Compositions of Fatty Acid, Free Amino Acid and Total Amino Acid of Lespedeza x chiisanensis T. LEE (지리산 싸리의 지질 구성 지방산과 유리 아미노산 및 구성 총 아미노산 조성에 관하여)

  • The compositions of amino acid in the protein and fatty acid in the lipid of Lespedeza x chiisanensis T. LEE were analyzed by HPLC and GC, respectively. The contents of crude oil and protein from the extracts were 11.13% and 5.18%, respectively. The amount of free anino acids in the protein was 443.14mg/100g, and 94.84mg/100g of essential amino acid were contained in the free amino acid. The amount of total amino acids in the protein was 3159.85mg/100g, and 1068.18mg/100g of essential amino acid were contained in the total amino acid. The compositions of fatty acid in the lipid were $C_{18\;:\;2}=45.05%,\;C_{18\;:\;3}=18.71%,\;C_{19}=14.70%,C_{18\;:\;1}=6.81%,\;C_{16}=4.35%,\;C_{16\;:\;1}=1.59%$ in order, respectively. 72.44% of unsaturated fatty acids were contained in the lipid.

  • A preliminary investigation to establish the status of contamination of trace metals in the Western coast of Ghana was conducted prior to the commercial production of crude oil in the area. The study revealed the presence of heavy metals such as Pb (4.00-79.64 mg/kg), As (8.81-236 mg/kg), Cu (12.86-108.06 mg/kg), V (28.07-953.32 mg/kg), Zn (7.08-264.25 mg/kg), Cr (101.69-1366.62 mg/kg), Ni (42.41-451.43 mg/kg), Mn (16.77-1890.45mg/kg), Br (7.66-142.78 mg/kg), Ti (542.03-19960 mg/kg) and Fe (7472.88-97120 mg/kg) at six sites sampled along the coast. With the exception of Ti and Fe which showed no variation in metal concentration, the rest of the metals varied significantly among the sampled locations. Potential ecological risk of metals particularly of Co, As and Br which exhibited extreme enrichment of the sediments indicates considerable metal pollution in the studied areas. The degree of contamination is of particular concern especially to benthic biota that inhabit this environment for survival.

Development of an Optimal Model for Forecasting Overseas Construction Orders (해외건설수주액 예측을 위한 최적모형 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and contrast the amount of overseas construction orders of South Korea and China by using various time series models that measure the overseas construction orders. Based on the analysis we propose better specification (model selection) with much more predictive power and prove the universality of the model developed by applying our findings with respect to the prediction power of overseas construction orders from other countries viewpoints (verification of generalization). The input variables include Dubai crude oil and exchange rates by country from 1981 to 2019. The VAR model is proposed based on the prediction power test, with respect to MAPE, RMSE, and MAE between the estimates and actual measurements from 2016 to 2019. We also conclude the results of the prediction of overseas construction orders time series of China are again consistent with the actual numbers. These analyses suggest the possibility of developing a comprehensive model that predict the potential construction orders of other countries.

Effect of Gasoline Property Change on Exhaust Gas and Catalyst (휘발유 물성변화에 따른 배출가스 및 촉매에 미치는 영향성 연구)

  • Gasoline that meets the quality standards is distributed in Korea. However, consumers who use toluene or solvent mixed with gasoline have appeared due to rising crude oil prices and for the purpose of tax evasion. Gasoline quality standard is enacted by the domestic and international research reference. A wrong fuel can influence automobile performance or environmental issue. Thus, empirical data from this issue is necessary. Therefore, this research observed catalyst influence by gasoline property change and inspect influence of environment. In this study, fuel property evaluation, lean-burn evaluation, and real vehicle exhaust emission test were performed. In the result of fuel property, the fuel "A" was measured to be up to 27% less octane than the normal gasoline and the distillation property was measured 24% higher than normal gasoline. In the test result of single cylinder engine lean-burn test, the fuels "A" and "B" show torque value 20% less than the normal gasoline. As a result of vehicle test using the catalyst, the fuel "A" was increased more than the normal gasoline with 83% THC, 1,806% CO and 128% NOx, and the fuel "B" was increased more than normal gasoline with 1.6% THC, 391% CO and 142% NOx.

A Study to Develop an Active Control System of Ship Vibration Using a Mechanical Actuator (기계식 구동기를 이용한 선박진동의 능동제어장치 개발)

  • A mechanical actuator to generate adjustable force ants its active control algorithm to minimize ship structural vibration are developed. The algorithms comprise initial algorithm which determines optimal phase and force magnitude of the actuator using the variation of vibration response according to the phase difference between the main engine and the actuator, and regulating algorithm which performs continuous optimal control to track the change of the engine speed. This control system can be applied without any prior identification for the dynamic characteristics of the controlled structure. In the control experiments for the deckhouse structural vibration of a 300,000 DWT crude oil carrier and a 2,270 TEU container carrier, the developed system showed good performance to reduce the vibration levels to $1/2{\sim}1/6$ of the uncontrolled levels.

  • The importance of 'Big Data' is increasing to the point that it is likened to '21st century crude oil'. For smart city IoT data, attention should be paid to quality control as the quality of data is associated with the quality of public services. However, data quality indicators presented through ISO/IEC organizations and domestic/foreign organizations are limited to the 'User' perspective. To complement these limitations, the study derives supplier-centric indicators and their priorities. After deriving 3 categories and 13 indicators of supplier-oriented smart city IoT data quality evaluation indicators, we derived the priority of indicator categories and data quality indicators through AHP analysis and investigated the feasibility of each indicator. The study can contribute to improving sensor data quality by presenting the basic requirements that data should have to individuals or companies performing the task. Furthermore, data quality control can be performed based on indicator priorities to provide improvements in quality control task efficiency.

Design Enhancement to Avoid Radar Mast Resonance in Large Ship using Design of Experiments (실험계획법을 이용한 대형 선박용 레이더 마스트의 공진회피 설계)

  • Recently, problems with excessive vibration of the radar masts of large bulk carriers and crude oil tankers have frequently been reported. This paper explores a design method to avoid the resonance of a radar mast installed on a large ship using various design of experiment (DOE) methods. A local vibration test was performed during an actual sea trial to determine the excitation sources of the vibration related to the resonant frequency of the radar mast. DOE methods such as the orthogonal array (OA) and Latin hypercube design (LHD) methods were used to analyze the Pareto effects on the radar mast vibration. In these DOE methods, the main vibration performances such as the natural frequency and weight of the radar mast were set as responses, while the shape and thickness of the main structural members of the radar mast were set as design factors. From the DOE-based Pareto effect results, we selected the significant structural members with the greatest influence on the vibration characteristics of the radar mast. Full factorial design (FFD) was applied to verify the Pareto effect results of the OA and LHD methods. The design of the main structural members of the radar mast to avoid resonance was reviewed, and a normal mode analysis was performed for each design using the finite element method. Based on the results of this normal mode analysis, we selected a design case that could avoid the resonance from the major excitation sources. In addition, a modal test was performed on the determined design to verify the normal mode analysis results.

  • The amount of data created in the present intelligence information society is beyond imagination. Big data has a great diversity from every information via SNS and internet to the one created by government and enterprises. This various data is close at hand having infinite value as same as crude oil. Big data analysis and utilization by data mining over every areas in the modern industrial society is getting more important for finding useful correlation and strengthening forecasting power against the future uncertainty. Efficient management and utilization of big data produced by complex modern society will be researched in this paper. Also it addresses strategies and methods for securing overall industrial competitiveness, synergy creation among industries, cost reduction and effective application based on big data in the $4^{th}$ industrial revolution era.

The Strategic Approach of 'Freedom of Navigation Operations' ('항행의 자유 작전'의 전략적 접근)

  • The South China Sea is a significant maritime shipping route with abundant submarine and fishing resources. Over 40,000 ships pass through the South China Sea every year, constituting around 50% of global shipping and 66% of crude oil. In particular, 30% of Korea's import cargo and 90% of energy imports pass through this body of water. The US and China realized the significance of this sea area from early on and are embodying national interest through maritime security at the national strategic level by implementing the 'Indo-Pacific' and 'One Belt One Road' strategies, respectively. Such geopolitical conflicts are manifested in the 'freedom of navigation operations' by the US in the South China Sea. Despite its significance, there is a lack of studies in Korea on the freedom of navigation operations, and most previous studies only focus on analyzing international law and agreements. This article examines the origin and background of the strategic perception of the freedom of navigation operations and derives implications for the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula as the strategic competition between the US and China continues.

Evaluation of interest rate-linked DLSs

  • Derivative-linked securities (DLS) is a type of derivatives that offer an agreed return when the underlying asset price moves within a specified range by the maturity date. The underlying assets of DLS are diverse such as interest rates, exchange rates, crude oil, or gold. A German 10-year bond rate-linked DLS and a USD-GBP CMS rate-linked DLS have recently become a social issue in Korea due to a huge loss to investors. In this regard, this paper accounts for the payoff structure of these products and evaluates their prices and fair coupon rates as well as risk measures such as Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Tail-Value-at-Risk (TVaR). We would like to examine how risky these products were and whether or not their coupon rates were appropriate. We use Hull-White Model as the stochastic model for the underlying assets and Monte Carlo (MC) methods to obtain numerical results. The no-arbitrage prices of the German 10-year bond rate-linked DLS and the USD-GBP CMS rate-linked DLS at the center of the social issue turned out to be 0.9662% and 0.9355% of the original investment, respectively. Considering that Korea government bond rate for 2018 is about 2%, these values are quite low. The fair coupon rates that make the prices of DLS equal to the original investment are computed as 4.76% for the German 10-year bond rate-linked DLS and 7% for the USD-GBP CMS rate-linked DLS. Their actual coupon rates were 1.4% and 3.5%. The 95% VaR and TVaR of the loss for German 10-year bond rate-linked DLS are 37.30% and 64.45%, and those of the loss for USD-GBP CMS rate-linked DLS are 73.98% and 87.43% of the initial investment. Summing up the numerical results obtained, we could see that the DLS products of our interest were indeed quite unfavorable to individual investors.
