The present paper deals with delamination fracture analyses of the multilayered functionally graded non-linear elastic Symmetric Split Beam (SSB) configurations. The material is functionally graded in both width and height directions in each layer. It is assumed that the material properties are distributed non-symmetrically with respect to the centroidal axes of the beam cross-section. Sine laws are used to describe the continuous variation of the material properties in the cross-sections of the layers. The delamination fracture is analyzed in terms of the strain energy release rate by considering the balance of the energy. A comparison with the J-integral is performed for verification. The solution derived is used for parametric analyses of the delamination fracture behavior of the multilayered functionally graded SSB in order to evaluate the effects of the sine gradients of the three material properties in the width and height directions of the layers and the location of the crack along the beam width on the strain energy release rate. The solution obtained is valid for two-dimensional functionally graded non-linear elastic SSB configurations which are made of an arbitrary number of lengthwise vertical layers. A delamination crack is located arbitrary between layers. Thus, the two crack arms have different widths. Besides, the layers have individual widths and material properties.

This paper reports results on the physical properties of a powder type of $Al_2O_3:C$ commonly used as a luminescence dosimeter using the LM-OSL technique. On the analysis with the general order kinetics model, the LM-OSL signal measured appeared to be composed of three components (fast, medium, slow) showing the largest area in the medium component. The photoionization cross sections of three components were distributed between $10^{-19}{\sim}10^{-21}cm^2$. The values of the thermal assistance energy were evaluated the largest in slow component and the smallest in fast component, which indicates the electrons trapped in defects attributed to slow component should be the most sensitive to thermal vibration among three components. In illumination to blue light, the fast component showed a rapid linear decay and completely disappeared after light exposure time of about 5 s. The medium component decayed with two exponential elements but the slow component did not observed any noticeable change until light exposure time of 40 s. In a dose response study, all components exhibited a linear behaviour up to approximately 10 Gy.
Estimation of accurate blood volume flow in ultrasound Doppler blood flow spectrograms is extremely important for clinical diagnostic purposes. Blood volume flow measurements require the assessment of both the velocity distribution and the cross-sectional area of the vessel. Unfortunately, the existing volume flow estimation algorithms by ultrasound lack the velocity space distribution information in cross-sections of a vessel and have the problems of low accuracy and poor stability. In this paper, a new robust ultrasound volume flow estimation method based on multigate (RMG) is proposed and the multigate technology provides detail information on the local velocity distribution. In this method, an accurate double iterative flow velocity estimation algorithm (DIV) is used to estimate the mean velocity and it has been tested on in vivo data from carotid. The results from experiments indicate a mean standard deviation of less than 6% in flow velocities when estimated for a range of SNR levels. The RMG method is validated in a custom-designed experimental setup, Doppler phantom and imitation blood flow control system. In vitro experimental results show that the mean error of the RMG algorithm is 4.81%. Low errors in blood volume flow estimation make the prospect of using the RMG algorithm for real-time blood volume flow estimation possible.

At present, an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) is one of the most suitable tools for measurement of three dimensional flow characteristics in the river. The data resulting from this approach can be used for flow visualization and velocity mapping together with post-processing software tools. Among them, 'adcptools' is the latest one and provides more realistic velocity distribution in the cross-section since it uses velocity along the beam direction. In this study, a flow analysis was made using the 'adcptools' for the Amazon River and the Han River dataset. Discharge was recalculated and accuracy of discharge and velocity was evaluated. Streamwise velocity distribution and secondary flow pattern in cross-sections were visualized. Geo-referenced velocity distribution was also mapped. A summary with future prospect of 'adcptools' for studies on fluvial geomorphology is briefly given.
Neutron and gamma-ray shielding properties of Inconel 718 reinforced B4C (0-25 wt%) were investigated using PSD software. Mean free path (MFP), linear and mass attenuation coefficients (LAC,MAC), tenth-value and half-value layers (TVL,HVL), effective atomic number (Zeff), exposure buildup factors (EBF), and fast neutron removal cross-sections (FNRC) values were calculated for 0.015-15 MeV. It was found that MAC and LAC increased with the decrease in the content of B4C compound by weight in Inconel 718. The EBFs were computed using G-P fitting method for 0.015-15 MeV up to the penetration depth of 40 mfp. HVL, TVL, and FNRC values were found to range between 0.018 cm and 3.6 cm, between 2.46 cm and 12.087 cm, and between 0.159 cm-1 and 0.194 cm-1, respectively. While Inconel 718 provides the maximum photon shielding property since it offered the highest values of MAC and Zeff and the lowest value of HVL, Inconel 718 with B4C(25 wt%) was observed to provide the best shielding material for neutron since it offered the highest FNRC value. The study is original in terms of several aspects; moreover, the results of the study may be used in nuclear technology, as well as other technologies including nano and space technologies.
The effect of hydrodynamic damping on intake tower is twofold: one is fluid damping and another is structural damping. Fluid damping can be derived analytically from the governing equation of the fluid-structure-interaction (FSI) problem which yields a very complicated solution. To avoid the complexity of the FSI problem water-tower system can be simplified by considering water as added mass. However, in such a system a reconsideration of structural damping is required. This study investigates the effects of this damping on the dynamic response of the intake tower, where, apart from the "no water (NW)" condition, six other cases have been adopted depending on water height. Two different cross-sections of the tower are considered and also two different damping properties have been used for each case as well. Dynamic analysis has been carried out using horizontal ground motion as input. Finally, the result shows how hydrodynamic damping affects the dynamic behavior of an intake tower with the change of water height and cross-section. This research will help a designer to consider more conservative damping properties of intake tower which might vary depending on the shape of the tower and height of water.
In this paper, fracture analysis of a continuously inhomogeneous arch structure with two longitudinal cracks is developed in terms of the time-dependent strain energy release rate. The arch under consideration exhibits non-linear creep behavior. The cross-section of the arch is a rectangle. The material is continuously inhomogeneous along the thickness of the cross-section. The arch is loaded by two bending moments applied at its end sections. The mechanical behavior of the material is described by using a non-linear stress-strain-time relationship. The two longitudinal cracks are located symmetrically with respect to the mid-span of the arch. Due to the symmetry, only half of the arch is considered. Time-dependent solutions to strain energy release rate are obtained by analyzing the balance of the energy. For verification, time-dependent solutions to the strain energy release rate are derived also by considering the time-dependent complementary strain energy. The evolution of the strain energy release rate with the time is analyzed. The effects of material inhomogeneity, locations of the two cracks along the thickness of the arch and the magnitude of the external loading on the time-dependent strain energy release rate are evaluated.
Nuclear medicine seems to be a decent choice of medicine in the recent decade. The radioactive isotopes 51Cr, 89Sr, 99Tc, 131I, 133Xe, 137Cs and 153Sm are extremely essential in nuclear medicine. The excitation functions of the 54Fe (n, α) 51Cr, 92Zr (n, α) 89Sr, 102Rh (n, α) 99Tc, 134Cs (n, α) 131I, 136Ba (n, α) 133Xe, 140La (n, α) 137Cs and 156Gd (n, α) 153Sm reactions were calculated in this study using the EMPIRE 3.2.3 and TALYS 1.95 nuclear codes. Additionally, the cross sections at 14-15 MeV were calculated using empirical formulae and the experimental data. The computer codes were compared to the experimental data and Empirical formulas as well as the evaluated data (TENDL 2021, JENDL 3.3, JENDL 5, JEFF 3.3, EAF 2010, CENDL 3.1, CENDL 3.2, ROSFOND 2010, FENDL 3.2 b, and BROND 3.1).
In the last decade, nuclear medicine appears to be a good choice of medicine. 58Co, 99Mo, 99Tc, 99Re, 133Xe and 186Re are very important radionuclides for nuclear medicine. In this study, the excitation functions of 58Ni (n, p) 58Co, 99Tc (n, p) 99Mo, 99Ru (n, p) 99Tc, 131Xe (n, p) 131I, 133Cs (n, p) 133Xe and 186Os (n, p) 186Re nuclear reactions were calculated at neutron energies between 1 and 20 MeV using TALYS 1.95 and EMPIRE 3.2 nuclear codes. Furthermore, the cross sections were calculated with the empirical formula derived in our past study at 14-15 MeV. The obtained results were compared with the measured values in EXFOR library, and with the evaluated data of (JENDL-4.0/HE, JEFF-3.3, TENDL-2019, ENDF/B-VIII.0, IRDFF-II, JENDL/ImPACT-18). The results are in good agreement with those of the evaluated data libraries and experimental results and indicates that these radioisotopes can be produced by smaller cyclotrons.
The feasibility of using the Monte Carlo code MCS to generate multigroup cross sections for nodal diffusion simulations RAST-F of liquid metal fast reactors is investigated in this paper. The performance of the MCS/RAST-F code system is assessed using steady-state simulations of the ANTS-100e core. The results show good agreement between MCS/RAST-F and MCS reference solutions, with a keff difference of less than 77 pcm and root-mean-square differences in radial and axial power of less than 0.5% and 0.25%, respectively. Furthermore, the MCS/RAST-F reactivity feedback coefficients are within three standard deviations of the MCS coefficients. To validate the internal thermal-hydraulic (TH) feedback capability in RAST-F code, the coupled neutronic/TH1D simulation of ANTS-100e is performed using the case matrix obtained from MCS branch calculations. The results are compared to those obtained using the MARS-LBE system code and show good agreement with relative temperature differences in fuel and coolant of less than 0.8%. This study demonstrates that the MCS/RAST-F code system can produce accurate results for core steady-state neutronic calculations and for coupled neutronic/TH simulations.
