The main objective of this study is to present a new approach to obtain moment inequalities for the new better than renewal used (NBRU) class of life distributions. In order to achieve our main objective, the moment inequalities for NBRU class of life distribution using the new approach has been derived and then a new test for testing exponentiality against NBRU class based on these inequalities has been constructed. Then we calculate the Pitman asymptotic efficiency for the proposed test using some alternative distributions and comparing it with the other tests. Moreover, we make a comparison between Pittman asymptotic efficiencies (PAE's) and PAE's of some other tests. A simulation study is conducted to calculate the upper critical values and the power estimate of the proposed test for some common alternatives. Finally, we apply the suggested test to some real data.

This paper presents the cyclic seismic performance of slip-critically designed, high-strength bolted-beam splice in steel moment frame. Before the moment connection reaching its plastic strength, unexpected premature slippage occurred at the slip-critically designed beam splice during the test. The experimentally observed frictional coefficients were as low as about 50% to 60% of nominal (code) value. Nevertheless, the bearing type behavior mobilized after the slippage transferred the increasing cyclic loads successfully, i.e., the consequence of slippage into bearing was not catastrophic to the connection behavior. The test result seems to indicate that the traditional beam splice design basing upon (bolt-hole deducted) effective flange area criterion may not be sufficient in developing the plastic strength of moment connections under severe earthquake loading. New procedure for achieving slip-critical beam splice design is proposed based on capacity design concept.

Our goal in this paper is to establish inequalities for the moments of new better than used in the moment generating function class ($NBU_{mgf}$). Using these inequalities we propose a new test for exponentiality versus $NBU_{mgf}$ class. Pitman's asymptotic relative efficiency, power and critical values of this test are calculated to assess the performance of the test. We proposed also a new test for exponentiality versus $NBU_{mgf}$ in the right censored data. Sets of real data are used as an example to elucidate the use of the proposed test for practical problems.

Harmonic vibration characteristics for the general rotor model having a breathing crack are analyzed. Analyses are performed at the half critical speed ranges. The vibration characteristics are explained by using the additional slope and bending moment at the crack position and the influence coefficient showing the structural dynamic characteristics of the rotor. With the low crack depth the magnitude of the additional slope is kept constant even at the speed range at which the orbit magnitude is very sensitive to the rotational speed change. At this speed range the vibration is affected by the influence coefficient only. As the dynamic bending moment exceeds the static bending moment with the increase of crack depth. the additional slope affects the vibration amplitude of cracked rotor and the crack propagation rate increases.
Purpose - This research identifies the meaning of the core capability level of Car Master and the reason why its service at the Moment of Truth should be demonstrated through empirical cases. It can be seen that this study differs from existing research because it proposes that the recognized core capability level to achieve customer satisfaction should focus on the mediating effect of Moment of Truth quality. This paper examines the effect of Car Master's recognized core capability level on customer satisfaction by using the variables mentioned above. Moreover, this study uses regression analysis to verify that the mediating effect of Moment of Truth quality on Car Master's capability level achieves customer satisfaction. Research design, data, and methodology - First, we present evidence that could apply to Car Master's recognized core capability level by detailing the relationship between customer satisfaction and a structuring factor for Car Master's core capability level. Our proposed research model observes the relationship between the structuring factor of core capability and customer satisfaction. Second, we had an opportunity to define how the core capability and Moment of Truth quality affect customer satisfaction by performing empirical analysis on the partial mediating effect of Moment of Truth quality at a recognized core capability level and Moment of Truth quality affecting customer satisfaction. Results - First, the results indicate that Car Master's recognized core capability level (product professionalism, marketing skill, and reliability) positively affects customer satisfaction. Second, the results show that an ability to listen and a sense of dedication positively affect customer satisfaction, and are among the Moment of Truth quality factors; but performance capability, which is one of the Moment of Truth quality factors, does not positively affect customer satisfaction. These results clearly differ from prior studies focused on Moment of Truth quality and consumer satisfaction. Third, the results show that Moment of Truth quality has a partial mediating effect in terms of the impact of Car Master's recognized core capability level in achieving consumer satisfaction. Conclusions - This research indicates that the company will be able to expand if they investigate and show an interest in more training and education for Car Master. The study verified that outstanding Car Masters show differentiated performance on customer satisfaction at the Moment of Truth in various instances. Thus, we believe that this is the time for a discussion on systematic and empirically recognized core capability levels and the Moment of Truth quality. The study on Car Master's recognized core capability level offers suitable solutions for Car Masters to respond to customers at the Moment of Truth. Further, this study emphasizes the importance of service as a critical factor having a direct relationship with the company's success and failure and contributing to building trust with the customer. Thus, an investment in continuous education and training for Car Master will help the growth of the business.
Unlike field-welded moment frames damaged during the Northridge earthquake, a column-tree moment frame has a tool to control and reduce its seismic behavior. The tool is the girder splice. Girder splices could be designed to be sufficiently ductile and to have a prescribed bending moment capacity. In such a design, during earthquakes, the girder splices would act as ductile "fuses" and limit the magnitude of forces including the bending moment that could be developed in the frame. In Korea, most moment frames arc composed of a column-tree moment frame. Therefore, the elasto-plastic behavior of steel beams with high strength bolted friction splice should be clarified. Furthermore, structural capacities, including energy absorption capacity, must be quantitatively found. This paper discusses an experimental study to clarify elasto-plastic behavior of steel beams with high strength bolted friction splices. A total of 5 specimens were tested. A specimen was fabricated to have a beam splice designed by a full strength method. Other specimens were fabricated to have beam splices with 75%, 50% and 0% capacities compared with the specimen.
The stochastic stability control of the parameter-excited vibration of an inclined stay cable with multiple modes coupling under random and periodic combined support disturbances is studied by using the direct eigenvalue analysis approach based on the response moment stability, Floquet theorem, Fourier series and matrix eigenvalue analysis. The differential equation with time-varying parameters for the transverse vibration of the inclined cable with control under random and deterministic support disturbances is derived and converted into the randomly and deterministically parameter-excited multi-degree-of-freedom vibration equations. As the stochastic stability of the parameter-excited vibration is mainly determined by the characteristics of perturbation moment, the differential equation with only deterministic parameters for the perturbation second moment is derived based on the $It{\hat{o}}$ stochastic differential rule. The stochastically and deterministically parameter-excited vibration stability is then determined by the deterministic parameter-varying response moment stability. Based on the Floquet theorem, expanding the periodic parameters of the perturbation moment equation and the periodic component of the characteristic perturbation moment expression into the Fourier series yields the eigenvalue equation which determines the perturbation moment behavior. Thus the stochastic stability of the parameter-excited cable vibration under the random and periodic combined support disturbances is determined directly by the matrix eigenvalues. The direct eigenvalue analysis approach is applicable to the stochastic stability of the control cable with multiple modes coupling under various periodic and/or random support disturbances. Numerical results illustrate that the multiple cable modes need to be considered for the stochastic stability of the parameter-excited cable vibration under the random and periodic support disturbances, and the increase of the control damping rather than control stiffness can greatly enhance the stochastic stability of the parameter-excited cable vibration including the frequency width increase of the periodic disturbance and the critical value increase of the random disturbance amplitude.
A procedure for critical buckling moment of a tapered beam is proposed with the application of potential energy calculations using Ritz method. Respective solution allows to obtain critical moments initiating lateral buckling of the simply supported, modestly tapered steel I-beams. In particular, lateral-torsional buckling of beams with simultaneously tapered flanges and the web are considered. Detailed, numerical, parametric analyses are carried out. Typical engineering, uniformly distributed design loads are considered for three cases of the load, applied to the top flange, shear centre, as well as to the bottom flange. In addition simply supported beam under gradient moments is investigated. The parametric analysis of simultaneously tapered beam flanges and the web, demonstrates that tapering of flanges influences much more the critical moments than tapering of the web.
A finite element model of geared rotor system with flexible bearings were used to simulate the critical speeds and to investigate the effects of bearing coefficients on the dynamic behaviors of the systems. The finite element model includes the effects of tooth mesh stiffness, gyroscopic moment, rotary inertia, shear, and torque of the shaft. The gear mesh was modelled as a pair of rigid disks connected by a spring of time varying stiffness. The time varying mesh stiffness results in the abrupt change of the critical speeds of spur geared systems. As the bearing stiffness increases, critical speeds increase rapidly in case of stiff shafts, compared with flexible shafts.

An analysis is presented for the vibration and stability of Beck's column carring a tip mass at its free and subjected there to a follower compressive force by using variational approach. The influence of transverse shear deformation and rotatory inertial of the mass of the column upon the critical flutter load and frequency is considered, and Timoshenko's shear coefficient K' is calculated by Cowper's formulae. It is, moreover, worth noticing that the influence of inertial moment of tip mass upon the flutter load and frequency is investigated. The centroid of a tip mass is offset from the free end of the beam and located along its extended axis of the two cases, one of which has a tip mass increasing as .xi., the tip mass offset parameter, is augmented, the other has a tip mass constant but the inertial moment is variable according to a magnitude of .eta., the tip mass offset parament. This study reveals that the effects of inertial moment of a tip mass and larger value of P are specially remarkable even a tip mass is a same.
