Diagnostic Test of XLPE Ultra High Voltage Electric Power Cable (XLPE 특고압 전력케이블의 절연 진단)

  • A diagnostic test of 15.4kV cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) ultra high voltage power cables from generator in the Soyanggang hydro electric power plant was conducted over 3 months, beginning April 2001. According to the results, in the case of the power cables from generator 1, there was little possibility of proceeding rapid1y to failure or defect because the data from diagnosis doesn't indicate any failure, deterioration or partial discharge. However, in the case of the power cables from generator 2, the. polarization index show a slight abnormal condition of the insulator that is not severe, and the deterioration was also identified as not severe. However, the partial discharge had an abnormal condition which was severe.

  • In recent the XLPE cable has been applied more widely because of its advantages, such as the low-cost and simple installation. For a prefabricated joint, its working time is short, its jointing procedures aγe simple, and its quality control is easy. Electrical performance targets of our developed 66kV cable accessories has been approved through the type test in accordance with IEC publication 840. This paper describes the developmental effort in terms of the design, structure and results of performance verification tests for 66kV XLPE cable system.

The Analysis of Discharge Distribution due to the Inner Void of Extra High Voltage Cable

  • This paper addresses the discharge characteristics of cross-linked polyethylene according to void by the Weibull function. It analyzes discharge number and amount of discharge using Weibull distribution to identify the inter-relationship between partial discharge and defect. We detected a 10 second discharge. The applied voltage increased by 1 [kV] at discharge inception voltage. As a result, in a no-void specimen, the shape parameter was consistent according to the increase of voltage, whereas, in a void specimen, it increased according to the increase of voltage. As the result, the shape parameter expressed a fixed value at no-void specimen. However, in void specimen, according to increasing voltage shape parameter rapidly increases.

  • Electrical stress makes insulating materials aged finally resulting in the dielectric failure. It becomes more and more important to recognize the degree of aging and the life time of the insulating materials since it is directly concerned with the reliability of the insulation system. In this paper, the life time of the Cross-linked Polyethylene(XLPE), the insulation layer in the 154kV-grade power cable, is expected and calculated using statistical and mathematical methods. The simulated results are compared with experimental ones and the life exponent of the material is obtained.

  • Globally, oil-filled paper-insulated cables and cross-linked polyethylene-insulated cables have been mainly applied for a underground power transmission line. The oil-filled cable has the hydraulic system in which insulating oil, expanded and contracted by temperature changes, is absorbed and supplied. This system enable us to detect oil leakages from the cable. But it has some problems such as difficulty in detecting minor leakages and a relatively long period of fault detecting. And so, this paper introduce a new leakage detection system, improved from the current one.

  • 서강대교와 같은 장경간 교량에 초고압 전력케이블을 설치하는 경우에는 교량의 큰 신축을 흡수하기 위하여 케이블을 장대옵셋으로 설치하는 것이 불가피하게 되고, 장대옵셋 케이블이 균등하게 변형할 수 있도록 신축균등흡수장치를 실증시험을 통하여 국내에서 최초로 개발하고 154kV 중여T/L 구간중 서강대교에 총12기를 설치 완료하였다. 본 고에서는 그 개요를 소개하고자 한다.

  • Solid insulation exposed to voltage is degraded by electrical tree process. And the degradation of the insulation is accelerated by voltage application. For this experimental, specimen of e1ectrical tree model is made by XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene). And the size of the specimen is $7*5*7\;mm^3$. Distance of need1e and plane is 2 mm. Voltages applied for acceleration test are 12 kV to 15 kV. And distribution characteristic of degraded stage is studied too. As a PD detecting and data process, discharge data acquire from PD detecting system (Biddle instrument). The system presents statistical distribution as phase resolved. Moreover the processing time of electrical tree is recorded to know the speed of degradation according to voltage.

  • In this thesis, it is investigated that the effect of the cross linked polyethylene(XLPE) insulator do to breakdown phenomenon by the insertion of the needle and bar electrode into XLPE which is used of electric power cable for the ultra-high voltage. The result of the partial discharge properties in the specimen showed that in case of the insertion of needle or bar electrode into XLPE, the effect of the inner discharge become large when the air void is bigger then the clearance of the electrode of the specimen. The closer the distance between the insulator and needle electrode, it takes less time to the insulation breakdown.
