  • We consider initial value problems for the semirelativistic Hartree type equations with cubic convolution nonlinearity $F(u)=(V*{\mid}u{\mid}^2)u$. Here V is a sum of two Coulomb type potentials. Under a specified decay condition and a symmetric condition for the potential V we show the global existence and scattering of solutions.

  • One of the most important quantities in reliability theory is the expected number of renewals of a system during a given interval. This quantity, the renewal function, is used to determine the optimal preventive maintenance policy and to estimate the cost of a warranty. In this paper we study a parametric approach for a renewal function. The simulation study is presented to compare the relative performance of the introduced estimators of a renewal function. And we show that the proposed parametric estimator performs well.

  • There have been numerous studies on the enhancement of the noisy speech signal. In this paper, we propose a completely new speech enhancement scheme, that is, a filtering of a dissonant frequency (especially F# in each octave of the tempered scale) based on the fundamental frequency which is developed in frequency domain. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed enhancement scheme, subjective tests (MOS tests) were conducted. The subjective test results indicate that the proposed method provides a significant gain in audible improvement especially for speech contaminated by colored noise and speaking in a husky voice. Therefore when the filter is employed as a pre-filter for speech enhancement, the output speech quality and intelligibility is greatly enhanced.

  • In this paper the approximation methods of offset curve of conic with explicit error bound are considered. The quadratic approximation of conic(QAC) method, the method based on quadratic circle approximation(BQC) and the Pythagorean hodograph cubic(PHC) approximation have the explicit error bound for approximation of offset curve of conic. We present the explicit upper bound of the Hausdorff distance between the offset curve of conic and its PHC approximation. Also we show that the PHC approximation of any symmetric conic is closer to the line passing through both endpoints of the conic than the QAC.

  • A joint design scheme is proposed to optimize the up/down scaler and the motion vector estimation module in the transcoder system. The proposed scheme first optimizes the resolution scaler for a fixed motion vector, and then a new motion vector is estimated for the fixed scaler. These two steps are iteratively repeated until they reach a local optimum solution. In the optimization of the scaler, we derive an adaptive version of a cubic convolution interpolator to enlarge or reduce digital images by arbitrary scaling factors. The adaptation is performed at each macroblock of an image. In order to estimate the optimal motion vector, a temporary motion vector is composed from the given motion vectors. Then the motion vector is refined over a narrow search range. It is well-known that this refinement scheme provides the comparable performance compared to the full search method. Simulation results show that a jointly optimized system based on the proposed algorithms outperforms the conventional systems. We can also see that the algorithms exhibit significant improvement in the minimization of information loss compared with other techniques.

  • A computer program has been developed to estimate time-domain electromagnetic (EM) responses for a onedimensional model with multiple source and receiver dipoles that are finite in length. The time-domain solution can be obtained by applying an inverse fast Fourier transform (FFT) to frequency-domain fields for efficiency. Frequency-domain responses are first obtained for 10 logarithmically equidistant frequencies per decade, and then cubic spline interpolated to get the FFT input. In the case of phases, the phase curve must be made to be continuous prior to the spline interpolation. The spline interpolated data are convolved with a source current waveform prior to FFT. In this paper, only a step-off waveform is considered. This time-domain code is verified with an analytic solution and EM responses for a marine hydrocarbon reservoir model. Through these comparisons, we can confirm that the accuracy of the developed program is fairly high.

  • This paper presents an shifted linear interpolation method with an image-dependent parameter. The previous shifted linear interpolation proposed the optimal shift parameter of 0.21, which is calculated by spectrum analysis of the shifted linear interpolation kernel. However, the parameter can be different if we takes an input image spectrum into account. Thus, we introduce an image-dependent parameter. An experiment shows the best shift parameter is 0.19 in average for real images. Also, simulation results indicate the proposed method is superior to the existing shifted linear interpolation as well as conventional methods such as linear interpolation and cubic convolution interpolation in terms of the subjective and objective image quality.

  • Assessment of image registration for Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) was performed. A 16 bit camera and LED lamp were used with Uni-FIB paint (ISSI). Because of model displacement and deformation at 'wind-on' condition, a large error of the intensity ratio was induced between 'wind-on' and' wind-off images. To correct the error, many kinds of image registrations were tested. At first, control points were marked on the model surface to find the coefficients of polynomial transform functions between the 'wind-off' 'wind-on' images. The 2nd-order polynomial function was sufficient for representing the model displacement and deformation. An automatic detection scheme was introduced to find the exact coordinates of the control points. The present automatic detection algorithm showed more accurate and user-friendly than the manual detection algorithm. Since the coordinates of transformed pixel were not integer, five interpolation methods were applied to get the exact pixel intensity after transforming the 'wind-on' image. Among these methods, the cubic convolution interpolation scheme gave the best result.
