A Study on the Voltage Stability Enhancement in Radial Power System (방사상 전력계통의 전압안정도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a new approach using an Improved branch exchange (IBE) technique to maximize the voltage stability as well as loss minimization in radial power systems. A suitable voltage stability index (VSI) for optimal routing algorithm is developed using novel methods both a critical transmission path based on a voltage phasor approach and an equivalent impedance method. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm can automatically detect the critical transmission path to be reached to a critical load faced with voltage collapse due to additional real or reactive leading. To develop an effective optimization technique, we also have applied a branch exchange algorithm based on a newly derived index of loss change. The proposed IBE algorithm for VSI maximization can effectively search the optimal topological structures of distribution feeders by changing the open/closed states of the sectionalizing and tie switches. The proposed algorithm has been tested with the various radial power systems to show its favorable performance.

  • Testing maturity is critical to the system under development with lack of experience and skills in the acquisition of the weapon systems. Defects have a huge impact on important system operations. Sharing real-time information will lead to rapid command and mission capability in submarine. DDS(Data Distribution System) is a very important information sharing system and interface between various manufacturers or data formats. In this paper, we analyze data distribution characteristics of distributed data system to group data-specific systems and proposes a test case-generation method using path search of postorder and preorder which is a tree traversal in path testing method. The proposed method reduces 73.7.% testing resource compare to existing methods.

Cap truss and steel strut to resist progressive collapse in RC frame structures

  • In order to improve the efficiency of the Reinforced Concrete, RC, structures against progressive collapse, this paper proposes a procedure using alternate path and specific local resistance method to resist progressive collapse in intermediate RC frame structures. Cap truss consists of multiple trusses above a suddenly removed structural element to restrain excessive collapse and provide an alternate path. Steel strut is used as a brace to resist compressive axial forces. It is similar to knee braces in the geometry, responsible for enhancing ductility and preventing shear force localization around the column. In this paper, column removals in the critical position at the first story of two 5 and 10-story regular buildings strengthened using steel strut or cap truss are studied. Based on nonlinear dynamic analysis results, steel strut can only decrease vertical displacement due to sudden removal of the column at the first story about 23%. Cap truss can reduce the average vertical displacement and column axial force transferred to adjacent columns for the studied buildings about 56% and 61%, respectively due to sudden removal of the column. In other words, using cap truss, the axial force in the removed column transfers through an alternate path to adjacent columns to prevent local or general failure or to delay the progressive collapse occurrence.

  • Simplifier assumptions which are used in numerical studies of progressive collapse phenomenon in structures indicate inconsistency between the numerical and experimental full-scale results. Neglecting the effects of infill panels and two-dimensional simulation are some of these assumptions. In this study, an existing seismically code-designed steel building is analyzed with alternate path method (AP) to assess its resistance against progressive collapse. In the AP method, the critical columns be removed immediately and stability of the remaining structure is investigated. Analytical macro-model based on the equivalent strut approach is used to simulate the effective infill panels. The 3-dimentional nonlinear dynamic analysis results show that modeling the slabs and infill panels can increase catenary actions and stability of the structure to resist progressive collapse even if more than one column removed. Finally, a formula is proposed to determine potential of collapse of the structure based on the quantity and quality of the produced plastic hinges in the connections.

  • Cracks in mechanical joints is generally under mixed-mode and there is the critical inclined angle at which mode I stress intensity factor becomes maximum. In order to evaluate the fatigue life of cracks in mechanical joints, horizontal crack normal to the applied load and located on minimum cross section is major concern but critical inclined crack must also be considered. In this paper mixed-mode fatigue crack growth test is performed for horizontal crack and critical inclined crack in mechanical joints. Fatigue crack growth path is predicted by maximum tangential stress criterion using mode I and mode II stress intensity factors obtained from weight function method, and fatigue crack growth rates of horizontal and inclined crack are compared.

  • In this paper, constrained Remez exchange algorithm is proposed to reduce the critical path of an IIR filter. The proposed algorithm is based on Remez exchange algorithm and least squares method. By IIR filter design examples, it is shown that the proposed method can maximally increase speed by 20%.

A Pattern Comparison Algorithm for Pruning Fault Candidates (고장 대상 후보를 줄이기 위한 패턴 비교 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we present a pattern comparison algorithm for reducing fault candidate lists. The number of fault candidates determines the total fault simulation time. To decrease the total fault diagnosis time, the reduction of the number of fault candidates is essential. Critical path tracing determines fault candidate lists detected by a set of tests using a backtracing algorithm starting at the primary outputs of a circuit. The proposed algorithm reduces fault candidates comparing failing patterns with good patterns during critical path tracing process. As we reduce all fault candidates of the circuit to more accurately suspected fault candidates, we can greatly reduce fault simulation time. The proposed algorithm greatly increases simulation speed than that of a conventional backtracing method. The proposed algorithm is applicable to both combinational and sequential circuits. Experimental results on ISCAS#85 and ISCAS#89 benchmark circuits showed fault candidates are pruned and fault diagnosis time is also decreased in proportion to fault candidate decrease.

Real-time Path Replanning for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: Considering Environmental Changes using RRT* and LOSPO (무인 항공기를 위한 실시간 경로 재계획 기법: RRT*와 LOSPO를 활용한 환경 변화 고려)

  • Unmanned aerial vehicles are widely used in various fields, and real-time path replanning is a critical factor in enhancing the safety and efficiency of these devices. In this paper, we propose a real-time path replanning technique based on RRT* and LOSPO. The proposed technique first generates an initial path using the RRT* algorithm and then optimizes the path using LOSPO. Additionally, the optimized path can be converted into a trajectory that considers actual time and the dynamic limits of the aircraft. In this process, environmental changes and collision risks are detected in real-time, and the path is replanned as needed to maintain safe operation. This method has been verified through simulation-based experiments. The results of this paper make a significant contribution to the research on real-time path replanning for UAVs, and by applying this technique to various situations, the safety and efficiency of UAVs can be improved.

A complete S-shape feed rate scheduling approach for NURBS interpolator

  • This paper presents a complete S-shape feed rate scheduling approach (CSFA) with confined jerk, acceleration and command feed rate for parametric tool path. For a Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) tool path, the critical points of the tool path where the radius of curvature reaches extreme values are found firstly. Then, the NURBS curve is split into several NURBS sub-curves or blocks by the critical points. A bidirectional scanning strategy with the limitations of chord error, normal/tangential acceleration/jerk and command feed rate is employed to make the feed rate at the junctions between different NURBS blocks continuous. To improve the efficiency of the feed rate scheduling, the NURBS block is classified into three types: short block, medium block and long block. The feed rate profile corresponding to each NURBS block is generated according to the start/end feed rates and the arc length of the block and the limitations of tangential acceleration/jerk. In addition, two compensation strategies are proposed to make the feed rate more continuous and the arc increment more precise. Once the feed rate profile is determined, a second-order Taylor's expansion interpolation method is applied to generate the position commands. Finally, experiments with two free-form NURBS curves are conducted to verify the applicability and accuracy of the proposed method.

A Study on the Stability Problems of the Latticed Domes (래티스돔의 안정문제에 관한 연구)

  • The primary objective of this paper is to grasp many characteristics of buckling behavior of latticed spherical domes under various conditions. The Arc-Length Method proposed by E.Riks is used for the computation and evaluation of geometrically nonlinear fundamental equilibrium paths and bifurcation points. And the direction of the path after the bifurcation point is decided by means of Hosono's concept. Three different nonlinear stiffness matrices of the Slope-Deflection Method are derived for the system with rigid nodes and results of the numerical analysis are examined in regard in geometrical parameters such as slenderness ratio, half-open angle, boundary conditions, and various loading types. But in case of analytical model 2 (rigid node), the post-buckling path could not be surveyed because of Newton-Raphson iteration process being diversed on the critical point since many eigenvalues become zero simultaneously.
