Psychic Distance and Country Image Influencing on Consumers' Competitive Brand Choice on Cross-Cultural Perspectives (교차문화적 관점에서 경쟁적 브랜드 선택에 영향을 미치는 심리적 거리 및 국가이미지)

  • Culture, consumers' value and attitude play an important role for global marketing strategy on cross-cultural perspectives. The aim of this research was to investigate how consumer ethnocentrism and cultural affinity affect psychic distance, country image and competitive brand choice. data were collected through personal interview. A total of 234 responses are put to final analysis. The results are as follows: First, cultural affinity play an important role for psychic distance and country image. Second, consumer ethnocentrism has directly affected country image and psychic distance. Finally, country image has affected competitive brand choice, but psychic distance doesn't have affected.

Failure Examples Study for Tribological Characteristics of Drive Shaft and Axle System in Vehicles (자동차 드라이브 샤프트와 액슬 시스템의 트라이볼로지적인 특성에 관한 고장사례 고찰)

  • This study examined the tribological characteristics of the drive shaft and axle system in vehicles. The first drive shaft example contained end play for a CV joint that transferred part of the transmission power to the wheel. The joint part of the drive shaft was deformed because of reduced durability due to wear. Thus, vibrations caused the body to shake and become unbalanced when the drive shaft transferred the power. The second example was the cross-section of a shaft that connected the slip-connection of the propeller shaft on the input side to the yoke flange of the output side; the durability was reduced because of corrosion. End play caused by wear between the bearing and cross-section shaft appeared to cause shaking. In the third example, a grease leak reduced lubrication and thus caused damage to the hub bearing and inside the knuckle. The failure was produced by sticking. The fourth example had noise produced by the gear and gear transfer. This was due to the backlash of the pinion and few ring gears for the differential gear. Therefore, drive shaft and axle systems must be thoroughly checked and managed to minimize and reduce failure phenomena.

Repetitive Homologous Sequences in Flanking Region of Gametophytic Self-Incompatibility Allele in Lycopersicon peruvianum

  • Lycopersicon peruvianum shows a gametophytic self-incompatibility (GSI). GSI is controlled by a single locus (S locus) with multiple alleles. S ribonucleases encoded in S alleles cosegregate with their phenotypes of GSI in genetic cross. To understand the genetic role of S allele in L peruvianum, two large genomic fragments isolated previously were analyzed with total genomic DNAs from several tomato lines generated by cross-pollination. Southern blot analysis with the S allele fragments as probes revealed that the flanking region of S allele contained the highly homologous regions. It is speculated that they may play an important role to prevent genetic cross by self-pollination.

Theoretical Consideration on Influences of Cavity or Pillar Shape on Band Structures of Silicon-Based Photonic Crystals

  • This paper describes physical meanings of various influences of cavity (or pillar) shape and filling factor of dielectric material on band structures in two-dimensional photonic crystals. Influences of circular and rectangular cross-sections of cavity (or pillar) arrays on photonic band structures are considered theoretically, and significant aspects of square and triangular lattices are compared. It is shown that both averaged dielectric constant of the photonic crystal and distribution profile of photon energy play important roles in designing optical properties. For the triangular lattice, especially, it is shown that cavity array with a rectangular cross-section breaks the band structure symmetry. So, we discuss this point from the band structure and address optical properties of lattice with a circular cross-section cavity.

  • Dong-Ri Kim's Shaphan's Cross, Do-Gi Paek's A Testimony about Judas Iscariot and Mun-Yeol Yi's Re Son of Man have a common point. In the three novels, Jesus Christ plays an important role. Shaphan's Cross researches the theme of Jesus's resurrection directly and minutely. Dong-Ri Kim shows the attitude of a sincere Philosopher in this work. A Testimony about Judas Iscariot avoids such a theme in treating Jesus Christ, but Do-Gi Paek is concerned only about the moral problem, showing the attitude of a sincere philosopher. Re Son of Man researches the theme of Jesus's resurrection directly and minutely like Shaphan's Cross, but Mun-Yeol Yi does not show the attitude of a sincere philosopher. He, instead, shows the property of a dilettante who enjoys an intellectual game. In short, these three novels play important roles in enlarging the territory of Korean literature.

Extracorporeal Circulation Influence on Plasma Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (승모판막질환자의 체외순환술에 따른 혈중 atrial natriuretic peptide의 변화)

  • Human atria play an important role in extracellular homeostasis through release of atrial natriuretic peptide. To evaluate the relationship between plasma level of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and many changes which can develop during extracorporeal circulation, we studied 16 patients undergoing, 12 cardiac operation and 4 thoracic operation. Plasma level of ANP in cardiac patients group was significantly higher and more changeable than thoracic patients group. After aortic cross clamp release, blood was filled at right atrium and right atrial pressure was rapidly increased. At the same time, plasma level of ANP was rised suddenly. Increase of ANP level was correlated (p<0.05) with the increase of total bypass time, but was not correlated statistical with aortic cross clamp time. ANP level did not fall rapidly after aortic cross clamp while both atria were completely empty. This result was explained by intraoperative hypothermia at that time, which can inactivate plasmal endopeptidase and catalytic receptors of ANP. The ANP level of atrial fibrillation group in cardiac patients were generally higher than normal sinus group, but there was no statistical correlation.

Experimental investigation of residual stresses in cold formed steel sections

  • Residual stresses play important role for design of steel structural members. Cold formed sections usually have residual stresses caused by roll forming. When compared to stresses caused by the working load, especially for compressed members, the effects of residual stresses can be favorable or unfavorable depending on magnitude, orientation and distribution of these stresses. The research presented in this paper includes experimental investigations of residual stresses, initial imperfections and material properties on cold formed carbon steel open cross sections. Experimental results have been compared to results obtained in similar tests with stainless and high strength steel cross sections. Theoretical and experimental research, conducted for cold formed open cross sections, are important for design of axially compressed members. This paper presents two methods of residual stresses investigation: magnetic method and method of pre-drilled holes and obtained results have been compared with results of residual stresses from other authors.

Alternative Potentials Analyzing the Scattering Cross Sections of 7,9,10,11,12,14Be Isotopes from a 12C target: Proximity Potentials

  • In this paper, alternative potentials to explain the scattering cross sections of $^{7,9,10,11,12,14}Be$ isotopes by a $^{12}C$ target nucleus at different energies are researched. For this purpose, fourteen different proximity potentials, such as Proximity 1966, Proximity 1976, Proximity 1977, Proximity 1979, Proximity 1984, Proximity 1988, Proximity 1995, Broglia and Winther 1991, Aage Winther, Bass 1973, Bass 1977, Bass 1980, Christensen and Winther 1976, and $Ng{\hat{o}}$ 1980, are used to produce the real potential within the optical model. The imaginary potential is formed by using the Woods-Saxon potential. The theoretical results are compared with both experimental data and data reported in the literature. The results are in good agreement with the data. The proximity potentials are observed to play a significant role in obtaining the scattering cross sections of $^{7,9,10,11,12,14}Be$ isotopes.

Web Cross Browsing of Korean Enterprises and Public Institutions According to International Guidelines (국제 표준을 통해 살펴 본 한국 기업과 공공기관의 웹사이트 호환성)

  • Korea is one of the most advanced countries in the world in terms of information technologies (IT) applications and usages. However, its web browser market is so dominated by one company, and its web cross browsing according to international guidelines isquestioned. In this research, we have empirically examined web cross browsing of web sites of major companies and pubic institutions in Korea through different web browsers which conform international guidelines. In general, web cross browsing through Firefox was lower by 19% than that through Internet Explorer. Web cross browsing of public institutions was better than that of companies, and financial institutions were the worst. Typical cross browsing problems found with Firefox were inability to pay online, failure to play multimedia contents, and frame display errors. Causes of web cross browsing problems and suggestions for improving cross browsing are discussed.

  • In this study, I examined the relationship between the pattern of Tungp'o (東坡体)'s characters play, Paza(破字) and Nanji(難字), Iruiimyo(異類異名) the Chinese characters play, developed in the Edo period in Japan. I found out the following. First, Nanji and Iruiimyo's method of Chinese character transformation is like Tungp'o(東坡体)'s characters play and Paza(破字), that is to make an analysis of Chinese character. For example, to extend or shorten to character's length, and to increase or reduce the character's size. And, I also found out there is no block type characters play in Nanji and Iruiimyo. Second, I also found that the similarity of the method of Chinese character transformation between the pattern of Tungp'o(東坡体)'s characters play, Paza(破字) and Nanji(難字), Iruiimyo(異類異名). The method of to flip character (180 degrees) and to letting character lie down (90 degrees) is very similar each other. But there is no method to make incline of character (45 degrees) in Nanji and Iruiimyo. Third, I found that the method to extract part of character also exists in Chinese and Japanese characters play. And, I also found that the method to decompose characters in half from the pattern of Tungp'o(東坡体)'s characters play, but I can't find this method from Nanji and Iruiimyo. To decompose characters in half is very like the method of paja. So, we can understand that Nanji and Iruiimyo is located in the middle stage of the pattern of between Tungp'o(東坡体)'s characters play and Paza(破字).
