The wettability and rheological properties of solder paste with the size of the solder powder were evaluated. To formulate the solder paste, three types of solder powder were used: T4 (20~28 ㎛), T5 (15~25 ㎛), and T6 (5~15 ㎛). The viscosities of the T4, T5, and T6 solder pastes at 10 RPM were 155, 263, and 418 Pa·s, respectively. After 7 days, the viscosity of the T4 solder paste slightly increased by 2.6% and that of T5 was increased by 20.6%. The viscosity of the T6 solder paste after 7 days could not be measured due to high viscosity. The viscosity variation with solder particle size also affected on the printability of the solder. In the case of the T4 solder paste, printability, slump, bridging, and soldering properties were excellent. On the other hand, T5 showed slight dewetting and solder ball defects. Especially, T6, which the smallest powder size, showed poor printability and dewetting at the edge of solder.
1-(2-Pyridylazo)-2-Naphthol (PAN) has been widely used as a spectrophotometric reagent and metallochromic indicator for many metal ions. In this work, the chelate reagent of PAN was used as mobile phase additive for the separation of metal ions by reversed phase chromatography. Metal ions could be detected by monitoring the effluent at 570 nm with spectrophotometric detector. In order to investigate retention behaviors of the metal ions, the chromatograms and capacity factors were obtained as the variation of pH, ionic strength and composition of organic modifier in mobile phase. Under the obtained optimum conditions, the mixtures of Fe(III), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Co(II) could be separated successfully and the calibration curves under the recommended conditions showed an excellent linearity. The detection limits(S/N) were feasible at the nanogram level.

We report the method of preventing the grey color of Bi based glass frits caused by reduction of $Bi_2O_3$. To prevent reduction of $Bi_2O_3$, we controlled the melting temperature. Low melting temperature reduces the reduction of $Bi_2O_3$ and that makes clarity transparent glass cullets. After firing, glass frits that melted at lower temperature showed better transparency. To prevent the browning, we used some additives like CuO, $CeO_2$, CoO and $TiO_2$. The colors of glass cullets were varied according to additives. After firing, dielectric layer contained additives showed better transparency than the one without additives. In the point of reaction between dielectric layer and Ag electrode, CuO was the most effective additive in preventing the yellowing.

Rice is a staple food source in Asian countries. In paddy field, rice plant can take up toxic elements through its roots from contaminated soils, and its leaves and grain can absorb the toxic elements deposited on the soil surface. A totla of 40 soil and polished rice samples were collected around four abandoned metal mines in Korea and analyzed for As, Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn by atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The average contents of As, Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in rice grain grown on the contaminated soils were 0.247, 0.174, 4.694, 0.804 and 16.78 mg/kg, respectively. These levels are higher than worldwide average concentrations. Assuming the rice consumption of 169 g/day by overall households in Korea, the estimated daily intakes from the rices were found to be 33, 48, and 63% for As, Cd, and Pb, respectively, of the acceptable daily intake (ADI) suggested by the FAO/WHO Joint Food Additive and Contaminants Committee.

Abstract The increasing application of $Al_2$,$O_3$ and related ceramics as engineering materials is because of their attractive properties of fine ceramics. One solution to the wide variety of ceramic to metal combination lies in the effective joining. Active metal brazing of $Al_2$,$O_3$, to STS304 was investigated using Cu -Ti alloys. Titanium additive is chosen since it is good oxide former~. Brazing is performed under vacuum($10^{-3}$-$10^{-4}$ torr), a temperature between 1100 and 120$0^{\circ}C$ and time of 0.5-1.5hr. The microstructure of the brazed joints of $Al_2$,$O_3$ to STS304 with Cu-Ti insert metals were examined by using optical microscope and SEM and reaction products were analyzed by using EDX, WDX and XRD. Also interfacial reactions occuring during the brazing of $Al_2$,$O_3$/Cu-Ti/STS304 system are discussed. Experimental results showed formation of Titanium oxide T$i_2$$O_3$ which is attributable to the joining $Al_2$,$O_3$ to STS304 with Cu-Ti insert metal.
The impact of effective parameters on the electrodeposition rate optimization of Au-Cu alloy at high thicknesses on the silver substrate was investigated in the present study. After ensuring the formation of gold alloy deposits with the desired and standard percentage of gold with the cartage of 18K and other standard karats that should be observed in the manufacturing of the gold and jewelry artifacts, comparing the rate of gold-copper deposition by direct and pulsed current was done. The rate of deposition with pulse current was significantly higher than direct current. In this process, the duty cycle parameter was effectively optimized by the "one factor at a time" method to achieve maximum deposition rate. Particular parameters in this work were direct and pulse current densities, bath temperature, concentration of gold and cyanide ions in electrolyte, pH, agitation and wetting agent additive. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface chemical analysis system (EDS) were used to study the effect of deposition on the cross-sections of the formed layers. The results revealed that the Au-Cu alloy layer formed with concentrations of 6gr·L-1 Au, 55gr·L-1 Cu, 24 gr·L-1 KCN and 1 ml·L-1 Lauryl dimethyl amine oxide (LDAO) in the 0.6 mA·cm-2 average current density and 30% duty cycle, had 0.841 ㎛·min-1 Which was the highest deposition rate. The use of electrodeposition of pure and alloy gold thick layers as a production method can reduce the use of gold metal in the production of hallow gold artifacts, create sophisticated and unique models, and diversify production by maintaining standard karats, hardness, thickness and mechanical strength. This will not only make the process economical, it will also provide significant added value to the gold artifacts. By pulsating of currents and increasing the duty cycle means reducing the pulse off-time, and if the pulse off-time becomes too short, the electric double layer would not have sufficient growth time, and its thickness decreases. These results show the effect of pulsed current on increasing the electrodeposition rate of Au-Cu alloy confirming the previous studies on the effect of pulsed current on increasing the deposition rate of Au-Cu alloy.
This study investigated the effects of copper and zinc sources on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, carcass traits and meat characteristics in finishing pigs. Dietary treatments included 1) inorganic copper ($CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ 30ppm), 2) organic copper (Cu-methionine, 30 ppm), 3) inorganic zinc (ZnO, 80 ppm) and 4) organic zinc (Zn-methionine, 80 ppm). ZnO treatment improved the ADFI (average daily feed intake) compared to Cu-met and Zn-met treatments (p<0.05) during 5 weeks of treatment. However, during the entire experimental period, the ADG (average daily gain), ADFI and F:G ratio (feed conversion ratio) were not significantly different among the treatments (p>0.05). DM and N digestibility were not significantly different among the treatments after 5 weeks (p>0.05). At the end of the experiment, DM and N digestibility were decreased with Zn-met treatment relative to the other three treatments. The pH value of meat from $CuSO_4$ treated pigs was greater than Zn-met and ZnO treated pigs (p<0.05). Sensory evaluation was carried out for randomly selected (n = 16) paired loin samples. Meat color levels were increased (p<0.05) with Cu treatments compared to Zn treatments. $CuSO_4$ decreased the marbling of meat relative to the other treatments (p<0.05). The firmness was greater with ZnO treatment compared to Cu-met and ZnO treatments (p<0.05). These results indicate that inorganic Zn can improve growth performance, however, inorganic Cu and Zn are as effective as organic Cu and Zn at improving nutrient digestibility, carcass traits and meat quality. This form of organic additive can be friendlier to the environment than inorganic supplements.
In this research, effects of the types and amounts of binders and additives on desulfurization and regeneration reactivities of zinc titanate were investigated. Bentonite and kaolinite were used as binders and Mo-based, Ni-based, and Cu-based compounds were used as additives. A thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) was utilized to investigate reactivities of desulfurization and regeneration for each sorbent. Two-cycle reactions of desulfurization-regeneration were performed in the TGA reactor. Results of XRD analysis showed that all sorbents had the crystalline phases of $Zn_2TiO_2$ and $Zn_2Ti_3O_8$ irrespective of the type and amount of binder and additive. Kaolinite-bound sorbents gave higher surface areas than bentonite-bound ones and the surface areas and pore volumes of sorbents increased with amount of binder increased. It was found that the most suitable temperatures for desulfurization and regeneration were 680$^{\circ}$C and 730$^{\circ}$C, respectively, and the sorbent prepared by the addition of 3 mol% CuO showed the best performance in terms of desulfurization and regeneration. Nio-added sorbents had good regenerability whereas $MoO_3-based$ sorbents showed poor performance. In cycle experiments in a fixed bed reactor 3 mol% CuO-added sorbents showed high reactivity.

In this study, the effect of polyethylene glycol (PEG) on Cu electrodeposition was analyzed using cyclic voltammetry. The adsorption of PEG was affected by the specific adsorption of sulfate ion (SO42-) or chloride ion (Cl-). In SO42--based plating solution, the adsorption of PEG was limited by the adsorbed SO42-. Accordingly, the adsorbed PEG could suppress the electron transfer for Cu electrodeposition, but its effect was not significant. Meanwhile, in the plating solution composed of perchlorate ion (ClO4-) which does not specifically adsorb on Cu surface, a strong suppression effect of PEG was observed and it was proportional to the molecular weight of PEG. On the other hand, when Cl- was specifically adsorbed on Cu surface, the suppression effect of PEG was enhanced because PEG and Cl- formed an interrelated adsorbate. The synergetic effect of PEG and Cl- depended on the composition of the plating solution, which means that the synergy between PEG and Cl- is based on the physical interaction. For example, the hydrophobicity of PEG plays an important role in the interaction, as the suppression effect of PEG derivative having a hydrocarbon tail was further enhanced with the addition of Cl-.

The electrochemical performance of positive pole grids of lead-acid batteries made of Pb-0.08%Ca-1.1%Sn alloys without and with 0.1 wt% of each of Cu, As or Sb and with 0.1 wt% of Cu, As and Sb combined was investigated by electrochemical methods in 4.0 M $H_2SO_4$. The corrodibility of alloys under open-circuit conditions and constant current charging of the positive pole, the positive pole gassing and the self-discharge of the charged positive pole were studied. All impurities (Cu, As, Sb) were found to decrease the corrosion resistance, $R_{corr}$ after 1/2 hour corrosion, but after 24 hours an improvement in $R_{corr}$ was recorded for Sb containing alloy and the alloy with the three impurities combined. While an individual impurity was found to enhance oxygen evolution reaction, the impurities combined significantly inhibition this reaction and the related water loss problem was improved. Impedance results were found helpful in identification of the species involved in the charging/discharging and the self-discharge of the positive pole. Impurities individually or combined were found to increase the self-discharge during polarization (33-68%), where Sb containing alloy was the worst and impurities combined alloy was the least. The corrosion of the positive pole grid in the constant current charging was found to increase in the presence of impurities by 5-10%. Under open-circuit, the self-discharge of the charged positive grids was found to increase significantly (92-212%) in the presence of impurities, with Sb-containing alloy was the worst. The important result of the study is that the harmful effect of the studied impurities combined was not additive but sometimes lesser than any individual impurity.
