  • The morphology and mechanical properties of epoxy/polyamide/MPD/2E4MZ-CN reactive blends with various amount of catalyst were investigated. The cure behaviors, mechanical strengths, and morphological changes of the epoxy blend systems were analyzed by using DSC, UTM, and SEM, respectively. The amount of catalyst ranged from 0 to 3 phr, and the cure reaction occurred at $170^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The maximum peaks in heat flow during cure reactions appeared at slightly lower temperature with increasing catalyst content, indicating that the cure reactions start at lower temperature by adding catalyst and polyamide rarely hinders the cure reaction paths. The co-continuous morphology was found in epoxy/polyamide(20 phr) blends and by adding catalyst to the blends much clearer and uniform co-continuous phase was observed. The surface tension of the mechanical test specimen was increased due to the AP plasma surface treatment, and then adhesion strength was increased by over 20% by adding 2 phr of catalyst to the blends. When considering morphological tuning of the blends by means of catalyst incorporation, it is expected that the increased elongation and adhesion strength can be achieved in the structural adhesive systems.

  • Effect of fixation methods on the flame retardant(FR) and performance properties of MDPPA/HMM treated cotton fabrics were studied. Combination of three different fixation methods - premercerization, swelling agent treatment, pad dry cure fixation, and wet fixation - were applied to flame retardant finish of cotton with MDPPA/HMM. As a result, an increase in internal volume of cotton fiber by pre-mercerization and addition of swelling agent, and wet fixation increased %add-on of FR agent improving FR efficiency and wash fastness. Tensile strength of MDPPA/HMM treated cotton fabrics by wet fixation and swelling agent were slightly decreased, but that of premercerized cotton was improved. Wet fixated fabric showed lower bending rigidity and better compressional properties which improved fabric hand. Retention of swelling ability of cotton treated with MDPPA/HMM improved moisture absorption properties.

  • The Mechanical strength and the electrical insulation properties of the Epoxy Resin vary with the formation of chemical reactions between Epoxy and curing agent. Therefore, to study their reactions is important for understanding the properties of the cured Epoxy. In this paper, to get the cured Epoxy having good electrical insulation property, it is studied the effects of the surrounding temperature during the cure process on the property of the cured Epoxy. In the experiment, Epoxy is cured with the surrounding temperature varied between -5[$^{\circ}C$] to 50[$^{\circ}C$]. As the results, it follows that the higher the temperature is, the faster the cross-link process is.

  • A thiazole type accelerator MBT (2-mercapto benzothiazole) was added into silica filled natural rubber (NR) compound with various concentrations (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 phr). The effects of MBT on the cure rate, mechanical property, degree of rubber-filler interaction (${\alpha}_F$), crosslinking density, and viscoelastic property ($tan{\delta}$) were investigated. As accelerator concentration increased, the $t_{s2}$ and $t_{90}$ decreased and the crosslinking density and modulus at 300% elongation increased. The tensile strength and elongation increased up to 3 phr and no further increased at 4 phr. The $tan{\delta}$ value measured at room temperature was higher than that of the $70^{\circ}C$. The ${\alpha}_F$ value was not affected by the addition of MBT. The mechanisms for the vulcanization rate were reviewed.

  • In general, butyl rubber(IIR : isobutylene isoprene rubber) has excellent gas permeability resistance and impact absorbance property as low resilience elastomer. In this experiment butyl rubber blends with EPDM(ethylene propylene diene monomer) were prepared by mechanical mixing method. Curing behavior, physical properties and ozone resistance etc. were subsequently examined. Measurement results of gas transmission rate test shows that butyl rubber contents above 50 wt% showed significant decrease in gas permeability resistant property. However, in butyl rubber/EPDM blend, EPDM contents above 25 wt% indicates no surface change due to improvement of ozone resistance under the condition of 50 pphm, $50^{\circ}C$, 120 hrs.

  • Room temperature cure type of acryl-urethane coatings with high solid content were prepared in this study. Acrylic resins with 80% solid content were cured with hexamethylene diisocyanate (Desmodure N-3600). The cure time of prepared coatings BEHCC-84 (BEHC-84 : $T_g=0^{\circ}C$) and BEHCC-87 (BEHC-87 : $T_g=30^{\circ}C$), measured by rigid-body pendulum method, was recorded 8.3 hours and 3.8 hours, respectively. Dynamic viscoelastic experiment also revealed the glass transition temperature of BEHCC-84 and BEHCC-87 to be $T_g=40.3^{\circ}C$ and $T_g=43.3^{\circ}C$, respectively. It was found that the adhesion and flexural properties among various propeties of coatings were enhanced by the incorporation of caprolactone acrylate monomer into the acrylic resins.

  • An adequate and homogeneous cure of light-activated restroative material is very important for improvement of marginal adaptation and prevention of marginal leakage, secondary caries and pulpal irritation as well as expressing natural physical property of that material. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the change of surface hardness and cure uniformity of light-activated glass ionomer cements. Restorative(Fuji II LC, Vitremer) and lining(Baseline VLC, Vitrebond) light-activated glass ionomer cements were investigated for this study. The surface hardness of the top and bottom surfaces and cure uniformity of each 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm & 3mm in the thickness of specimen were measured immediately, at 1 hour, 24 hours and 1 week after light activation. The surface hardness change and cure uniformity of all the specimens were measured by Knoop hardness tester. The results were as follows. 1. The surface hardness of top and bottom surfaces in all groups increased with time(p<0.01). 2. Both top and bottom surfaces hardness of Vitrebond group measured immediately after light-activation were significantly lower than those of the other groups(p<0.01). 3. The surface hardness of top and bottom surfaces of restorative light -activated glass ionomer cements was higher than those of lining materials at 1 week(p<0.10). 4. Surface hardness of Vitremer group decreased as the specimen thickness increased, except top and bottom surfaces hardness of the specimen at 1 week(p<0.01). There was no significant difference in the surface hardness of Fuji II LC with changes in the thickness except bottom surface hardness of specimen at 24 hours and 1 week (p>0.05). 5. Surface hardness of Vitrebond group significantly decreased as the specimen thickness increased(p<0.01). There was no significant difference in the surface hardness of Baseline VLC group with changes in the thickness except bottom surface hardness of specimen measured immediately after light -activation(p>0.05). 6. The hardness ratio of top against bottom surface in all groups decreased with time(p<0.05). 7. There was no significant difference in the hardness ratio of top against bottom surface with changes of the thickness except Vitrebond group, 24 hours and 1 week of Vitremer group and 1 week of Baseline VLC group (p>0.05). These results suggest that surface hardness of restorative ligh-activated glass ionomer cements were highter than those of lining light-activated materials. In all groups, the surface hardness and cure uniformity continuously increased with time.

  • The new epoxy resin, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A(DGEBA)/4, 4'-methylene dianiline (MDA)/succinonitrile system, containing the reactive additive succionitrile was investigated through the impact test and the stress-strain test on the basis of the behavior of cure reaction and the cure mechanism. The new epoxy resin system, having the different succinonitrile contents, were cured at $80^{\circ}C$for 1.5 hour and then in order to cure completely at $150^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. It was shown that as the succinonitrile content increased, impact strength was gradually increased, tensile strength was decreased, almost constantly Young's modulus was sustained and elongation was increased until the succinonitrile content was increased to 10phr, and then decreased. From the experimental results, it can be concluded that the chemical bonding length between the main chains was extended by adding the reactive additive succinonitrile. It was also found that the flexibility of epoxy resin was improved by adding the succinonitrile.

  • Background and Objectives : There are four kinds of formulas for invigorating the kidney to cure its asthenic syndrome based on the types of preparation formulas : Boshintang, Boshinhwan, Boshinsan, and Boshingaeng. There are 16 kinds of Boshintang, 28 kinds of Boshinhwan, 3 kinds of Boshinsan, and one kind of Boshingaeng. Combination of herbal medicines, carried out in formulas for invigorating the kidney, consists of various kinds depending on medical scientists' personal experience in medical treatment without any general principles, which makes it difficult to apply it to clinical use. The objectives of this study lie in theoretical establishment of Boshintang for curing the asthenic syndrome of kidney through analyzing the component medicines and combination principles of Hyeongok's Boshintang, and furthermore, maximizing the clinical use of Boshintang. Methods : This study analyzed the component medicines and combination principles of Hyeongok's Boshintang based on the theory for properties and tastes of herbal medicines from the ${\ulcorner}$Yellow Emperor's Canon of Internal Medicine${\lrcorner}$ , the theory for principal herbal medicine, assistant herbal medicine, adjuvant herbal medicine, dispatcher herbal medicine, and the five elements doctrine. Hyeongok's Boshintang is an even prescription, composed of 6 kinds of ingredients : No.1 Fructus Lycii (3don;11.25g), No.2 Radix Polygoni Multiflori (1don:3.75g), No.3 Sarcucarpium Corni (1don), No.4 Fructus Schisandrae (1don), No.5 Rhizoma Anemarrhenae (5poon: 1.875g), and No.6 Cortex Phellodendri (5poon) Results : There are three methods for curing the asthenic syndrome of kidney according to the five elements doctrine : invigorating the kidney, invigorating the lung and purging the spleen. First, if you suffer from the asthenic syndrome of the kidney, you need to invigorate your kidney. There are two available methods, including taste and property invigoration according to the theory for properties and tastes of herbal medicines. They each imply the bitter taste and the cold property invigorate the kidney. In the case of taste invigoration, two herbal medicines with bitter taste, Fructus Lycii and Radix Polygoni Multiflori, are combined into the principal and assistant herbal medicine, respectively. For property invigoration, two herbal medicines with the cold property, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae and Cortex Phellodendri, are combined into adjuvant herbal medicines. Secondly, if you suffer from the asthenic syndrome of the kidney, you need to invigorate your lung which is mother in the mother-child relationship in inter-promotion among the five elements. There are two methods to invigorate the lung, including taste and property invigoration according to the theory for properties and tastes of herbal medicines. They each mean the sour taste and the cool property invigorate the lung. Therefore, it is important to use sour herbal medicines for taste invigoration and cool ones for property invigoration. Both bitter and cool herbal medicines, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae and Cortex Phellodendri, are combined into adjuvant herbal medicines. Lastly, if you suffer from the asthenic syndrome of the kidney, you need to purge your spleen which is an element being surpassed in the relationship between the elements surpassed and ones not surpassed in inter-restraint among the five elements. There are two methods to purge the spleen, which include taste and property purgation according to the theory for properties and tastes of herbal medicines. Taste purgation means to purge the spleen with bitter taste and property purgation to purge the spleen with cool property. Therefore, it is important to use bitter herbal medicines for taste purgation and cool ones for property purgation. Both bitter and cool herbal medicines, Rhizome Anemarrhenae and Cortex Phellodendri. were combined to purge the spleen and invigorate the kidney. In addition, Rhizome Anemarrhenae and Cortex Phellodendri are combined as dispatcher herbal medicine, reinforcing the kidney energy. Conclusions : First, to cure the asthenic syndrome of the kidney, the methods of invigorating the kidney and the lung, and purging the spleen should be used according to the five elements doctrine. Secondly, herbal medicines appropriate for those treatment methods should be chosen according to the theory for properties and tastes of herbal medicine and thirdly, the combination of those herbal medicines should be carried out according to the theory for principal herbal medicine, assistant herbal medicine, adjuvant herbal medicine, dispatcher herbal medicine. As a good example, Hyeongok's Boshintang is combined according to the above theories. In conclusion, this formula was created by applying to the theory for properties and tastes of herbal medicines.
