; one is the much smaller displacement thant the exact one and theother is the undelation phenomenon is stress distribution. In this paper, we examine how unmatched coefficient in the constrained energy brings about the locking by Reduced Minimization theory. We perform the numerical ones. These comparisons show that uniformly full integration(UFI), which employs full integration for the constrained energy, entails the locking phenomenon. But the use of uniformly reduced integration(URI) of selectively reduced integration(SRI), which employs reduced integration for constrained energy, does not produce the significant errors of displacements of the undulation phenomenon in stress distribution since they do not entails the locking, Additionally, the error due to the approximated parameters for describing the geometry of skew beam is examined.d.

  • Recently, arches are used structurally because of their high in-plane stiffness and strength, which result from their ability to transmit most of the applied loading by axial forces actions, so that the bending actions are reduced. On the other hand, the resistances of arches to (out-of-plane,) flexural-torsional behavior depend on the rigidities EI/sub y/, for lateral bending, GJ for Uniform torsion, and EI/sub w/ for warping torsion which are related to axial stress for flexural-torsional behavior. The resistance of an arch to out-of-plane behavior may be reduced by its in-plane curvature, and so it may require significant lateral bracing. Thus. it is supposed that In-plane preloading which cause an axial stress, have an effect on out-of-plane free vibration behavior of arches. Because axial stresses caused increase or decrease out-of-plane stiffness. But study about this substance is insufficient. In this thesis, We will study an effect of preloading on lateral free vibration of arches, using finite element method based on Kang and Yoo's curved beam theory (about curved beam element have 7 degree of freedom including warping) with FORTRAN programming.

  • Recently, hearing loss patients have been increasing to excessive use of various multimedia devices. One of the hearing rehabilitation systems, bone conduction hearing aid can be used to conductive deafness patients efficiently. However, the conventional bone conduction hearing systems has some problems such as skin diseases, repulsion of patients, and vibration power reduction by skin damping. In this paper, to overcome the conventional problems, we proposed power improvement method by curved beam diaphragm. The proposed method is skin attachment system which is non-implantable, and then the power of transducer is improved by the proposed method. In order to improve the vibration power of diaphragm, variable that has correlation with displacement are extracted, the diaphragm designed by extracted variable. To verify efficient of the proposed method, experiment conducted by finite element analysis. As a result of, the proposed method confirmed improved power to compare with the conventional method and proposed method.

  • A consistent finite element formation and analytic solutions are presented for spatial stability of thin-walled circular arch. The total potential energy is derived by applying the principle of linearized virtual work and including second order terms of finite semitangential rotations. As a result the energy functional corresponding to the semitangential rotation is obtained, in which the elastic strain energy terms are considered restrained warping effects. We have obtained analytic solution for the lateral buckling of monosymmetric thin-walled curved beam subjected to pure bending or uniform compression and it's boundary conditions are simply supported. For finite element analysis, the two node cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape Auctions. In order to illustrate the accuracy of this study, parameter studies for lateral buckling problems of circular arch are presented and compared with available solutions and numerical results analyzed by the FEM using straight beam element.

  • In this study, analytic solution and finite element formulation for the free vibration analysis of thin-walled circular arch, based on linearized virtual work and Vlasov's assumption, including restrained warping effect and second order terms of finite semitangential rotations, is presented. The total potential energy is derived by applying the Hellinger-Reissner principle. In this formulation, all displacement parameters of deformation are defined at the centroid axis. For the finite element formulation, the two node cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions. In special case, potential energy functional of thin-walled curved beam with monosymmetric cross section is derived. From this methodology, analytic solution for the free vibration of monosymmetric circular arch with simply supported is derived. In order to illustrate the accuracy of this study, various parameter studies for free vibration of circular arches are presented and compared with numerical solution analyzed by the FEM using straight beam element.

  • An improved formulation for spatial stability md free vibration of thin-walled curved beams with variable curvature and non-symmetric cross sections are presented based on the displacement field considering the second order terms of finite semitangential rotations. By introducing Vlasov's assumptions, the total potential energy is derived from the principle of linearized virtual work for a continuum. In this formulation, all displacement parameters and the warping function are defined at the centroid axis so that the coupled terms of bending and torsion are added to the elastic strain energy. Also, the potential energy due to initial stress resultants is consistently derived corresponding to the semitangential rotation and moment. The cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions for development of the curved thin-walled beam element having eight degrees of freedom. In order to illustrate the accuracy and practical usefulness of this study, . numerical solutions for free vibration of arches are presented and compared with resells of other researchers and solutions analyzed by the ABAQUS's shell element.
