  • A new CMOS current-mode integrator for low-voltage analog integrated circuit design is presented. The proposed current-mode integrator is based on cross-coupled gain-boosting topology. When it is compared with that of the typical current-mirror type current-mode integrator, the proposed current-mode integrator achieves high current gain and unity gain frequency with the same transistor size. As a application circuit of the proposed integrator, we designed the 1.8V 200MHz band current-mode lowpass filter. These are verified by Hspice simulation using $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

  • A real-time monitoring of immersed antenna type inductively coupled plasma (ICP) was done with a homemade 2 dimensional voltage probe array to check the uniformity of the plasma. Measured voltage values with a high impedance voltmeter are close to the floating potential of the plasma. As the substrate carrier was moving into a magnetron sputtering plasma diffusive from a $125mm{\times}625mm$ size cathode, measured results showed reliably separation of plasma into the upper and lower empty space over the carrier. Infra red thermal imaging camera was used to observe the cross corner effect in situ without eroding a target to the end of the usage. 3 dimensional particle trace model was used to analyze the magnetron discharge's behavior.

  • An iris-coupled partial H-plane filter as a new type of partial H-plane filter is proposed. The proposed filter can be compared with conventional H-plane filter and uses an iris-type evanescent waveguide as a coupling structure. Filter design technique based on numerical simulation is developed to design and compare the proposed filter and H-plane filter. Designed iris-coupled partial H-plane filter has the same frequency response as that of the conventional H-plane filter while its cross section is one quarter. A good agreement between measurements and theoretical prediction is achieved.

  • In this paper, a technique for increasing the bandwidth of microstrip array antennas using the parallel coupled lines on a single layer is presented. Four types of wideband microstrip array antenna are designed and the characteristics of each type are analyzed. In addition, an iterative method using a distributed network is proposed to design the parallel coupled lines as a wideband impedance matching network. Measurements show that the proposed antennas provide wider bandwidths ∼1.7 times those of conventional microstirp array antennas, while the sizes of proposed antennal are the same as that of a conventional array. And low cross-polarization level can be obtained through symmetrical locations of the parallel coupled lines section

  • Buckling Restrained Braces (BRB) have been widely used in the construction industry as they utilize the most desirable properties of both constituent materials, i.e., steel and concrete. They present excellent structural qualities such as high load bearing capacity, ductility, energy-absorption capability and good structural fire behaviour. The effects of size and type of filler material in the existed gap at the steel core-concrete interface as well as the element's cross sectional shape, on BRB's fire resistance capacity was investigated in this paper. A nonlinear sequentially-coupled thermal-stress three-dimensional model was presented and validated by experimental results. Variation of the samples was described by three groups containing, the steel cores with the same cross section areas and equal yield strength but different materials (metal and concrete) and sizes for the gap. Responses in terms of temperature distribution, critical temperature, heating elapsed time and contraction level of BRB element were examined. The study showed that the superior fire performance of BRB was obtained by altering the filler material in the gap from metal to concrete as well as by increasing the size of the gap. Also, cylindrical BRB performed better under fire conditions compared to the rectangular cross section.

  • The plasma polymerized styrene films were prepared by using an inter-electrode capacitively coupled gas-flow-type reactor, and the effects of plasma polymerization condition on the molecular weight distribution were investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography(PyGC), Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) and Gel Permeation Chromatography(GPC). From the above results, the very cross-linked films different from chemical characteristics of the starting monomer were taken out, and it is realized that the molecular structure, cross linking density, and molecular weight distribution could be controlled by changing the parameters such as deposition pressure, deposition power and gas flow rate. Accordingly, it is suggested that plasma polymerization method performed by inter-electrode capacitively coupled gas-flow-type reactor has good characteristics for manufacturing the functional organic thin films which can be applied in sensors, opto-electric device, photo-resist by changing the polymerization parameters.

  • A new analytical solution based on a third order shear deformation theory for the problem of static analysis of cross-ply doubly-curved shells is presented. The boundary-discontinuous generalized double Fourier series method is used to solve highly coupled linear partial differential equations with the mixed type simply supported boundary conditions prescribed on the edges. The complementary boundary constraints are introduced through boundary discontinuities generated by the selected boundary conditions for the derivation of the complementary solution. The numerical accuracy of the solution is compared by studying the comparisons of deflections, stresses and moments of symmetric and anti-symmetric laminated shells with finite element results using commercially available software under uniformly distributed load. Results are in good agreement with finite element counterparts. Additional results of the symmetric and anti-symmetric laminated and sandwich shells under single point load at the center and pressure load, are presented to provide data for the unsolved boundary conditions, benchmark comparisons and verifications.

  • A novel push-pull voltage converter structure, using a switched capacitor type voltage doubler, is proposed. The circuit is constructed with a two-stage push-pull voltage doubler that has a stable operation with small output ripple. The two-stage voltage doubler creates the output voltage 4Vdd. The high clock signal is cross-coupled to the input of the second stage with the opposite phase to reduce two switching transistors and capacitors. Simulation results verify that even with a reduced number of transistor and capacitor, there is no circuit performance loss. Adding one capacitor and two switching transistors the circuit can be changed to eight times of Vdd maker.

  • In scanning tunneling microscopy, the piezoelectric actuator is popuilarly used in stacked type as it can provide remarkable positioning resolution and stiffness. The actuator, however, exhibits a considerable amount of hystereic nonlinearity, resulting in losses of overall measuring accuracy when a linear model is used for its control and calibration, In this study, a nonlinear model is proposed for predicting the precise relationship between the input connand voltage and the output displacement of the actuator itself, cross-coupled electrical behaviours of the driving circuit with the actuator, and mechanical characteristics of the driven components of the actuator. Finally experimental results prove that the nonlinear model enhances the measuring of scanning tunneling microscopy by an order ten in comparison with a conventional linear model.

  • The $H_{\infty}$ control theory using LMI method is applied to design an attitude controller of radial type satellite that has strongly coupled channels due to the large product of inertia. It is observed that the cross-over frequency of open-loop with $H_{\infty}$ controller is lower than that of open-loop without controller, which is not typical phenomenon in an optimal control design result: it is interpreted that due to a large product of inertia, there is certain limit in increasing agility of satellite by just tuning weighting function. ${\mu}$-analysis is performed to verify the stability and performance robustness with the assumption of +/-5% MOI variation. ${\mu}$-analysis result shows that the variation of principal MOI degrades the stability and performance robustness more than the variation of POI does.
