플랫폼 비즈니스에서의 승자독식 현상에 영향을 미치는 서비스 특성 (Service Characteristics Leading to "Winner-takes-all" Phenomenon in Platform Business)

  • The market of platform business is typically served by a few dominant players, presenting "winner-takes-all" phenomenon. This study aims to find service characteristics leading to the phenomenon. Six different service-characteristics were considered : Same-side network effect, cross-side network effects, entry barrier, multi-homing cost, switching cost, and heterogeneity of preference. To assess the degree of concentration of market share, HHI (Herfindahl-Hirschman Index) is calculated for top three major players. Based on the HHI value, 10 most eminent platform businesses are classified into three different segments and each segment is characterized with key factors. The results from this study provide some insight into the strategic management of platform business.

  • Business process reengineering(BPR) aims at a radical redesign of our business processes in order to achieve dramatic improvements in their performance. However, the fact that many BPR projects have failed hesitates the companies who have started to use BPR or who are planning to do so. Implementing a radical plan from a cross-functional perspective needs a more careful consideration of process vision, preventive measures and contigency plan. Our research suggests to use a visual decision making process (VDMP) in the development of a process vision and implementation plan. A BPR project of Carlaon School of Mnagement (CSOM) at the University of Minnesota is illustrated to show our suggested methodology.

가상 프로젝트 조직의 개인관점 지식역량 평가 (Knowledge Evaluation of Individual Competence for Virtual Project Organization)

  • Virtual project organization may be recognized as one of the promising business models in which many knowledge sources externalize through cross boundaries of knowledge-based organizations. This paper proposes a knowledge competence evaluation of virtual project organization based on the following perspectives: 1) Individual knowledge perspective, 2) Activity-oriented knowledge perspective, and 3) Knowledge-driven social network perspective. In the framework, individual knowledge competence having experienced or learned from knowledge-based activities and virtual networks in the project, should be evaluated according to the assumption that knowledge and collaboration competence depends on the activities and networks acquired proportionally by the past participation to projects. An illustrative SI example is given in order to validate the proposed evaluation and computing procedure.

Restructuring and Performance among Japanese Firms after Prudential Policy Reform

  • After over a decade of sluggish economic growth accompanied by massive fiscal stimulus in the 1990s, it remains an open question whether and how Japanese firms have restructured their operations, and whether these efforts have borne any fruit. Using a randomly selected sample of 300 firms from the Tokyo Stock Exchange, we collect all restructuring announcement in the FY 2000-2001 (April 2000-March 2002) period. Our results are striking in that while we find that firms engaging in restructuring of various sorts display improved earnings in the period following the restructuring announcement, shareholders do not appear to benefit at the time of the restructuring announcements.

BSC 프로젝트 활동이 기업의 업무혁신에 미치는 영향 (An Exploratory Study on the BSC Project Issues Influencing Business Process Innovation)

  • The research is intended to satisfy two interesting research purposes: one is to examine activities of both BSC adotion phase and implementation phase under carrying BSC project. The second purpose is to analyze the influence from those activities towards innovating business world. This study was conducted thru online questionnaires via online survey system during 3 months for targeting mainly on business users and consultants. The findings of the study suggest that employee's involvement, BSC information sharing, collaboration cross task related teams have major roles to operate BSC successfully. From findings, KPI choice, top-down goal allocation, budgeting allocation have strong influences on upgrading business innovations. Those businesses like to considering adoption of BSC can benefit from the findings of the research.

  • According to Sun Tzu's Art of War, "if you know yourself and your enemy you win hundred battles out of a hundred." This is also apply for international business field. International business negotiation will not be failed if you know counter party's behavior and understand their culture and customs. The cooperative approach is known as interest-based negotiation. Interest-based negotiation is particularly effective in a global business characterized by diversity. We often need to reach agreement with people who are different from us - culturally, ethnically, or economically. If we cannot get beyond the differences, they can create obstacles to agreement. To do this, we need to focus on the interests of the parties instead of on the parties' differences. Every culture has their own distinctive feature that the people from outside seems not understand but they must have the optimistic attitude which complies with. The purpose of this paper, from the point of view above, is to examine cultural differences that could make sure comparative advantage in business negotiation of the enterprises who eager to expand their market or to invest internationally. This paper especially shows cultural deferences among Korea, China and Japan in terms of business we must consider.

The Impact of Impulse Buying on Retail Markets in Indonesia

  • This research aims to examine and analyze the impact of customer shifting behavior on the shopping emotion. Based on impulse buying, customers tend to behave recently based on the constructed variables of impulse buying, outlet ambience, hedonic shopping value utilitarian shopping value, and shopping emotion. This study employs samples/survey data of the population consisted of Asian women parents in Indonesia. The survey data of this research is based on observations using time series with cross-section/one-shot, which was done in 2019. The results indicate that variable outlet ambience, hedonic shopping value, and shopping emotion have a positive and significant impact on impulse buying. Whereas the utilitarian shopping value variable has a positive but not significant relationship against impulse buying. There is a positive influence between ambience outlets and utilitarian shopping value on shopping emotion. The variable hedonic shopping value has a negative and not significant relationship towards shopping emotion. The finding of this study suggests that both the retail stores and even the superstores must pay more attention to the design of outlet ambience to create the hedonic shopping value and eventually may attempt the attention of the impulse buying customers.

The Synchronization of ASEAN +3 Business Cycles: Prerequisites for Common Currency Union

  • This study aims to analyze the relationship between the business cycles of the ASEAN +3 countries. In addition, the effects of the spillover value on the coincident indicators are determined. This study employs secondary data and uses multivariate time series of five ASEAN countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. The proxy was the real gross domestic product (GDP) collected annually from the CEIC, the IMF, and the World Bank for the period from 1964 to 2016. The data was plotted against two time periods, 1964-1998 as the pre-crisis period, and 1999-2016 as the post-crisis period. The index data was changed to the base year 2010. The data was subsequently separated from the trends and the cyclic components. The cyclic components were obtained by using Hondrick-Prescott filter, and them were further analyzed. The analytical method used was Contemporaneous and Cross-Correlation tools. The results showed that, before and after the crisis, the value of the business cycle correlation between ASEAN +3 countries was stronger and moved together at the same level of lag value. The implication of this research was an initial finding of the ASEAN +3 countries' prerequisites for the formation of a common currency.

각시붕어(Rhodeus uyekii)와 흰줄납줄개(Rhodeus ocellatus) 잡종의 초기생활사 특징 (Early Life History Characteristics of an Induced Hybrid between Rhodeus uyekii and Rhodeus ocellatus)

  • This study was conducted to identify taxonomic differences in the characteristics of Rhodeus uyekii and Rhodeus ocellatus during their initial life history via an interspecific hybridization experiment. Hybrids were compared to their parent species, and the findings were used to inform developmental research in commercially useful aquarium fish. The hatching rates of the cross-bred eggs were 75.9% for cross UO (R. uyekii ♀${\times}$R. ocellatus♂) and 71.9% for cross OU (R. ocellatus♀${\times}$R. uyekii♂), which did not differ greatly from the hatching rates of the normal cross-bred group. Backcross experiments resulted in 100% egg mortality during development. Newly hatched larvae of the original hybrid crosses were similar to those of the maternal line, and the color of the egg yolk was similar to that of the paternal line; therefore, the respective traits of the interspecific parents were identifiable within the cross-bred offspring.

FTA 교차누적조항의 해석에 관한 연구: 한국 수출기업들의 이행방안을 중심으로 (A Study on Interpretation of Cross-cumulation Clauses in FTAs: Focusing on Implications for Korean Exporting Firms)

  • The Korea-Canada FTA and the EVTA have adopted cross-cumulation clauses in their rules of origin, aiming at the enhancement of the value chains among the FTA parties. In fact, intricate rules of origin are often considered as the major cause that discourages the utilization of the agreement for the exporting firms. From this perspective, the correct understanding of cross-cumulation clauses in FTAs is an urgent mission for the Korean exporters as well, and the EVTA, which has recently introduced the cross-cumulation method in a linkage with the Korea-EU FTA provides the timely motivation. This paper first analyzes the Korea-Canada FTA of 2015 as for the case study, because this is a unique trade agreement for Korea that has already adopted the cross-cumulation clauses. It is concluded that the clause is rather vague, particularly in certifying the origins of the intermediate goods from the territory of an authorized third party. From this perspective, the recently-ratified EVTA is particularly important and meaningful with its clearer explanations for the utilization of the privileged rules of origin. The paper finalizes the study by making policy suggestions to the stakeholders, expecting more future FTAs to come equipped with similar cumulative rules of origin, and implies the possibility of the modification of the current clauses in the FTA with Canada.
