Analysis on the Magnetic Field Distribution of Low-Tc Superconducting Power Supply Using Finite Element Method (유한요소법을 이용한 저온초전도전원장치의 자기장분포 해석)

  • Magnetic field distribution of rotating flux type Low-Tc superconducting (LTS) power supply with respect to the applied current on exciters is investigated in detail by using Finite Element Method (FEM). LTS power supply consists of two exciters, a rotor, a stator and superconductor foil attached to the inner surface of the stator and LTS load. The current pumping of LTS power supply is induced by partial-quenching and recovery of superconductor foil. For this reason, magnetic flux density on superconductor foil must be sufficiently greater than the its critical magnetic density. In this analysis, the normal spot on superconductor foil appears more than 10A of excitation current. The results of this analysis are calculated and compared with the experimental results.

  • Several power factor correction(PFC) circuits are presented to achieve high PF electronic ballast for both voltage-fed and current-fed electronic ballast. The proposed PFC circuits use valley-fill(VF) type DC-link stages modified from the conventional VF circuit to adopt the charge pumping method for PFC operations during the valley intervals. In voltage-fed ballast, charge pump capacitors are connected with the resonant capacitors. In current-fed type, the charge pump capacitors are connected with the additional secondary-side of the power transformer. The measured PF and THD are higher than 0.99 and 15% for all proposed PFC circuits. The lamp current CF is also acceptable in the proposed circuits. The proposed circuit is suitable for implementing cost-effective electronic ballast.

  • This paper presents temperature control of aluminum plate using Peltier module. As one of the thermoelectric effect, Peltier effect is heat pumping phenomena by electric energy. So if current is charged to Peltier module, it absorbs heat from low temperature side and emits heat to high temperature side. In this experiment, Peltier module is used to control the temperature of small aluminum plate with heating and cooling ability of Peltier module with current control and fan On/OFF control. And current control of Peltier module was accomplished by PWM method. As a results of experiments, it takes about 125sec to control temperature of aluminium plate between $30^{\circ}C\;and\;70^{\circ}C$ and about 70sec between $40^{\circ}C\;and\;60^{\circ}C$, in ambient temperature $29^{\circ}C$ while operating cooling fan only while cooling duration. Future aim is to realize more rapid temperature control and develop SMHA(special metal hydride actuator) by using Peltier module as a heating and cooling source.

  • The magnetic field standard below 1 mT with the resolution of 0.26 nT has been established. Earth magnetic field (EMF) is compensated automatically down to 0.1 nT/10 min. by a closed feedback system with Cs optical pumping magnetometer and 3-axis Helmholtz coils in nonmagnetic facilities. A multi-layer precision solenoid with the optimized single-current method generates the uniform magnetic field better than 1.0$\times$10$\^$-7/ within $\pm$ 1 cm region at its center. The coil constant of solenoid determined from Helium optical pumping magnetometer is 1.231 058 9 mT/A, and temperature coefficient is 0.38 nT/$\^{C}$. This standard system is used for calibration of low field magnetometers and testing relates to low field.

  • Three activation methods (constant voltage, current cycling, and hydrogen pumping) were applied to investigate the effects on the performance of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA) loaded with PtCo/C catalyst. The current cycling protocol took the shortest time to activate the MEA, while the performance after activation was the worst among the all activation methods. The constant voltage method took a moderate activation time and exhibited the best performance after activation. The hydrogen pumping protocol took the longest time to activate the MEA with moderate performance after activation. According to the distribution of relaxation time analysis, the improved performance after the activation mainly comes from the decrease of charge transfer resistance rather than the ionic resistance in the cathode catalyst layer, which suggests that the existence of water on the electrode is the key factor for activation.

  • Effects of post-metallization anneal (PMA) on interface trap characteristics of Si-$SiO_2$ are studied. The conventional PMA method utilizes forming gas anneal, where 10% hydrogen in nitrogen atmosphere is used. A new PMA method utilizes hydrogen rich PECVD- silicon nitride $(SiN_x)$ film as a hydrogen diffusion source and a out-diffusion blocking layer. It can be shown through charge pumping current measurement that the new PMA is indeed effective to decrease Si-$SiO_2$ interface trap density.

  • This paper presents the temperature control of aluminum plate by using Peltier element. Peltier effect is heat pumping phenomena by electric energy as one of the thermoelectric effect. So if current is charged to Peltier element, it absorbs heat from low temperature side and emits heat to high temperature side. In this experiment, Peltier element is used to control the temperature of small aluminum plate with current control and operating cooling fan only while cooling duration. Operating cooling fan only while cooling duration is proper to get more rapid heating and cooling duration. As a result of experiment, it takes about 100sec period to repeating temperature between $35^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ and about 80sec from $40^{\circ}C$ to $70^{\circ}C$ in ambient air temperature $25^{\circ}C$ and while operating cooling fan only in cooling duration. Future aim is to apply this temperature control method in actuating SMHA(special metal hydride actuator) which is applicable in Siver project acting in low frequency range by using Peltier element for heating and cooling.

  • Prototype of $800{\ell}$ vacuum web coater (Vic Mama) consisting of ion source with low energy less than 250 eV for high speed surface modification and 4 magnetron sputter cathodes was designed and constructed. Its performance was evaluated through fabricating the adhesiveless flexible copper clad laminate (FCCL). Pumping speed was monitored in both upper noncoating zone pumped down by 2 turbo pumps with 2000 l/sec pumping speed and lower surface modification and sputter zone vacuumed by turbo pumps with 450 1/sec and 1300 1/sec pumping speed respectively. Ion current density, plasma density, and uniformity of ion beam current were measured using Faraday cup and the distribution of magnetic field and erosion efficiency of sputter target were also investigated. With the irradiation of ion beams on polyimide (Kapton-E, $38{\mu}m$) at different fluences, the change of wetting angle of the deionized water to polyimide surface and those of surface chemical bonding were analyzed by wetting anglometer and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. After investigating the deposition rate of Ni-Cr tie layer and Cu layer was investigated with the variations of roll speed and input power to sputter cathode. FCCL fabricated by sputter and electrodeposition method and characterized in terms of the peel strength, thermal and chemical stability.

Characterization of Hot Carrier Mechanism of Nano-Scale CMOSFETs (나노급 소자의 핫캐리어 특성 분석)

  • It is shown that the hot carrier degradation due to enhanced hot holes trapping dominates PMOSFETs lifetime both in thin and thick devices. Moreover, it is found that in 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOSFET the PMOS lifetime under CHC (Channel Hot Carrier) stress is lower than the NMOSFET lifetime under DAHC (Drain Avalanche Hot Carrier) stress. Therefore. the interface trap generation due to enhanced hot hole injection will become a dominant degradation factor. In case of thick MOSFET, the degradation by hot carrier is confirmed using charge pumping current method and highly necessary to enhance overall device lifetime or circuit lifetime in upcoming nano-scale CMOS technology.
