Values of Infographics for Promoting Cultural Learning Resources and Tourist Attractions: A Case of Patum Village in Thailand

  • Infographics are influential and valuable communication tools for providing information, and can be used for promoting cultural learning resources and cultural tourism destinations. Therefore, this article presents values of using infographics for promoting Patum's culture and tourism in Phrao District, Chiang Mai, Thailand as cultural learning resources and tourist attractions. Employing a research and development approach, this study utilized three distinct instruments: (1) an interview form engaging 40 locals to uncover insights on promoting Patum village, (2) an assessment form evaluated by three arts and design experts, and (3) questionnaires distributed to 92 participants to gauge perceptions and satisfaction. The findings showcased the high quality and appropriateness of the eight infographics. Audiences derived six key values, including acquiring knowledge, fostering the promotion of Patum's culture, festivals, religions and beliefs, deriving aesthetic enjoyment, encouraging cultural tourism, contributing to the education sector, and enhancing comprehension of Patum's history. Participants expressed high satisfaction ($\bar{x}$=4.46) with the infographic use. The developed infographics are usable and valuable information to help audiences recognize Patum cultural learning resources and tourist destinations. They might be further tailored to the recognition of Patum village in the near future, affecting the area's development by increasing local people's incomes through cultural learning resources and tourism activities.

  • Local festivals quite often give their visitors and local residents a good opportunity to experience the regional culture thoroughly. Also, the festivals empower the cultural pride and communal sociality, and create new jobs improving local economy. In Korea, more than 700 local festivals are held every year. Each festival is organized and operated upon all different purpose and mission. It is unfortunate, however, that many festivals fail to balance between making profits and accomplishing their purpose. Festival's marketing plan and content management should be cohesive, but at the same time, they also should be different depending on the festival's purpose and program. Especially in case of performance natured festivals, the role and function of festival directing should be more weighed on content management. Namhaean Byeolsingut is one of performance natured festivals, in which its archetype or primitive form is well maintained. This study observes the primitive form of NB from the director's viewpoint, and then provides a solid foundation on how those main characteristics of NB could be applied to invigorating local festival directing. The directing suggestions here are motivated by NB's ritual, performative, and play form.

  • Tongyeong International Music Festival was established to commemorate the world-renowned composer Isang Yun. Despite its short history, the event is quickly grown into a global music festival. This paper considers the future direction of Tongyeong International Music Festival as seen through the musical world of Isang Yun. Although Isang Yun suffered through Korea's modern history and was deported from his own country, his works clearly use Korea, in particular the cultural heritage of Tongyeong, as his creative energy. His music is reflected in the festival in various forms, i.e., East and West, past and present, North and South and maestro and rookie, while pursuing a world of harmony. In order for Tongyeong International Music Festival to join the ranks of global festivals, an effort needs to be made to find the values from the tangible and intangible cultural resources of Tongyeong, the source of Isang Yun's musical creations, and connect these values to the music festival. I believe that, based on such cultural capacity, when Tongyeong International Music Festival becomes a unique festival that differentiates itself from music festivals in the west, it will advance into the successful music festival of a global music city.

  • As there have been many cases where successful regional festivals acts as the promotion of regional brand images and as the driving force of regional economic development, changes in awareness that significantly accepts external promotion effects and the commercial value of regional festivals are greatly expanding. When seen from this perspective, the regional festival, which has Tojeong Lee Ji-Ham, a scholar in the Joseon Dynasty period in the 16th century and Geolincheong as subject matter, is expected to contribute greatly to the establishment of Chungnam Asan region's identity and to the vitalization of the regional economy. He is one of the all-time eccentrics and at the same time he is an intellectual who practiced innovative spirit of the times and a sense of economy for the relief and self-support of common people and the balanced development of the nation during his life. In this sense, the regional festival that is based on Lee Ji-Ham's Geolincheong has meaning and values as a cultural content from and device, which realizes and continues the spirit of the times and the thoughts that he pursued, in the modern context in time and space.

  • This study aims to suggest profitability models of local cultural festival to be a focal point of local culture to overcome the abuses as an annual event led by the local government agencies have been in force in every local areas currently, to elicit the local residents' voluntary participation and to engage the outside tourists in connection of a more effective promotion and marketing.   • While myriads of small and large festivals are being organized in many regions across the country after the successful establishment of local governments around 2000, the undeniable fact is that the identity and purpose of such events are not properly reflected in their programs. This paper carefully examines the 2017 Jeonju International Sori Festival as an exemplary case of a local performing art festival to contribute to the improvement of performing art festivals in the future. In particular, it focuses on a musical program with respect to the composition, content, meaning, and direction that can effectively reveal the identity and intention of a festival. The most significant accomplishment of the 2017 Jeonju International Sori Festival is that it presented a local cultural resource, Pansori, in various ways not only to manifest its identity but also to satisfy both the enthusiasts of such musical genre and the general audience. The achievements of the 2017 Jeonju International Sori Festival through the performing art program can be summarized as follows: first, it created a new image of traditional music; second, it realized the desire to rise above regional and generational demarcations through cultural communication; third, it provided a stage for budding and local artists; fourth, it served as a vehicle for summoning the public; and last, it was conducive to expanding the spectrum of potential audience. This paper has limitation in covering the subject of the improvement of performing art festivals because it analyzed only one event. In follow-up studies, a more objective discussion should be performed by further analyzing the 2017 Jeonju International Sori Festival in comparison with various other performing art festivals.

  • In this study, a unit of regional tourism as a cluster of innovative strategies that can be an assumption that the activation of tourism clusters building on local festivals and participated to review the empirical aims.
