  • This study is focused on the dynamic response of curved bridge when the rubber tired AGT vehicles is running with alternative articulations. For the analytic approach, there is necessary for the three dimensional vehicle model with 11 degree of freedom and the three dimensional curved bridge model by means of finite element method. It can be described by conventional Lagrangian formula with respect to the dynamic interactions between vehicles and its met bridge. The formula is implemented by Fortran language on the simulation program designated BADIA II(Bridge-AGT Dynamic Interaction Analysis II). The solutions of the formula are derived by Newmark- ${\beta}$ method. The BADIA II is for the dynamic interactions between vehicle and curved bridge in terms of the roughness of running surface and guide rail. The applicability of the BADIA II is verified in terms of displacement and modal frequency. This study is described that the dynamic interactive behaviors between the rubber tired AGT vehicle and curved bridge in terms of the radius of curvatures of curved bridge, vehicle articulations, vehicle speeds, vehicle weights, flatness of running surface and roughness of guide rail using BADIA II.

  • The current article deals with the dynamic stability, and structural improvement of vibrating electrically curved screen on the viscoelastic substrate. By considering optimum value for radius curvature of the electrically curved screen, the structure improvement of the system occurs. For modeling the electrically system, the Maxwell's' equation is developed. Hertz contact model in employed to obtain contact forces between impactor and structure. Moreover, variational methods and nonlinear von Kármán model are used to derive boundary conditions (BCs) and nonlinear governing equations of the vibrating electrically curved screen. Galerkin and Multiple scales solution approach are coupled to solve the nonlinear set of governing equations of the vibrating electrically curved screen. Along with the analytical solution, 3D finite element simulation via ABAQUS package is provided with the aid of a FE package for simulating the current system's response. The results are categorized in 3 different sections. First, effects of geometrical and material parameters on the vibrational performance and stability of the curves panel. Second, physical properties of the impactor are taken in to account and their effect on the absorbed energy and velocity profile of the impactor are presented. Finally, effect of the radius and initial velocity on the mode shapes of the current structure is demonstrated.

  • The article presents the vibration and acoustic responses of un-baffled doubly curved laminated composite panel structure under the excitation of a harmonic point load. The structural responses are obtained using a simulation model via ANSYS including the effect various geometries (cylindrical, elliptical, spherical and hyperboloid). Initially, the model has been established by solving adequate number of available examples to show the convergence and comparison behaviour of the natural frequencies. Further, the acoustic responses are obtained using an indirect boundary element approach for the coupled fluid-structure analysis in LMS Virtual.lab by importing the natural frequency values. Subsequently, the values for the sound power level are computed using the present numerical model and compared with that of the available published results and in-house experimentally obtained data. Further, the acoustic responses (mean-square velocity, radiation efficiency and sound power level) of the doubly curved layered structures are evaluated using the current simulation model via several numerical experimentations for different structural parameters and corresponding discussions are provided in detail.

  • The extent of slack is correlative with the wheelbase of vehicle as well as the distance between the inner faces of flanges. Since the movable clearance of wheel flange is getting reduced in curved track, the vehicle is more difficult to negotiate the track. By this reason, a certain extent of slack is normally designed for curved track to allow the movable clearance corresponding to that of straight track. In case of some foreign railways,. the fixed extent of slack has been classified by the ranges of curve radius. In case of KNR, the slack is calculated by a formula for each case of curve radius and it therefore seems quite precise method. However, since there is a wide range of slack adjustment $(S'=0\~15mm)$ in calculation formula itself, too excessive or too little slack can be calculated. This study is to approach the technical review on slack calculation and to offer the reasonable slack design through the full-scale experiment at sharp curved track without slack.

  • As a new technical approach, a hydraulic and magnetic clamp device was attempted to realize a magnetic clamp crane system that uses 8 simultaneously actuating individual hydraulic cylinders. Through this approach, a Sr type of ferritic permanent magnet ($SrO{\cdot}6Fe_2O_3$), not the previously employed electro-magnet, was utilized for the purpose of lifting and transporting the heavy weighted and oversized curved steel plates used for manufacturing the ships. This study is aimed at manufacturing and developing the hydraulic magnetic clamp prototype, which is composed of three main parts - the base frame, cylinder joint, and magnet joint - in order to safely transport such curved steel plates. Furthermore, this research was pursued to conduct a performance evaluation as to the prototype manufacture and acquire the planned quantity value and the development purpose items. The most significant item for a performance evaluation was estimated for the magnetic adhesive force (G) and in this process, a ferritic permanent magnet (Sr type) with 3700~4000 G of residual induction (Br) and 2640/2770 Oe of coercive force (Hc) was utilized. In addition, other relevant items such as hoist tension (kN), transportation time (sec), and the applied load (Kgf) exerted on the hydraulic cylinders were also evaluated in order to acquire the optimum quantity value. As a result of the evaluation, the relevant device turned out to be suitable for safely transporting the curved steel plates.

  • The analysis of nonlinear vibrations, buckling, post-buckling, flutter boundary determination and post-flutter behavior of a homogeneous curved plate assuming cylindrical bending is conducted in this article. Other assumptions include simply-supported boundary conditions, supersonic aerodynamic flow at the top of the plate, constant pressure conditions below the plate, non-viscous flow model (using first- and third-order piston theory), nonlinear structural model with large deformations, and application of mechanical and thermal loads on the curved plate. The analysis is performed with constant environmental indicators (flow density, heat, Reynolds number and Mach number). The material properties (i.e., coefficient of thermal expansion and modulus of elasticity) are temperature-dependent. The equations are derived using the principle of virtual displacement. Furthermore, based on the definitions of virtual work, the potential and kinetic energy of the final relations in the integral form, and the governing nonlinear differential equations are obtained after fractional integration. This problem is solved using two approaches. The frequency analysis and flutter are studied in the first approach by transferring the handle of ordinary differential equations to the state space, calculating the system Jacobin matrix and analyzing the eigenvalue to determine the instability conditions. The second approach discusses the nonlinear frequency analysis and nonlinear flutter using the semi-analytical solution of governing differential equations based on the weighted residual method. The partial differential equations are converted to ordinary differential equations, after which they are solved based on the Runge-Kutta fourth- and fifth-order methods. The comparison between the results of frequency and flutter analysis of curved plate is linearly and nonlinearly performed for the first time. The results show that the plate curvature has a profound impact on the instability boundary of the plate under supersonic aerodynamic loading. The flutter boundary decreases with growing thermal load and increases with growing curvature.

  • This paper starts with an approach to Korean traditional building design using BIM tool as a design methodology where Korean traditional buildings show some difference rather as weaknesses in handling curves and curved members and the construction. BIM design tools, that are adequate in treating modern architectural design vocabularies, show some disadvantages not having necessary elements and components as building libraries. In this paper we build our own libraries adequate to the proper assembling way of Korean traditional buildings. In contrast to the diverse use of straight building members, Korean traditional buildings show rare use of curves and/or curved members in their assemblage. Moreover, in the case of a circular plan, mostly a circle is interpreted in terms of polygons such as square, hexagon or octagon. In this paper, we examine Gwanram-Jung in Changduk Palace, which is probably the only example in Korea showing a use of curves and/or curved members in assemblage. We try to interpret the case as an incomplete prototype and apply in a modern way to complete a circular plan in terms of circular arcade.

  • The fatigue damage accumulation rates of horizontally curved thin walled box-girder bridge have been estimated from vehicle-induced dynamic stress history using rain flow cycle counting method in the time domain approach. The curved box-girder bridge has been numerically modeled using computationally efficient thin walled box-beam finite elements, which take into account the important structural actions like torsional warping, distortion and distortional warping in addition to the conventional displacement and rotational degrees of freedom. Vehicle model includes heave-pitch-roll degrees of freedom with longitudinal and transverse input to the wheels. The bridge deck unevenness, which is taken as inputs to the vehicle wheels, has been assumed to be a realization of homogeneous random process specified by a power spectral density (PSD) function. The linear damage accumulation theory has been applied to calculate fatigue life. The fatigue life estimated by cycle counting method in time domain has been compared with those found by estimating the PSD of response in frequency domain. The frequency domain method uses an analytical expression involving spectral moment characteristics of stress process. The effects of some of the important parameters on fatigue life of the curved box bridge have been studied.

  • Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) is performed for developing turbulent flow of the $270^{\circ}$ curved duct at a Reynolds number of 56,690. The curvature ratio on the basis of a centric radius $R_c$ and a duct height H is 3.357. Turbulence models adopted are k-$\omega$ model for Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation Simulation and Shear Stress Transport (SST) model for DES. DES is used as the hybrid computation technique combined with RANS-SST and Large Eddy Simulation (LES). Predicted results are compared with measured results including the distributions of Reynolds stresses and the flow characteristics on the symmetric plane of curved duct are presented. Judging from the comparison between the predicted and the measured results, the DES approach is applicable to calculate the developing turbulent flow in a $270^{\circ}$ curved duct.
