  • This study aims to analyse the conversation structure on Talking Culture("說漢語 淡文化") that is one of the conversation textbooks about Chinese culture and investigate Chinese textbooks published in Korea and Japan from a integration point of view among language, literature and culture for improving upon the problems on Talking Culture. For this purpose, this study, before analysing and investigating, considered the concept of language socialization on learning Chinese as a foreign language, and on the basis of it, analysed the conversation structure of Talking Culture. And then this study examined how we should organize the structures and contents when making conversations in Chinese textbook related with culture in compared with the Chinese textbooks published in Korea and Japan. In conclusion, this study argues that when composing a conversation textbook with culture, we not only need to pay attention not to have an inclination for conversation structure, but need to make use of the contents in Chinese literary and culture works for organizing conversations from the perspective of integration among language, literature and culture.

  • Objectives Sleep is closely related to children's and adolescent's growth. The purpose of this cross-sectional study is to examine the frequency of symptoms associated with sleep in childhood and adolescence and the impact in their growth. Methods This study had used questionnaire targeting 1001 children and adolescents. 532 of them were visited the Department of Pediatrics, the Oriental Medicine Hospital of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$University located in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, during the period between May and September in 2012. 469 of them were students in the lower grades at ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$Elementary School located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, during June, 2012. We used PASW Statistics 18.0 to analyze the relation between growth and symptoms associated with sleep by using Independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and ANCOVA. Results As the result of this research, snoring(54.9%), sleep bruxism(34.2%), sleep talking(31.5%), sleep terror(17.1%) were most frequently seen as symptoms associated with sleep. Group of habitual snoring($p=0.008^{**}$) and sleep terror($p=0.016^*$) had lower height percentile than other groups. Groups with sleep talking($p=0.022^*$) had lower weight percentile than group without sleep talking. Groups with sleep talking($p=0.018^*$) or sleep walking($p=0.045^*$) had lower BMI percentile, and group with habitual sleep apnea($p=0.039^*$) had higher BMI percentile. Conclusions Symptoms during sleep such as snoring, sleep bruxism, sleep talking, and sleep terror occur frequently among children and adolescents. More importantly, snoring, sleep terror, and sleep talking may be associated with growth of children and adolescents.

  • Transforming Growth Factor (TGF)-$\beta$ family, including TGF-$\beta$, bone morphorgenic protein (BMP), and activn, plays an important role in essential cellular functions such as proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, tissue remodeling, angiognesis, immune responses, and cell adhesions. TGF-$\beta$ predominantly transmits the signals through serine/threonine receptor kinases and cytoplasmic proteins called Smads. Since the discovery of TGF-$\beta$ in the early 1980s, the dysregulation of TGF-$\beta$/Smad signaling has been implicated in the pathogenesis of human diseases. Among signal transducers in TGF-$\beta$/Smad signaling, inhibitory Smads (I-Smads), Smad6 and Smad7, act as major negative regulators forming autoinhibitory feedback loops and mediate the cross-talking with other signaling pathways. Expressions of I-Smads are mainly regulated on the transcriptional levels and post-translational protein degradations and their intracellular levels are tightly controlled to maintain the homeostatic balances. However, abnormal levels of I-Smads in the pathological conditions elicit the altered TGF-$\beta$ signaling in cells, eventually causing TGF-$\beta$-related human diseases. Thus, exploring the molecular mechanisms about the regulations of I-Smads may provide the therapeutic clues for human diseases induced by the abnormal TGF-$\beta$ signaling.

  • In this paper, we implement an automatic distance speech recognition system for voiced-enabled services. We first construct a baseline automatic speech recognition (ASR) system, where acoustic models are trained from speech utterances spoken by using a cross-talking microphone. In order to improve the performance of the baseline ASR using distance speech, the acoustic models are adapted to adjust the spectral characteristics of speech according to different microphones and the environmental mismatches between cross-talking and distance speech. Next we develop a voice activity detection algorithm for distance speech. We compare the performance of the base-line system and the developed ASR system on a task of PBW (Phonetically Balanced Word) 452. As a result it is shown that the developed ASR system provides the average word error rate (WER) reduction of 30.6 % compared to the baseline ASR system.

  • Invasion mechanisms of pathogens and counteracting defense mechanisms of plants are highly diverse and perpetually evolving. While most classical studies of plant defense have focused only on defense-specific factor-mediated responses, recent work is beginning to shed light on the involvement of non-stress signal components, especially growth and developmental processes. This shift in focus links plant resistance more closely with growth and development. In this review, we summarize our current understanding of how pathogens manipulate host developmental processes and, conversely, of how plants deploy their developmental processes for self-protection. We conclude by introducing our recent work on UNI, a novel R protein in Arabidopsis which mediates cross-talk between developmental processes and defense responses.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new and effective classroom speaking activity helping student's communication in real situation. It will be one of useful teaching techniques for teachers because it can be used with other various types of speaking activities together. The activity is designed by the researcher, and named as the Partner's Speech Reconstitution(PSR) in this paper. In chapter 2, Noticing and Output hypothesis which is the theoretic basis of the PSR will be described and the chapter 3 will explain activity methods and examples of the PSR, and then describe its merits and demerits. The researcher applied and practiced the PSR in the speaking class for international students in the K university for three semesters. This paper systematically introduces its organized activity. It helped learners elicit speaking performance of students who avoided talking in the speaking class, made the students concentrate in speaking activity, and helped the learners to talk sufficiently by inducing each student to reconstitute partner's speech production.

  • The fabrication and experimentation of multi-channel electrodes which enable detecting and recording of multi-site neuronal signals have been investigated. A multi-channel electrode array was fabricated by depositing 2000${\AA}$ thick Au layer on the 1000${\AA}$ thick Ti adhesion layer on a glass wafer. The metal paths were patterned by wet etching and passivated by depositing a PECVD silicon nitride insulation layer to prevent signals from intermixing or cross-talking. After placing a thin slice of rat cerebellar granule cell in the culture ring located in central portion of the multi-channel electrode plate, a neuronal signal from an electrode which is in contact with the cerebellar granule cell has been detected. It was found that the electrode impedance ranges 200㏀∼1㏁ and the impedance is not changed by cleaning with nitric acid. Also, the impedance is inversely proportion to the exposed electrode area and the cross-talk is negligible when the electrode spacing is bigger than 600$\mu\textrm{m}$. The amplitude and frequency of the measured action potential were 38㎷ and 2㎑, which are typical values. From the experimental results, the fabricated multi-channel electrode array proved to be suitable for multi-site neuronal signal detection for the analysis of a complicated cell network.

  • Cochannel speaker separation is employed when speech from two talkers has been summed into one signal and it is desirable to recover one or both of the speech signals from the composite signal. Cochannel speech occurs in many common situations such as when two AM signals containing speech are transmitted on the same frequency or when two people are speaking simultaneously (e. g., when talking on the telephone). In this paper, the method that separated the speech in such a situation is proposed. Especially, only the voiced sound of few sound states is separated. And the similarity of the signals by the cross correlation between the signals for exactness of original signal and separated signal is proved.

  • In this paper, we present a study on the real-time implementation of mobile robot to which the interactive voice recognition technique is applied. The speech command utters the sentential connected word and asserted through the wireless remote control system. We implement an automatic distance speech command recognition system for voice-enabled services interactively. We construct a baseline automatic speech command recognition system, where acoustic models are trained from speech utterances spoken by a microphone. In order to improve the performance of the baseline automatic speech recognition system, the acoustic models are adapted to adjust the spectral characteristics of speech according to different microphones and the environmental mismatches between cross talking and distance speech. We illustrate the performance of the developed speech recognition system by experiments. As a result, it is illustrated that the average rates of proposed speech recognition system shows about 95% above.
