  • Based upon the research and analysis on the downtown residents' satisfaction with their current housing areas and preference for future housing areas, this study clarifies the following. First, the breakdown on various factors influencing the housing environment indicates that downtown residents are the most satisfied with the easy access to the public transportation, and cultural and commercial facilities. Second, they are not content with the amenity aspects such as the air, noise, and the surrounding views, and the economic aspects such as the prices of the houses and the prospects for future investment. The low satisfaction suggests that the amenity aspects and economic aspects should be considered for future downtown housing development. Third, more than half of the residents in downtown areas still prefer to dwell in downtown areas. In the future downtown development, the close analysis on the characteristics of downtown dwelling, and the researches on the right direction of downtown housing development for the whole citizens of Daegu should be done in advance. Last, the majority of people wishing to reside in downtown want medium- or large-scale apartment complexes. In the future downtown housing development, it should be focused on the downtown residence with complex functions rather than on the small-scale maintenance projects.

  • Purpose: The purpose of present study was to discover the experience of the body of aged women, having had disease. Thus, the researcher tried to explore the perception of the informants and the context in which this perception emerged. Methods: 9 aged women who had disease or trauma were recruited by snow balling and theoretical sampling methods. The iterative data collection and analyzing process proceeded between September, 1999 and January, 2005. Questions posed to the informants included: "What major change in your body comes from the disease?" "How did you feel about yourself after having had disease?". Data from interviews and participant observation was taken as text. The text was analyzed using the ongoing process of qualitative content analysing method and taxonomy of Spradley. Results: Disease gives aged women a chance to reinforce the meaning of their body: the body as the most low valued component of a human, the body as a wholistic field of interacting each component of human and with natural environment and cosmos, and the body as a source of group identity. These meanings were constructed in their life world by the rules of hierarchy, reciprocity, and group cohesiveness. Conclusions: The human body is constructed as a cultural being by a social process. Nursing is concerned with the biological body and the social body. The results of this study can serve to help understand the socialization of the body and to construct a somology of nursing.

  • Traditional Chinese operas are time-honored art form, they are vivid in expression, rich in content, embody social, thought-provoking, historical and artistic value. And as a splendid art form and part of China's brilliant traditional cultural heritage, traditional Chinese operas have been developed with Chinese history from generation to generation. Nowadays, with the comprehensive national strength increasingly growing, Chinese government is giving more and more importance to enhance people's awareness of protecting traditional Chinese opera. In actual fact, both Chinese scholars and the other scholars who have done some research in traditional Chinese operas and built up solid foundation for further study. Even though, traditional Chinese operas have not been fully understood by people outside the 5000-year-old civilization, especially what is the close relationship between the apparel and accessories and the names of dramas. Based on this condition, the paper selects and summarizes names of apparel and accessories in traditional Chinese dramas as its thesis, intending to explore the relationship between the apparel and accessories and the names of dramas, analyzing how such names in dramas highlight themes and promote the development of unique storylines. The paper will help Western readers further understand the meaning of traditional operas names' behind these costumes and promote Chinese traditional dramas spreading to abroad.

  • Isoflavone was extracted with various concentration of aqueous methanol using whole hypocotyls as the starting material. Whole hypocotyls were preferred as the raw material because the residue could be easily removed from the solvent after the extraction process. Extraction yield was almost constant at the methanol concentration of $20-80\%$. Most of the isoflavone was extracted within 1 hr, and the extraction yield remained almost constant thereafter. When the concentration of methanol was $80\%$, the content of total solid was reduced due to the reduced extraction of contaminating protein as the result of protein insolubilization. Among resins tested, Diaion HP-20, Amberlite XAD-16, and Amberlite IRC-50 showed the highest capacity to absorb the compound. Open column chromatography with Diaion HP-20 showed that $80\%$ aqueous ethanol was most efficient as the eluting solvent with final recovery of the phytochemical being more than $95\%$. Maximum adsorption of the phytochemical occurred at the acidic pH 2-4. When the spatial velocity was increased to 15 and more, the degree of adsorption was decreased, whereas below spatial velocity of 15, the adsorption capacity of isoflavone to the resin was almost constant. The purity of the isoflavone purified by column chromatography was $78\%$.

  • An exhibit entitled 'Revelatory Landscapes' was held at the San Francisco Museum of Modem Art from May 5 to October 14, 2001. For this Museum's rot off-site outdoor exhibition, five outstanding design teams-Kathryn Gustafson, Hargreaves Associates, Hood Design, Tom Leader Studio, and ADOBE LA-created site-specific installations in Berkeley, Oakland, San Jose, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Each project showcased a hybridization of environmental art and landscape design. The main content revealed through revelatory landscapes were the natural, cultural, and historical palimpsest of the sites-particularly as related to the history of minorities such as Native American, African Americans and Latin Americans-as well as the every day life of ordinary people. To represent these ideas, a juxtaposition of the past and the present was broadly applied. Furthermore, the use of dramatic colors, textures, and forms in consideration of materials coupled with the revelation of natural elements such as wind and sunlight accelerated the effect of this juxtaposition. Every project of the Revelatory Landscapes exhibit requires a phenomenological experience to be appreciated. Via the five senses, these experiences cause a synesthetic experience beyond solely the visual. By examining the projects of 'Revelatory landscapes', the threshold for a new blending between environmental art and landscape design as well as new landscape design strategies that overcome the dichotomy between nature and culture will change and evolve.

  • Wood deterioration experiments were carried out for 6 months in an intertidal zone of South Korea to monitor the changes in the chemical properties of two types of species, Korean red pine and sawtooth oak. The results of FT-IR spectra and XRD patterns have shown that the chemical properties of the wood did not change significantly during the 6-month burial period. However, the brightness of the surface decreased after burial; the value of the sawtooth oak sample was lower than that of the Korean red pine sample owing to an accumulation of inorganic compounds in cell lumen as observed by ICP analysis. Among the inorganic compounds, sodium and sulfur concentrations increased significantly over the burial period compared with the control. Further, the maximum moisture content decreased from 199% to 136% in the Korean red pine and 62% to 60% for the sawtooth oak. Nevertheless, the major chemical composition of both the wood species did not change significantly during the 6-month burial period, whereas, the crystallinity decreased with an increasing burial period owing to an accumulation of inorganic compounds in the lumen.
