  • Background and Objectives : With the development of computerized systems, an objective evaluation methods of nasal speech and nasal geometry have become readily available by means of a simple, noninvasive technique. In this study, we assessed the nasality, nasal formant, nasal volume and nasal area in patients with hypertrophic rhinitis before and after turbinate surgery. Material and Method : With the nasometer, we measured nasalance, which reflects the ratio of acoustic energy output of nasal sounds from the nasal and oral cavities. With CSL 4300B, we measured nasal formants. We used acoustic rhinometer to measure nasal area and nasal volume. Postoperative changes of above factors were compared with preoperative values. Paired t-test and Pearson's correlation were used for statistical analysis. Results : The first nasal formant frequency, nasalance scores of three passages(baby, mamma and rabbit passages), minimal cross sectional area(MCA) of narrow side, nasal volume of narrow side and nasal volume of wide side had increased significantly after turbinate surgery (p <0.05). The MCA and nasal volume of narrow side and MCA of wide side showed significant correlation with nasalance score of rabbit passage and baby passage showed significant correlation with nasal volume of narrow side(p<0.05). Conclusion : There were significant increases in nasalance scores, first nasal formant frequency, MCA and nasal volume after turbinate surgery. Thus, we must consider the possibility of voice changes postoperatively in professional voice users.

  • High-speed trains have been developed widely in many countries in order to transport large quantity of people and commodities rapidly. When a high speed train enters a tunnel, aerodynamic resistance is generated suddenly. The resistance caused from air pressure induces micro pressure wave and discomfort to passengers in a train. Therefore, a pressure relief system should be installed in a tunnel to reduce the resistance acting against the running train in a tunnel. Additionally, the shape of a grain should be streamlined in order to reduce aerodynamic resistance caused by a high-speed train. The cross-section of a tunnel also should be carefully designed to reduce discomfort of passengers. This study represents the effect of pressure relief ducts installed between two running tunnels. The pressure relief duct was integrated with a cross-passage in order to save cost and construction time. One-dimensional network numerical simulations were carried out in order to estimate the effect of pressure relief systems.

  • The effect of stress factors on the growing process of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of the sensitized 18-8 stainless steel in high temperature water was investigated using equations of crack growth rate derived from applying electric circuits to SCC corrosion paths. Three kinds of cross sections have to be considered when electric circuit is constructed using total current. The first is ion flow passage area, $S_{sol}$, of solution in crack, the second is total dissolving surface area, $S_{dis}$, of metal on electrode of crack tip and the third is dissolving cross section, $S_{met}$, of metal on grain boundary or in base metal or in welding metal. Stress may affect each area. $S_{sol}$ may depend on applied stress, $\sigma_{\infty}$, related with crack depth. $S_{dis}$ is expressed using a factor of $\varepsilon(K)$ and may depend on stress intensity factor, K only. SCC crack growth rate is ordinarily estimated using a variable of K only as stress factor. However it may be expected that SCC crack growth rate depends on both applied stress $\sigma_{\infty}$ and K or both crack depth and K from this consideration.$\varepsilon(K)$ is expressed as ${\varepsilon}(K)=h_2{\cdot}K^2+h_3{\cdot}K^3$ when $h_{2}$ and $h_{3}$ are coefficients. Also, relationships between SCC crack growth rate, da/dt and K were simulated and compared with the literature data of JBWR-VIP-04, NRC NUREG-0313 Rev.2 and SKIFS Draft. It was pointed out in CT test that the difference of distance between a point of application of force and the end of starter notch (starting point of fatigue crack) may be important to estimate SCC crack growth rate. An anode dissolution current density was quantitatively evaluated using a derived equation.

  • The broadband and discrete sources of sound in small cooling fans of propeller type and centrifugal type were investigated to understand the turbulent vortex structures from many bladed fans using ANSI test plenum for small air-moving devices (AMDs). The noise measurement method uses the plenum as a test apparatus to determine the acoustic source spectral density function at each operating conditions similar to real engineering applications based on acoustic similarity laws. The characteristics of fans including the head rise vs. volumetric flow rate performance were measured using a performance test facility. The sound power spectrum is decomposed into two non-dimensional functions: an acoustic source spectral distribution function F(St,.phi.) and an acoustic system response function G(He,.phi.) where St, He, and .phi. are the Strouhal number, the Helmholtz number, and the volumetric flow rate coefficient, respectively. The autospectra of radiated noise measurements for the fan operating at several volumetric flow rates,.phi., are analyzed using acoustical similarity. The rotating stall in the small propeller fan with a bell-mouth guided is mainly due to a leading edge separation. It creates a blockage in the passage and the reduction in the flow rate. The sound power levels with respect to the rotational speeds were measured to reveal the mechanisms of stall and/or surge for different loading conditions and geometries, for example, fans installed with a impinging plate. Lee and Meecham (1993) studied the effect of the large-scale motions like impinging normally on a flat plate using Large-Eddy Simulation(LES) and Lighthill's analogy.[ASME Winter Annual Meeting 1993, 93-WA/NCA-22]. The dipole and quadrupole sources in the fans tested are shown closely related to the vortex structures involved using cross-correlations of the hot-wire and microphone signals.

  • Protein unfolding is a key step in several cellular processes, including protein translocation across some membranes and protein degradation by ATP-dependent proteases. C1pAP protease and the proteasome can actively unfold proteins in a process that hydrolyzes ATP, These proteases catalyze unfolding by processively unraveling their substrates from the attachment point of the degradation signal. As a consequence, the ability of a protein to be degraded depends on its structure as well as its stability. An ${\alpha}$-helix is easier to unravel than a ${\beta}$-strand. In multidomain proteins, independently stable domains are unfolded sequentially. The steric constraints imposed on substrate proteins during their degradation by the proteasome were investigated by constructing a model protein in which specific parts of the polypeptide chain were covalently connected through disulfide bridges. The cross-linked model proteins were fully degraded by the proteasome, but two or more cross-links retarded the degradation slightly. Our results suggest that the pore of the proteasome allows the concurrent passage of at least three stretches of a polypeptide chain, and also explain the limited degradation by the proteasome that occurs in the processing of the transcription factor NF-KB, and also implicate difficulty in degradation of amyloidal aggregates by the proteasome

  • As a living space, house constitutes a good part of inhabitants' life, making the rhythm of life. This rhythm tends to be reflected into the house, establishing a sort of intercommunications between the house and its inhabitants. Becoming a living element, the house can endow the writer with literary resources. It is interrelated with its inhabitants. Thus, Duras' work preserves many invisible and fusional traces of links between her characters and the house. With her writing, the house displays important traces of life, with which a body of meaning is to be formed. It implies habits, imprints, links, and so on. Here, its projection into the imaginary also takes place for our writer. With this perspective in view, Duras is supposed to objectify her characters as physical and imaginary bodies. This introduces the passage from the real to the imaginary and vice versa. Unknown stories hidden behind the living places can come to manifest themselves through her writing.

  • The Hong Kong issue covered in the study refers to the problems caused by the various measures and policies taken by the Chinese government since Hong Kong's return to China on July 1, 1997, and the resistance and resistance shown by the Hong Kong people. Since Hong Kong's return The Chinese government carried out a policy of strengthening direct control over Hong Kong, and on June 30, 2020, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China passed the Hong Kong National Security Act. This study will focus on the impact of the Hong Kong issue on Cross-Strait Relations. Through this, we will take a look at the application of the "one-country, two-system" policy, Taiwan and China's Unification Issues and the democratization of Hong Kong. This study predicts that after the passage of the "Hong kong National security law," the principle of "one-country, two-system" that China tried to apply to unification with Taiwan will be put into a big test, and that Cross-Strait Relations and U.S.-China relations will deteriorate. Tension will quickly arise around Northeast Asia in the future, and we should also analyze and prepare for it in various ways.

  • In this study, using data from the second wave of Panel Survey of Employment for The Disabled[PESD] (2016) to the sixth year (2021), the longitudinal changes between disability acceptance and job satisfaction of adult wage workers aged 20 or older with disabilities and the correlation An autoregressive cross-lagged model was applied to analyze the causal relationship. As a result of the analysis, first, the disability acceptance and job satisfaction at the previous time point of the disabled workers were stably significant to the disability acceptance(𝛽=.556~.610) and job satisfaction(𝛽=.554~.585) at the later time point. Second, disability acceptance at the previous point in time for wage workers with disabilities crosses the job satisfaction at the later time point(𝛽=.077~.090), and the job satisfaction at the previous point crosses the disability acceptance at the later time point(𝛽=.087~.092). Third, as a result of model fit analysis according to the gender group of wage workers with disabilities, the difference in the autoregressive effect between disability acceptance and job satisfaction and the cross-lagged effect between disability acceptance and job satisfaction according to the passage of time was not significant.

  • In accordance with the stipulations of the STCW Convention, simulation training has been enforced in order to develop practical skills so as to prevent accidents by predetermining the risks in special marine environments. Simulation training is a useful way to acquire navigation abilities, and can continuously measure the ability of a trainee by applying an appropriate evaluation. However, the result of training is evaluated by the instructor's subjective judgment without quantitative criteria. Therefore, this study aims to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of simulation training. For this purpose, evaluation items were derived by analyzing legal standards, earlier studies, and the current status of MET institutions. The simulations were then performed three times in the same scenarios and analyzed the results. As a result, it has been shown that the objectively analyzed ability to keep the route and to make safe passage with other vessel, as well as subjectively evaluated ability by the apprentice officer has been improved as training progressed. Through the evaluation of simulation training results, it can be derived that simulation education needs supplementation, and can be provided as a basic form of data to quantify the evaluation results of the simulation training in the future.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the level of the cognitive function, and to identify the influencing factors on cognitive function in women cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. This study attempted to provide basic data useful to development of nursing intervention and improve the quality of life in women cancer patients. Methods : As a cross-sectional descriptive study, women with receiving chemotherapy above one cycle were recruited. One hundred and twenty-five women cancer patients who met the study criteria agreed to participate in the study. The questionnaire set consisted of cognitive function, quality of life, depression, anxiety and information on demographic and clinical characteristics. Results : There was no statistically significant difference in clinical characteristics according to the cognitive function. The cognitive function was higher the more low age (F=9.937, p<.001), and the more high education level (F=12.332, p<.001). Multiple regression analysis showed the predictors were significantly related to cognitive function. age, education, and the number of chemotherapy explained 31.8% of the cognitive function. Conclusions : This result of this study provides basic information about factors influencing cognitive function, although study findings are insufficient in explaining related variables among women cancer patients. Even though women cancer patients were receiving chemotherapy, this study showed that the level of cognitive function was high. In order to receive better results and findings the period decreasing cognitive function, further studies are need to measure cognitive function according to the passage of time during or after chemotherapy.
