We presents a novel (2, 2) secret sharing (SS) scheme for all grayscale images. Generally, a secret image is distribute more than two shadow images, which are dealt out among participants. In order to find out secret image, participants print shadow images to transparent papers. Then, a secret image will appear as stacking transparent papers. The secret sharing scheme in this paper distribute secret image into natural grayscale images using multiplexer and data hiding scheme. After then, two participant have two shadow images respectively. The merit of the proposed scheme is that shadow images have small loss in aspect of the quality with steganographic features. Therefore, the proposed secret sharing scheme in this paper is not easily detected by attackers. The experiment result verified that the proposed scheme, obviously outperforms previous SS schemes.

Elliptic curve cyptography is relatively a current cryptography based on point arithmetic on elliptic curves and the Elliptic Curve Discrete Logarithm Problem (ECDLP). This discrete logarithm problems enables perfect forward secrecy which helps to easily generate key and almost impossible to revert the generation which is a great feature for privacy and protection. In this paper, we provide a lightweight Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) Key exchange generator that creates a 163 bit long shared key that can be used in an Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme (ECIES) as well as for key agreement. The algorithm uses a fast multiplication algorithm that is small in size and also implements the extended euclidean algorithm. This proposed architecture was designed using verilog HDL, synthesized with the vivado ISE 2016.3 and was implemented on the virtex-7 FPGA board.

In this paper, we present an anonymous authentication and location assurance protocol for secure location-aware services over vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). In other to achieve our goal, we propose the notion of a location-aware signing key so as to strongly bind geographic location information to cryptographic function while providing conditional privacy preservation which is a desirable property for secure vehicular communications. Furthermore, the proposed protocol provides an efficient procedure based on hash chain technique for revocation checking to effectively alleviate communication and computational costs on vehicles in VANETs. Finally, we demonstrate comprehensive analysis to confirm the fulfillment of the security objectives, and the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed protocol.
Present electric grids are advanced to integrate smart grids, distributed resources, high-speed sensing and control, and other advanced metering technologies. Cybersecurity is one of the challenges of the smart grid and nuclear plant digital system. It affects the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), for grid data communication and controls the information in real-time. The research article is emphasized solving the nuclear and smart grid hardware security issues with the integration of field programmable gate array (FPGA), and implementing the latest Time Authenticated Cryptographic Identity Transmission (TACIT) cryptographic algorithm in the chip. The cryptographic-based encryption and decryption approach can be used for a smart grid distribution system embedding with FPGA hardware. The chip design is carried in Xilinx ISE 14.7 and synthesized on Virtex-5 FPGA hardware. The state of the art of work is that the algorithm is implemented on FPGA hardware that provides the scalable design with different key sizes, and its integration enhances the grid hardware security and switching. It has been reported by similar state-of-the-art approaches, that the algorithm was limited in software, not implemented in a hardware chip. The main finding of the research work is that the design predicts the utilization of hardware parameters such as slices, LUTs, flip-flops, memory, input/output blocks, and timing information for Virtex-5 FPGA synthesis before the chip fabrication. The information is extracted for 8-bit to 128-bit key and grid data with initial parameters. TACIT security chip supports 400 MHz frequency for 128-bit key. The research work is an effort to provide the solution for the industries working towards embedded hardware security for the smart grid, power plants, and nuclear applications.

In this work, a hardware based cryptographic module for the cyber security of nuclear power plant is developed using a system engineering approach. Nuclear power plants are isolated from the Internet, but as shown in the case of Iran, Man-in-the-middle attacks (MITM) could be a threat to the safety of the nuclear facilities. This FPGA-based module does not have an operating system and it provides protection as a firewall and mitigates the cyber threats. The encryption equipment consists of an encryption module, a decryption module, and interfaces for communication between modules and systems. The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)-128, which is formally approved as top level by U.S. National Security Agency for cryptographic algorithms, is adopted. The development of the cyber security module is implemented in two main phases: reverse engineering and re-engineering. In the reverse engineering phase, the cyber security plan and system requirements are analyzed, and the AES algorithm is decomposed into functional units. In the re-engineering phase, we model the logical architecture using Vitech CORE9 software and simulate it with the Enhanced Functional Flow Block Diagram (EFFBD), which confirms the performance improvements of the hardware-based cryptographic module as compared to software based cryptography. Following this, the Hardware description language (HDL) code is developed and tested to verify the integrity of the code. Then, the developed code is implemented on the FPGA and connected to the personal computer through Recommended Standard (RS)-232 communication to perform validation of the developed component. For the future work, the developed FPGA based encryption equipment will be verified and validated in its expected operating environment by connecting it to the Advanced power reactor (APR)-1400 simulator.

Secure and reliable group communication is an increasingly active research area prompted by the growing popularity of many types of group-oriented and collaborative applications. The central challenge is secure and efficient group key management. While centralized methods are often appropriate for key distribution in large multicast-style groups, many collaborative group settings require distributed key agreement techniques. Most of prior group key agreement protocols have been focused on reducing the computational costs. One exception is STR protocol that optimizes communicational cost. On the other hand, it requires O(n) number of modular exponentiations. In this paper, we propose a new group key agreement protocol that modifies STR protocol by utilizing pairing based cryptography. The resulting protocol reduces computational cost of STR protocol while preserving the communication cost.

In modern society, smart home has become a part of people's daily life. But traditional smart home systems often have problems such as security, data centralization and easy tampering, so a blockchain is an emerging technology that solves the problems. This paper proposes a blockchain-based smart home system which consists in a home and a blockchain network part. The blockchain network with 8 nodes is implemented by HyperLeger Fabric platform on Docker. ECC(Elliptic Curve Cryptography) technology is used for data transmission security and RBAC(role-based access control) manages the certificates of network members. Raft consensus algorithm maintains data consistency across all nodes in a distributed system and reduces block generation time. The query and data submission are controlled by the smart contract which allows nodes to safely and efficiently access smart home data. The experimental results show that the proposed system maintains a stable average query and submit time of 84.5 [ms] and 93.67 [ms] under high concurrent accesses, respectively and the transmission data is secured through simulated packet capture attacks.

Cryptographic algorithms are used to prevent the illegal manipulation of data. They are divided into public-key cryptosystems and symmetric-key cryptosystems. Public-key cryptosystems require considerable time for encryption and decryption compared to symmetric-key cryptosystem. On the other hand, key management, and delivery are easier for public-key cryptosystems than symmetric-key cryptosystems because different keys are used for encryption and decryption. Furthermore, hash functions are being used very effectively to verify the integrity of the digital content, as they always generate output with a fixed size using the data of various sizes as input. This paper proposes a method using RSA public-key cryptography and a hash function to determine if a digital image is deformed or not and to detect the manipulated location. In the proposed method, the entire image is divided into several blocks, 64×64 in size. The watermark is then allocated to each block to verify the deformation of the data. When deformation occurs, the manipulated pixel will be divided into smaller 4×4 sub-blocks, and each block will have a watermark to detect the location. The safety of the proposed method depends on the security of the cryptographic algorithm and the hash function.

An exponentiation in $GF(2^m)$ is a basic operation for several algorithms used in cryptography, digital signal processing, error-correction code and so on. Existing hardware implementations for the exponentiation operation organize by Right-to-Left method since a merit of parallel circuit. Our paper proposes a polynomial exponentiation structure with a trinomial that is organized by Left-to-Right method and that utilizes a weakly dual basis. The basic idea of our method is to decrease time delay using precomputation tables because one of two inputs in the Left-to-Right method is fixed. Since $T_{sqr}$ (squarer time delay) + $T_{mul}$(multiplier time delay) of ow method is smaller than $T_{mul}$ of existing methods, our method reduces time delays of existing Left-to-Right and Right-to-Left methods by each 17%, 10% for $x^m+x+1$ (irreducible polynomial), by each 21%, 9% $x^m+x^k+1(1, by each 15%, 1% for $x^m+x^{m/2}+1$.
