Augmentation of Fractional-Order PI Controller with Nonlinear Error-Modulator for Enhancing Robustness of DC-DC Boost Converters

  • This paper presents a robust-optimal control strategy to improve the output-voltage error-tracking and control capability of a DC-DC boost converter. The proposed strategy employs an optimized Fractional-order Proportional-Integral (FoPI) controller that serves to eliminate oscillations, overshoots, undershoots and steady-state fluctuations. In order to significantly improve the error convergence-rate during a transient response, the FoPI controller is augmented with a pre-stage nonlinear error-modulator. The modulator combines the variations in the error and error-derivative via the signed-distance method. Then it feeds the aggregated-signal to a smooth sigmoidal control surface constituting an optimized hyperbolic secant function. The error-derivative is evaluated by measuring the output-capacitor current in order to compensate the hysteresis effect rendered by the parasitic impedances. The resulting modulated-signal is fed to the FoPI controller. The fixed controller parameters are meta-heuristically selected via a Particle-Swarm-Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The proposed control scheme exhibits rapid transits with improved damping in its response which aids in efficiently rejecting external disturbances such as load-transients and input-fluctuations. The superior robustness and time-optimality of the proposed control strategy is validated via experimental results.

  • The torque of SRM depends on phase current and the derivative of inductance. But the inductance of SRM is nonlinearly changed according to rotor position angle and phase current because of saturation in magnetic circuit, and it is difficult to control the desired torque. This paper proposes inductance modeling method using ANN(Artificial Neural Network) that is used to simulate the inductance which is nonlinearly varied with rotor position and current. The torque ripple is analyzed and input voltage and current condition to reduce torque ripple is simulated by inductance model.

  • Pentacene has excellent semi-conducting characteristics. But pentacene practically used in OTFTs gives rise to problems mainly due to its sensitivity to oxygen and its very low solubility. In order to make up the problems, 6,13-disubstituted pentacene derivative was synthesized and characterized. The properties of the compound were characterized by FT-IR, NMR and we measured the charge transport mobility and the on/off current ratios.

  • Current studies on products of analytic functionals have been based on applying convolution products in D' and the Fourier exchange formula. There are very few results directly computed from the ultradistribution space Z'. The goal of this paper is to introduce a definition for the product of analytic functionals and construct a new multiplier space $F(N_m)$ for $\delta^{(m)}(s)$ in a one or multiple dimension space, where Nm may contain functions without compact support. Several examples of the products are presented using the Cauchy integral formula and the multiplier space, including the fractional derivative of the delta function $\delta^{(\alpha)}(s)$ for $\alpha>0$.

  • We report the origin of the improvement of the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of hybrid thin-film solar cells when a soluble C60 derivative, [6,6]-phenyl-$C_{61}$-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), is introduced as a hole-blocking layer. The PCBM layer could establish better interfacial contact by decreasing the reverse ark-saturation current density, resulting in a decrease in the probability of carrier recombination. The power conversion efficiency of this optimized device reached a maximum value of 8.34% and is the highest yet reported for hybrid thin-film solar cells.

  • Novel electroluminescent materials, polymer material, PU-BCN and low molar mass material, D-BCN with the same chromophores were designed and synthesized. A molecular structure of chromophore was composed of bisstyrylbenzene derivative with cyano groups as electron injection and transport and phenylamine groups as hole injection and transport. Device structures with PU-BCN and D-BCN as an emission layer were fa-bricated, which were a single-layer device(SL), Indium-tin oxide(ITO)/emission layer/MgAg, and two kinds of double-layer devices which were composed of ITO/emission layer/oxadiazole derivative/MgAg as a DL-E device and ITO/triphenylamine derivative/emission layer/MgAg as a DL-H device. The two emission materials, PU-BCN and D-BCN with the same emission-chromophore were evaluated as having excellent performance of charge injection and transport and revealed almost the same emission characteristics in high current density. EL emission maximum peaks of two material were detected at about 640 nm wavelength of red emission region.

  • In this paper, the design of a speed sensorless vector control system for induction motor is performed by using a new sliding mode technique based on current model flux observer. A current and flux observer based on the current estimation error is constructed. The proposed current observer includes a sliding mode function, which is derivative of the flux. That is, sliding mode observer which allows the estimation of both the rotor speed and flux based on the measurement of motor terminal quantities, would be proposed. And, a synergetic speed controller using the estimated speed signal is designed to stabilize the speed loop. Simulation results are presented to confirm the theoretical analysis, and to show the system performance with different observer gains and the influence of the motor parameter.

  • Accuracy improvement of a self-mixing semiconductor laser range finder is predicted by simulation, in which the laser modulation current is reshaped to give an ideal triangular waveform of the optical frequency change. The maximum range measurement error of less than 0.1% in a wide range of O.1m to 1m is expected by the reshaping of the modulation current. Experimental verification of the effect of current reshaping on the linearization of the derivative of the optical frequency change curve is given.

  • From the careful analysis of the transformed dq system equations of a PWM Voltage Source Converter ( PWM - VSC ), a novel voltage control is proposed which is based on the derivative of in-phase current component of line currents and the relation between dc-link voltage and in-phase current component. A simple logical algorithm to implement the proposed scheme is also presented at transient state. The sinusoidal PWM is adopted at steady state. The simulation results show good transient characteristics.

  • A distortion suppression technology for employing multiple inputs in 3n+1 type current mode Max circuit is proposed using the adjustment of transconductance. If the number of inputs in current mode Max circuit increases, the high frequency distortion in the output signal grows. In this paper, it has been disclosed that the distortion in the multiple input Max circuit is proportional to sum of parasitic capacitance in input terminals, to the derivative of the output signal and also to the inverse of transconductance of the common diode-connected transistor. The proposed idea is by employing as larger transconductance of the common diode-connected transistor as possible. The effectiveness of the proposed idea has been proved through the HSPICE simulation.
