  • A vibration analysis for a rotating cantilever beam with the tapered cross section is presented in this study. The stiffness changes due to the stretching caused by centrifugal inertia forces when a tapered cantilever beam rotates about the axis perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. When the cross section of cantilever beam are assumed to decrease constantly, the mass and stiffness also change according to the variation of the thickness and width ratio of a tapered cantilever beam. Such phenomena result in variations of natural frequencies and mode shapes. Therefore it is important to the equations of motion in order to be obtained accurate predictions of these variations. The equations of motion of a rotating tapered cantilever beam are derived by using hybrid deformation variable modeling method and numerical results are obtained along with the angular velocity and the thickness and width ratio.

  • The fracture strength of cross groove type constant velocity joint is largely determined by the fracture strength of the cage having window-like pockets for retaining the torque transmitting balls. A stress distribution acting on the cage is influenced by rigidities of the rim portion and of the column members, therefore requires a calculation such as FEA. To analyze fracture strength of cage, a 3-D elasto-plastic finite element analysis and a submodeling technique are used to achieve both computational efficiency and accuracy. The results are in reasonably good agreement with experiment.

  • The kinematically admissible velocity field is developed for the analysis of extruded products. The curving of product in extrusion is caused by the linearly distributed longitudinal velocity on the cross-section of the workpiece at the die exit. In the analysis, the longitudinal velocity in extrusion direction is divided into the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. In order to satify the requirement of the kinematically admissible velocity field, the average value of the deviated velocity should be zero. At the same time, it should Iinearly change with the destance from the center of gravity of the cross-section of the workpiece. The results of the analysis show that the curvature of product incresses with increses in eccentricity of gravity center of the cross-section of workpiece at die entrance from that of the cross-sectio at the die exit.

In Vivo Quantitative Analysis of PKA Subunit Interaction and cAMP Level by Dual Color Fluorescence Cross Correlation Spectroscopy

  • We employed dual color Fluorescence Cross Correlation Spectroscopy (FCCS) to measure the interaction between PKA regulatory (RII) and catalytic subunits (CAT) in living cells. Elevation of intracellular cAMP with forskolin decreased the cross-correlation amplitude between RFP-fused RII (RII -mRFP) and GFP-fused CAT (CAT-EGFP) by 50%, indicating that cAMP elevation leads to dissociation of RII-CAT complexes. Moreover, diffusion coefficient analysis showed that the diffusion rate of CAT-EGFP was significantly increased, suggesting that the decreased RII-CAT association caused by cAMP generated free CAT subunits. Our study demonstrates that in vivo FCCS measurements and their quantitative analysis permit one not only to directly quantify protein-protein interactions but also to estimate changes in the intracellular cAMP concentration.

  • PSC box bridge by MSS construction method may not be set at cross section at one step. Web and bottom flange(U member) would be set at first, top flange will be set later with a time lag. In this case, U member and top flange concrete have different strain history. As two different aged section behaves as the composite section, there would happen the redistribution of stress. This is come from time-dependent strain characteristics of concrete itself. In this study, two models are considered, one with considering the set time of cross section and the other without. By performing longitudinal analysis of two models on considering construction stage, the stress differences of two are compared. As the analysis results show a considerable differences in the stresses of cross section between two models, the set time of cross section is needed for rational design f PSC box girder bridge.

Numerical Study on Defect Analysis of Hot Cross Wedge Rolling Process (열간전조공정의 공정결함 분석을 위한 해석적 연구)

  • Hot cross wedge rolling process as an incremental forming has many advantages such as the material usage, the short process time, the automatic equipment line and the low forming load. However, it occurs some defects such as the surface groove, the axis warping and the Mannesmann hole. In this paper, the defect of the Mannesmann hole was carried out. Finite element analysis was utilized to reveal the stress distribution, the rotation of the specimen and the change of section profile. Cross wedge rolling experiment was also conducted on the generation of the Mannesmann hole. It was demonstrated according to the spreading angle with respect to the various types of material. In the view point of metal flow, the smaller forming angle and the larger spreading angle increase opportunities of the defect hole generations.

Lateral vibration control of a low-speed maglev vehicle in cross winds

  • This paper presents a framework of nonlinear dynamic analysis of a low-speed moving maglev (magnetically levitated) vehicle subjected to cross winds and controlled using a clipped-LQR actuator with time delay compensation. A four degrees-of-freedom (4-DOFs) maglev-vehicle equipped with an onboard PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller traveling over guideway girders was developed to regulate the electric current and control voltage. With this maglev-vehicle/guideway model, dynamic interaction analysis of a low-speed maglev vehicle with guideway girders was conducted using an iterative approach. Considering the time-delay issue of unsynchronized tuning forces in control process, a clipped-LQR actuator with time-delay compensation is developed to improve control effectiveness of lateral vibration of the running maglev vehicle in cross winds. Numerical simulations demonstrate that although the lateral response of the maglev vehicle moving in cross winds would be amplified significantly, the present clipped-LQR controller exhibits its control performance in suppressing the lateral vibration of the vehicle.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a Cross Impact System Alternatives Tree(CISAT) model necessary for selecting the interdependent R&D planning system alternatives. This model modifies System Alternatives Tree(SAT) model developed by Kwon et al.. The SAT model is composed of several functions necessary for the achievement of a final goal and several subsystems for satisfying each function. In case that the relationship of technology alternatives is interdependent, this model overlooked a relative importance derived from occurrence or nonoccurrence of the technology alternatives in the future time varience. However, a complex evaluation process within the ballot system is another disadvantage of the SAT. To solve such problems, the Cross Impact Analysis(CIA) model is applied in the SAT model so as to consider the cross impact among interdependent system alternatives.

  • Spreading sequence play an important role in wireless communications, such as in a CDMA(code division multiple access) communication system and multi-carrier spectrum communication system. Spreading sequences with low cross-correlation, in a direct-sequence spread spectrum communication system, help to minimize multiple access interference and to increase security degree of system. Analysis of cross-correlations between the sequences is a necessary process to design sequences. However it require lots of computing time for analysis of cross-correlations between sequences. In this paper we propose a method which is possible to compute effectively cross-correlation using subfield in the process of practical computation of cross-correlation between nonlinear binary sequences.
